Christopher (2020) - Always liked the look of Darkhawk, but I don't recall ever picking up any of his books. Still, it was fun exercise trying to draw the character ☺ #ChristopherPowell #Darkhawk #NewWarriors #MarvelComics #Marvel #Comics #MCU #sketch #inkdrawing #JimCheung https://www.instagram.com/p/CGksurWDRYS/?igshid=1ff2kn18fc2v
So as I miss Chris Powell and the gang, I try to make a draw of the The Freshman suite...This is how I imagined it would be based on the few images of the game itself😃

Chapter Five: Bye Bye Baby
Chris stares at the photos she handed him in complete disbelief. He sits down shaking his head - he knows Becca is capable of many things but he never thought she could stoop so low.
“Are you seriously threatening to share a sex tape we made in my freshman year?”, he lays the photos on the table. “You would expose yourself... You would allow everyone to see you having sex with me just to destroy any chance I have of a happy relationship? Or what is it that your twisted mind wants from me?”, he pinches the bridge of his nose, wondering what is going on. He can’t believe he spent so many years with this woman and had no idea of what she was really capable of.
Becca smiles, “Oh Chris, do you think I’m this naive?”, she leans over the table, brushing her hand over his strong arms. “I was just trying to get your attention, silly! But now that I have you all to myself...”, before she ends her sentence Chris stops her.
He takes her hand off him, “You don’t own any part of me, Becca. Whatever you think you will accomplish with this talk, it’s not going to be us getting back together! This is final”, his voice is stern.
Becca stares at Chris, she can barely recognize his self-confidence, “Chris, what is going on?”
“I hate your mind games. I hate that I needed so many years to break free from you... I’m disgusted”, he shakes his head, “Tell me what do you want, is it money?”
She laughs, “Money? Yeah, you stopped paying my bills... but no, I am not trying to blackmail you for money. Why should I do that? You will give me it anyway...”
“You are delusional! I think you should go see a doctor... I’m done with you, Becca. If you have anything to tell me I advise you to contact my lawyer otherwise I will call the police”, he gets up and starts making his way to the door.
“I’m pregnant”, she says raising her voice, “And yes, I’m sure... it’s yours!”
Chris turns around slowly, feeling as if he had been punched in the gut, “What are you talking about? The last time we had sex was like almost three months ago... and I always used protection”
“I don’t need to explain to you how these things work, Chris. You are going to be a father, aren’t you happy about it? We could stop this discussion and go home... you and me. I’ll take care of you, baby, I’ll take care of you real good”, she walks up to him, wrapping her arms around him.
He closes his eyes, pushing her gently away from him, “If you are pregnant and in case it’s mine, I will take care of my baby but it doesn’t mean that we will get back together, Becca”, he pauses, taking a deep breath, “We are done! And don’t you go to my house... I changed the locks!”, he turns around and leaves but before he walks through the door, she says:
“It’s not over until I say so!”, she yells.
——————
An hour later...
The door bell rings and Laura hears urgent knocks on her front door. It’s not so late but she is not waiting any visitors. She doesn’t know what just happened or how Becca found them but she had to leave. She felt as if she was intruding, she felt like the other woman and this is not what she wants in a new relationship.
She gets up from the couch and walks to the door. Looking through the peephole she sees Chris and taking a deep breath, she opens the door.
“What are you doing here?”, she asks confused, “I thought you were with Becca”.
Chris steps towards her, “Can I come in?”, the tone in his voice is almost like begging.
“Are you sure Becca didn’t follow you? I don’t want more drama tonight, especially not in my home!”, she says nervously.
Chris nods, “Yeah, I don’t know how she found us but I parked my car on the main road and left my phone in there, just in case”. Laura steps to the side letting him in. He reaches for her hand and they walk to the living room.
“Would you like a drink?”, she asks as he sits down on the couch.
“Do you have Scotch?”, he sigh and she nods, “Bring the bottle, we will need it!”.
Laura giggles, “I have a feeling we really will. But why don’t we order something to eat first? You must be starving... I know I am”.
