Halt and Catch Fire premiered on AMC on 1 June 2014.

Created by Christopher Cantwell and Christopher Rogers, they sold the script for their pilot in 2011 and brought in Melissa Bernstein and Mark Johnson to produce (who had been working on Breaking Bad), but AMC would not commit to the series until July 2013.

The premiere was only viewed by 1.2 million people, making it the least watched premiere in AMC history, and viewership decreased after that, despite receiving the "Most Exciting New Series" award from the Critics' Choice Television Awards. Halt and Catch Fire would run for 40 episodes over 4 seasons.

It has been cited as one of the best TV series of the 2010s, and one of the best of the 21st century. Rolling Stone placed it at 55 of the "Greatest TV Shows of All Time."
