I'm supposed to put the Christmas tree up today but I'm so depressed I don't ever want to. Christmas usually makes me so happy and part of me wants to just say "fuck life" and put it up and not give a damn about how I feel or what others think but it's just so strong... I just can't! My dad has no job right now, my mom only works part-time, college bills are piling up, we can barely afford to live right now, my mom hates seeing the tree up early because she's not a Christmas freak like

 I am, and I just in general hate myself because I suck and have been suicidal for several months now. I don’t know what to do! I’m so torn. Do I put up that small potential bit of happiness left in my life, or just not bother? I really don’t want to but I do… ughh! Putting that tree up will probably make my parents think that I don’t care about our struggles right now just “bring on the holiday cheer!” or something like that. Am I selfish?? Help. :”( - ChristmasFear

You don’t have to put up the Christmas tree if you don’t want to, or you could always wait to do it until you feel a bit better. If this is something you generally enjoy doing, you probably shouldn’t force yourself to do it. That could just ruin the holiday for you and that wouldn’t be good, considering how much you usually love it. Don’t worry about what your parents think of whatever you decide to do. Just worry about yourself right now.

Have you told anybody about your suicidal thoughts? Being suicidal doesn’t mean you’re a bad person; it means you’re struggling, and that’s okay. You just shouldn’t have to deal with all of this alone, especially with what’s going on with your parents.

Stay strong! I hope you can get your usual feelings towards Christmas back so you can enjoy the holidays. :)