“Is pizza okay?”, he asks and she nods, “You take care of the drinks and I will get us something to eat”, he gets up, making a call and heads to the door. Thirty minutes later he is home with food from the restaurant around the corner. They sit down on the table and enjoy their food, having some moments of peace before Chris tell her about his talk with Becca.
After cleaning the dishes together, they head to the living room. Laura sits next to Chris and grabs his hand, giving him a squeeze, “So, what is it you wanna talk about?”
“Laura... before I tell you what I got to say, I want you to know one thing”, he takes a deep breath, “I really like you and I like the person I am when I am with you”
She nods, looking at him nervously, “Chris, you are scaring me... what is going on?”. He looks into her eyes and explains what happened at the restaurant after she left. He told her about the sex tape, the money, her pregnancy.
“I don’t wanna hide anything from you, beautiful. I don’t wanna have anything between us...”, he sees in her eyes how shocked she is, “Please, say something”.
Laura stands up, pacing in front of him, “A baby?!”, she stops in front of him, “Are you sure you are completely done with her? A baby... a baby is a serious thing, Chris. I don’t want to get invested in this if there is any chance of you two getting back together”.
Chris stands up, walking up to her and wrapping his arms around her, “I would never ever, not in a million years, get back with Becca. I know... if she is pregnant and if its mine, I know it won’t be easy on you, on us to have this mad woman in our lives but I want to reassure you that she is my past and I really want to have a future with you, Laura. I really do”. She raises her head to look at him and he places a kiss on her lips, gently caressing her cheeks. “I would like for us to spend a couple of days in Napa, just you and me. Get out of all of this, what do you say?”
She raises herself on tiptoes and look deep into his eyes, “I’d like that... but I really want you to think about what I told you first. I don’t have a problem with you having a child. But I really want you to think about everything...”
“I don’t need to”, he says and sighs, “But okay... I’ll do this for you!”.
Laura takes his hand and he follows her upstairs, “I hope you don’t mind to take the spare room for tonight?!”. She looks at him and smiles.
“I don’t mind waiting for you... I know you are worth it”
——————
Sunday afternoon...
Chris looks over to Laura and smiles.
“Keep your eyes on the road, Chris! If I have to repeat it one more time, I swear I will drive to Napa myself!”, she says, giggling.
Chris lets out a laugh, doing as she said, “I had fun at your friends’s engagement brunch but I am so looking forward to spend these days alone with you”.
Laura smiles laying her hand on his thigh, “Have you thought about our talk?”
“I did”, Chris turns into a dirty road, bringing the car to a stop. He looks deep into her eyes, cupping her cheeks, “I am here with you, am I not? I’m not looking back, I am looking at you. You are what I want”, he smiles, closing the distance between them - Chris feels her breath getting closer and closer. As if time had stopped, he loses himself in her green eyes. Her warm lips touch his, hungry for the taste of him. His tongue enters her mouth, slowly moving, caressing hers. His hand runs through her hair, resting on the back of her neck, deepening the kiss. She nibbles on his bottom lip before pulling away.
She smiles and says, still with her eyes closed, “It’s official...You are the best kisser!”, she opens her eyes and brushes her fingers along his jawline.
“Only because you taste so good...”, he turns on the car and they continue on their way to a winery hotel. When they arrive there, Chris takes her hand and they go to the reception, “Good afternoon, I have a reservation under the name of Christopher Powell”.
The young man seems to recognize Chris and smiles friendly, “Good afternoon, sir”. He check on the computer, “I see you booked two rooms for two nights, is it correct?”
“Yes, it is”, Chris puts his arm around Laura’s waist.
“Actually”, she says, “We are taking one room only”, she glances at Chris and smiles.
The young man watches the glances between them and blushes, “Very well... you have the honeymoon suite”.
The room is large and in rustic Mediterranean style interior. There is an ample bed in the centre of the room with white bedding. The walls are beige and there are many wooden details. The is a full length mirror on the wall left to the bed. There is a seating area closer to the window and a bar cart.
