Poster at Practice debuts June 10, 2017 with “Write: Kevin”, an installation by Christopher Clary.
Poster is an evolving series of mural-sized posters installed at Practice in the thin boundary between where the gallery and the entrance area of the space co-exist. Does context matter? Is Poster valued less if placed in storage?
Poster will feature works by artists who maintain an active publishing practice both online and in printed form. What are the boundaries of publishing today?
Poster was set to launch at Practice in June as counter-programming to an exhibition in the main gallery space. The show in the main gallery was cancelled at the last minute by an over-committed curator. A void was created, waiting to be filled. Perhaps not?
The main gallery space will remain empty. Poster can stand alone.
For the first iteration of Poster, Christopher Clary presents "Write: Kevin." There are men in Clary’s pornography collection that consume him and Kevin has been an obsession for decades. He’s remade Kevin’s image into videos, photographs, prints, installations, and a zip file of everything he did and downloaded in his search for the real Kevin. It ended when Clary learned he was dead. Kevin lives on not just in this poster that recaptures his classified from 1994, but Clary wants you to “Write: Kevin.” Please send an erotic letter to his New Orleans address and a copy to Practice.
Christopher Clary is an artist and author. His most recent book “FkN JPGs on eBay”, was published by TROLL THREAD.