As Chris walks in, he heads to the bar, “Would you like something to drink, beautiful?”, he says looking at the wine on display, “What about a glass of white wine?”, he glances back to see Laura in front of the mirror. He can feel the electricity in the room growing with excitement. Laura reaches behind her back and pull down the zip, wiggling out of the tight red dress. It slides down her legs and she steps out of it. Chris holds his breath as he sees her beautiful body for the first time. She reaches behind her back to unfasten her bra and he says, “Let me help with that...”. He walks behind her, easing it off her shoulders and breasts. She turns around to face him, “God, you are beautiful”. He grasp her panties by their waist and slide them down to the ankles, letting it fall. He reaches down and began massaging between her legs, her hidden lips between his thumb and middle finger. She places her hands on his shoulders and begins to softly moan. Chris feels the arousal taking over him by the feeling of her moisture in his hand. “Oh baby, I want you so bad...”, he says.
“Then take me...”, she whispers and he feels his manhood poke against his pants. Chris picks her up and takes her to bed before hastily undressing. He gets on top of her, kissing her lips hungrily. He works his way down, kissing each inch of her body, making it his as if it was a new conquered continent. He gently spread her legs to reveal her swollen wet folds, lowering his mouth to it - she yells his name when she feels his tongue exploring every tiny space of her sex. “Chris... I can’t... I... don’t want to wait anymore!”, she moans in between.
Chris smiles, heading up again, kissing her breasts, sucking on her nipples before kissing his way upwards. He reaches her lips, watching her as he slowly buries his 9 inches into her. For the first time he heard her cursing and he begins to pumping into her. It never felt this good with anyone else, he thinks. He buries his head on the crook of her neck and groans loudly, biting it gently. “This is so fucking good, baby”, he enjoys the sounds of her moans as the pace of his thrust increases - she presses her hips against him. Her walls begin contracting against his massive member and she turns her head to the side, moaning and screaming into a pillow. He pumps faster and deeper into her for several minutes until he finds his release. Chris falls to her side, smiling like a fool while trying to catch his breath. “Fuck... I barely tasted you and I’m already addicted”, he turns his head to her and she smiles.
“Good because I want so much more of you...”, she gets closer to him laying her head on his muscular chest, still feeling the aftershocks of her orgasm. Suddenly Chris’ phone vibrates. he reaches for it on the nightstand and sees a text:
“Sorry to disturb your romantic trip. We have an appointment tomorrow. Don’t you wanna hear your baby’s heartbeat? x, Becca”

Chapter one: Perfect Strangers
Chris runs through the terminal on the way to his gate. He wasn’t sure about taking this flight; he waited until the last minute trying to decide what to do — everything is working out so well in his life but then there is Becca. He never meant their relationship to be serious, he never meant it to last but somehow, after spending four years of college together it just made sense to stay. Thoughts are running through his head, when he hears:
„This is the final boarding call for passenger Christopher Powell on the flight to New York. Please proceed to gate 5 immediately. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for Christopher Powell. Thank you“
Breathless he arrives at the gate and boards the airplane. A flight attendant brings him to his seat in the business class. He looks at the beautiful petit brunette sitting in the window seat. After storing his carry-on in the overhead compartment, he tries to get her attention:
„Miss?!“, he looks at her writing something in a notebook, „Excuse me, miss?!“, but there is no reaction. He realizes that she has her earplugs on and lightly taps her on the shoulder. She looks at him startled, taking her earplugs off. „I’m sorry. Can I help you with your bag?“, Chris looks at the black handbag that is laying on his seat and smiles friendly.
„Oh… oh my gosh, I am so sorry! Yes, thank you so much, just let me get my laptop first… here you go“, she smiles and Chris looks at her for a moment before taking her bag. Her smiles has a warmth that he can’t quite grasp — it’s kind, gentle and captivating.
After closing the overhead compartment, he sits down and looks at her again, „I’m Chris, Chris Powell“.
„Laura Davis, nice to meet you“, Laura stares at him for a moment with a thoughtful look.
„Is something wrong?“, Chris asks.
„No… but why do you look so familiar…“, she shakes her head lightly, „Sorry, I feel like I’ve seen you before“.
Chris chuckles, „Maybe from the papers?! I play football for the Nightingales“.
Laura smiles and looks through the window for a second, „Nope, that’s not it. I wouldn’t know, I am not a fan of football. Wait a minute… Powell, football… did you go to Hartfeld?“.
Chris lets out a laugh, „Yes, are you stalking me?!“.
„Oh please, you wish!“, she laughs, „No, I went to Hartfeld too!“
„Now that you mention, I think I’ve heard the name Laura Davis somewhere!“, he stares at her. „What?! Of course… the valedictorian. Didn’t you write a book with a professor? I didn’t read it but I remember people talking about it!“.
„Yes, that’s me! For the book I tried to join the Kappa Phi Sigma… weren’t you with Becca for a while?“, she smiles reminiscing about the time with professor Vasquez.
Chris’ face falls by the mention of her name, „Yeah, we are still together…“, he looks down to his hands for a moment but quickly shakes the sad feeling away, „So, are you still writing?“
„Yeah, I’m working on my second book. Actually, I’m still putting my thoughts together, trying to get some inspiration“, she turns to the window, realizing the plane took off already.
„So, what is your new book about?“, Chris looks at her curios.
„Ah… I don’t know yet but it’s going to be a romance book with some drama and hopefully some adventures!“, she giggles. „I am actually flying for a meeting with my literary agent. And what are you doing in New York?“
Chris scratches the back of his head, something he always does when he gets nervous, „I’m going to have a talk with Becca…“, he presses his lips together. „Tell me, Laura, you who knows so much about romance…“, he pauses.
„Hey, I have never claimed I would, Mr. Powell!“, she smiles.
„Well, you have to...you write about it! So... When does your main character know he or she is in love?“, he chuckles, „Kinda of a philosophical question, isn’t it?“
„Oh, you wanna go there? Alright… Tough question. I think it’s when they feel this unconditional feeling overcoming them and suddenly you accept that the other person has imperfections without thinking less of them; when they feel deeply committed to this other human being even though he or she may not feel the same; when they have many reasons to go but they choose to stay because a life without this person is no life at all“, Laura looks at Chris, watching her attentively and she giggles. „I don’t know… love is something you feel. When you know, you know, right?“.
Chris looks at her confused but smiling, „Yeah, I guess you are right…“. He leans his head against the headrest, thinking about her words.
Laura opens her laptop and puts her earplugs on. She transfers the notes on her note book to her computer, adding a few other. Coyly she looks at Chris, who has his eyes closed and she wonders what his curiosity about falling in love says about him. She looks through the window thinking about it.
Chris opens his eyes and looks at Laura, thinking about what she said. ‚What if she is right? This is definitely not what I feel for Becca. Things with Becca are physical… I like to be around her but I can’t give myself completely to her’, he thinks.
He taps her on the shoulder again and she takes her earplugs off, „Have you ever?“, he says.
„Well, you will have to give me more information than that!“, she smiles.
He chuckles, „Sorry… have you ever loved somebody?“, he closes his eyes shortly, „Is it too personal? Maybe you should just forget I asked you that…“, he shakes his head lightly.
Laura senses he is conflicted and takes his hand, giving him a reassuring squeeze, „No, it is okay!“, she sighs, „I don’t think I have, Chris. I got out of a relationship a few months ago because I wasn’t sure and if you are not sure about it, then it can’t be. I couldn’t give him what he wanted… it hurts because I lost a good friend but he deserves someone who can love him truly“. Chris frowns. „Do you mind if I asked you why you have so many questions about love?“
„It’s Becca… she wants to settle down. We’ve been six years together and I understand where she is coming from. But I don’t know… I see my friends getting married, building families and I also want that. I love my job, things are working out for me so it makes sense to settle down but I don’t know...“, he leans forward and rests his head on his hands, „I’m sorry… you barely know me and you already know I’m a mess!“.
Laura puts a hand on Chris’ shoulder, „Don’t worry about it. I can’t tell you what to do but I think you already know what you want and what you don’t“. Chris looks at her and she smiles, „Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing. But it is all in your hands“. Chris smiles at her and she says, „Come on, let me give you a hug“. Chris wraps his arms around her and closes his eyes. He takes in her scent and for the first time in the last 24 hours he feels some peace. „Are you feeling better?“, she says letting him go.
„Yes, thank you…“, he looks deep into her big green eyes and notices it has a deepness to it… ‚She is so beautiful and I am here whining‘, he thinks.
„Good, I hope you get it all sorted out soon, Chris“, she sighs, „Now, I gotta finish up a few things but whenever you feel like talking… just let me know“, she smiles.
Chris chuckles, „You are so kind and I am just… well, thank you!“.
---------
After a long flight from California to New York, Chris helps Laura with her carry-on and they leave the plane. Chatting away about their experiences in Hartfeld, realizing they have been to the same places, sometimes hang out with the same crowd but they never met.
As they walk out of the airport, Chris stops in front of a black limo, „I have a driver. Can I give you a ride to Manhattan?“
„Thank you but my agent is picking me up“, she smiles. „It was nice meeting you!“.
Chris gives her a hug, „It was nice meeting you too, Laura“. He reaches in his pocket and hands her a card, „Please, called me if you need anything… or even if you don’t… we can grab a drink, if you want or just talk“. Laura giggles at him nervously talking.
„Alright… I’d like that!“, she reaches in her bag and gives him her card in return. „Whenever you need someone to talk to…“. He looks deep into her eyes for a moment, feeling thankful.
„Sorry, I gotta…“, he points to the driver waiting.

Chapter Four: One Way Or Another
Laura jumps out of her bed and walks to the kitchen, holding her phone in front of her and staring at the screen. She turns on the coffee machine before walking to the front door to pick up the papers. It feels like a bad dream but it is reality... when she closes the door, she goes through the newspaper, finding the headline Chris sent her a few minutes ago.
“No, no, no, no... This can’t be”, she shakes her head, feeling violated in her privacy. Laura walks back to the kitchen and sits down at the table staring at the photo - she knew Chris was a football player but she could never imagine people would be this interested in his love life. Suddenly she hears the sound of her phone ringing and sees Chris’ name on the display.
“Hey... I just saw it... I have the paper in front of me. This is crazy”, she tries to breath deeply.
Chris hears in her voice that she is not doing good, “Oh Laura, I’m so sorry”, he stops for a moment, shaking his head in disbelieve. ‘This just started, it can’t end like this’, he thinks. “I’m on my way to you. I got us breakfast and I don’t want to leave you alone with your thoughts right now...”.
“Okay, Chris. I’m waiting for you”, she sighs.
“See you in 5″, he says.
Laura starts pacing, thousand things going through her head. She has worked in journalism and she is a writer that loves to read reports on her books but this is different, this is her private life, “I hope you get here soon because I’m starting to freak out...”, she hangs up.
She stands up and takes two mugs from the cupboard before heading outside to wait for him. It doesn’t take too long and she sees his car driving up the drive way. He looks at her and smiles weakly, unsure of how she was going to react to what was happening. Taking a brown paper bag from the back seat, he gets out of the car and heads to the front door, “Laura...”, he wraps his arms protectively around her, pulling her closer to him. “Let’s get inside”, he says and Laura nods, leading the way to the kitchen. Chris puts the bag on the table, “I didn’t know what you like so I got bagels, muffins, croissants...”
“You didn’t have to come here with breakfast, Chris”, she turns around to face him. He walks up to her, taking her hands in his, “It’s just... I don’t understand. Does this always happen to you?”
Chris looks at her and says, “I should have thought about it but I didn’t. Becca made a media circus out of our relationship but I thought everything would come back to normal... I haven’t been out with her or anyone else in mouths... I just...”
“This isn’t your fault, Chris. It’s not only me on that photo, it is you too”, he embraces her and she puts her hands on his chest. Laura looks up at him and he lowers his head to place a gentle kiss on her lips. “Is this always going to be like this? I don’t know... This is not the kind of life I've planned for myself...”
He rests his forehead on hers, “And I love this about you because I don’t want this kind of life either, all I want is for us to enjoy the time we spend together”. He closes his eyes, “I don’t want this to happen but I’ll understand if you think it’s best for you to...”, before he finishes his thoughts she says:
“Don’t!”, she shakes her head and he opens his eyes, “Don’t say that! I’m not going anywhere because of a photo on the paper. I just don’t want people following me on the streets because I’m seeing you”.
Chris smiles relieved, “Good, because I don’t wanna stop seeing you either”. He brushes a strand of hair off her face, “I’ll see what I can do to protect you, to protect us from this mess. But just for now, what do you say? Can we just focus on breakfast? I hope you are hungry!?”
“Starving!”, she says smiling. She turns around and takes the mugs with freshly brewed coffee, putting it on the table. “So, do you have plans for the weekend?”
Chris hands her a bagel, “Yeah, I’d like for us to go out on a date. A nice restaurant in a very private setting...”
“I like the Idea of a very private setting”, she giggles. “I am asking because I gotta fly to San Francisco on Sunday, it’s just for the day but maybe you would like to come with me?”
Chris reaches out for her hand and brushes his thumb on her knuckles, “Yes, of course! I haven’t been there in a while but I love the city. So what are we doing there?”
“A friend of mine is having an engagement brunch. I mean, you don’t have to come if you don’t want to but I would like to have you there”, she smiles.
“I’d love that. You met my friends already and I’d love to meet yours. I could pick you up on Sunday if you want”, he grabs a bagel from the paper bag. “I don’t live too far from here so we could drive to the airport together”.
Laura looks at him, “I was actually hoping you would want to spend the night...”
Chris looks at her blushing, “Hmm, erm, yeah... this works too. Hmm, I mean, if it’s no inconvenience or anything...”. Chris looks deep into her green eyes, smiling and taking a deep breath, “Sorry, you caught me off guard... of course, I’d love to!”.
“Good”, she stands up and walks up to him to sit on his lap. “Listen, even though I hate that there are photos of us around the city, I really had fun with you and your friends”.
Chris puts his arm around her waist, “I also had a great time with you. I woke up this morning with my phone blowing up and I was so scared of what could happen. I wasn’t sure how you would react”. He pulls her closer, “I don’t wanna mess this up”, he rests his head on her chest and enjoys this moment of peace, listening to her heartbeat.
——————
On that Saturday night, Chris picked up Laura and drove with her to a nice restaurant in Venice Beach. He reserved the balcony to the inner courtyard only for the two of them, just to make sure nobody would take any photos. The table was decorated for a romantic dinner, there were flowers, candles and a champagne bottle waiting for them.
Laura looks at Chris and smiles, “Wow... was all this your idea?”
“I just wanted to make this night special for you. You deserve this and so much more”, he reaches out for her hand, “I like the person I am when I am with you, Laura. Everything feels so different, in a good way. You make me smile like a fool, you are so understanding and you care, you even listen to my boring stories!”
Laura laughs, “Stop, your stories aren’t boring! I’m just still trying to figure out how football works... maybe we could watch a few games together before football season starts and you could give me a crash course!”
“This is what I am talking... you are perfect!”, he stands up to kiss her quickly, “Supportive, kind and the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen”. She blushes, smiling coyly. They both hear foot steps and start laughing. Soon the waiter appear to collect their orders.
Watching him leave, Laura says, “Are you excited for San Francisco? We could do something after the brunch”
Chris smiles widely, “I am but to be honest, I am far more excited about tonight...”
“Yeah? What is happening tonight, Christopher?”, a familiar voice says from the direction of the door.
Chris and Laura turns their head to see Becca, staring at them. Laura looks away, feeling very uncomfortable with the situation.
“What are you doing here? Did you follow me? Did you put a tracker on my fucking car?”, Chris says unsettled.
“Wrong questions, Chris. The right question is what is she doing here. Hi, Laura”, she turns her head to face her, “I knew I recognized you from somewhere the moment I saw that photo on the papers!”.
Laura looks at Chris, “I am leaving... talk tomorrow!”
“No, no... Becca is leaving, you are staying”, his eyes pleading and Laura sits back down, “Becca, there is nothing for us to talk about, not now or not ever. You should go!”
“You know what is funny, Chris. You fly out to New York to break up with me because I am ‘toxic’ and you don’t love me but I wasn’t that bad when you needed a fuck, was I?”, she crosses her arms in front of her.
Laura picks up her bag and stands up, “I have to go...”. She glances quickly to Chris and heads out.
“What the fuck do you think you are doing?!”, Chris stands up ready to go after Laura but Becca stands in front of him, showing him some still images.
“Remember that night?”, she grins at him, “You better sit down or everybody will get to see this, including Laura!”
Chris takes the photos from her hand, “You can’t do this... this was ages ago!”.
@nobounderiesplease I promised you a sketch of Chris a few days ago. This morning I sent you one I did in the tram but it wasn’t so good so here is another one 😬💕💗🌷 I hope it put a smile on your face.

Chapter Three: Can’t Get You Out Of My Head
Chris stares at the horizon enjoying the sound of the ocean... the relaxing feeling of the sand under his feet, the cool breeze brushing over his skin while the sun warms his body - ,It’s nice to be back home’, he thinks. He grabs his phone from his jacket and goes through his photos, deleting each one Becca is on. Suddenly he finds one he took with Laura during their first date - he looks at her big green eyes and her beautiful smile, so warm and full of life. Chris is so lost in his thoughts that he doesn’t hear AJ walking up to him.
“She is pretty... who is she?”, she sits down next to Chris and he looks at her surprised.
“Erm, she is a friends”, he smiles, “How was school?”
“Don’t change the subject, Chris. Tell me more about your friend, I saw the way you were looking at her!”, she teases Chris.
Chris blushes a little, looking back at the photo, “Well, I met her a couple of weeks ago but we went to the same college. She is friendly, kind and very pretty as you said...”.
“I overheard you telling mom that you and Becca aren’t together anymore”, she looks at him and Chris looks back at her, “I’m glad, she is an awful person... she never tried to get to know me, all she did was to talk about her amazing life in New York and everything was about her”.
Chris chuckles, “Yeah, she was a little self absorbed”.
“Are you dating this pretty lady?”, she glances once again over to see her picture.
He smiles, “Okay, AJ... don’t you have homework to do? Do you really think I’m gonna be here discussing my dating life with you?”
AJ giggles, standing up and looking at her brother, “Well, if you aren’t, I think you should. You look cute together!”, she turns around and walk back to the new home Chris bought his mom, right on the waterfront.
He watches his little sister as she goes, shaking his head and mumbling to himself, “When did she get so big?”. He looks back at his phone and at their photo together and decides to call her. It takes a few seconds until she answers the call.
“Hi there! I was already wondering why I haven’t heard from you...”, she says on the other side.
Chris chuckles, “Hi, Laura. I’m sorry, it’s been a busy couple of weeks. My mother moved into her new house and I am in Maine trying to help her with everything”.
“Oh that’s nice. You are a good son, Powell!”, she smiles, “I have been busy as well, just finished my fifth chapter”.
“Wow, that’s great! I’m proud of you, we should celebrate someday”, he looks at the ocean before looking down, playing with the sand, “I was wondering about something... I got this charity event, more like a party, to go to in a couple of days and I would like to invite you to come with me as my date. What do you think?”
Laura takes a moment to answer, “Hmm, okay...”, she says smiling, “I don’t think I have any other place to be anyway”, she lets out a chuckle.
“Lucky me!”, he smiles, “So, I’m picking you up at 8pm. Is it okay?”.
“Great, I’m gonna send you my address then. Talk soon, Powell”, she giggles.
Chris stands up and starts to walk back into the house, “Talk soon, Laura”.

Laura hears the sound of the door bell and heads to the door. She stops in front of a mirror checking if her make up is still looking good before opening the door.
“Good evening, Chris”, she smiles.
Chris jaw drops slightly by the sight of her in a a rose strappy satin mid dress with cowl neck and a thigh high split, “Wow, you know how to dress to a party!”. His eyes sweep over her curves, stopping at her eyes, “Sorry...”, he shakes his head slightly, “Good evening, Laura”.
Laura laughs, “Thank you for the compliment”, she looks at his car, “Let’s go?”
“Yes, let’s go”, Chris takes her hand and they head to the car. He opens the door for her before walking over to the drivers side, “So, I’m just giving you the heads up, my teammates will be there but we don’t have to spend a lot of time with them. We can just say hi and go do our own thing”.
Laura looks at Chris surprised, “Why? I mean, sure if you want to but I don’t see any problem in spending time with your mates. It will be fun, maybe I will learn one or two things about football”, she laughs.
Chris glances over at her surprised, she is so different from his ex. Becca would have been in a bad mood already just by the thought of sharing Chris’ attention with other people. She wouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes talking to his friends because she didn’t like any of them and would be pissed if Chris went out for drinks with his mates. ‘I spent so many years with Becca that I started thinking her reaction was normal...”, he thinks. “So, how's your day so far?”
“Good. I worked in the morning and then went for a run. Tried to catch up with my reading in the afternoon and then it was already time to get ready for this event. What about you?”, she looks at him and smiles.
Chris smiles back and then looks ahead, watching the road, “Great. I had a conditioning session in the morning, went grocery shopping and thought about you”. He turns his head to her and sees she blushing.
“Yeah, what about me?!”, she looks back at him.
Cris moves his eyes to the road with a smile on his face, “About how beautiful you are and how you make me feel...”. He looks back at her noticing the surprise on her face because of his words, “Okay, we are here”, he stops his G-Wagon in front of the venue and the flashes of the press start firing. He walks out of the car, giving the keys to the valet, then he opens the door to Laura, taking her hand and walking in with her. “Are you okay?”, he looks at her, smiling.
“I’m great. People are really having fun here”, she looks at the crowded dance floor.
“Yeah... Come on, I want to introduce you to a few people”, he smiles, walking in front of her, leading the way. They stop at a VIP booth, where six big guys are chatting and having fun.
“Powell!!”, one of them stands up to greet Chris, “Man, I though you were not coming!”, he looks to his side and sees Laura.
“Hey everybody, this is Laura”, he looks at her and she smiles, “Laura, these are my mates Jordan, Cam, Bass, Rick, Joe and Matt”.
Laura smiles friendly, “Hey everybody! What are you guys up to?”, she follows Chris to sit down with them.
“Not much, just talking shit”, Jordan says looking at the other guys.
Bass laughs, “He is only mad he lost a bet!”
“What was this bet about?”, she looks at the guys and they try to pretend they didn’t understand, “Okay, guys stuff... gotcha!”, they laugh together. Chris holds her hand, entwining his fingers with hers.
“So, where did you guys meet?”, Joe asks.
Chris looks at Laura and she gives him a sign to go ahead, “We went to the same college. I heard about her and she about me but only really met a few weeks ago”.
“Oh, this is nice... so serendipitous !”, Joe says, “So, have you ever seen him playing while at university?”
“I did indeed. Not that I understand anything about football”, she looks to the others, “Sorry guys!”. She smiles and continues, “But I did watch a few games. He was really good!”, she glances at Chris.
Matt smiles, “So, will you be coming to our games if you guys get serious?”. Laura blushes.
Chris shakes his head, “Sorry, Laura. These guys are idiots!”
“I need a drink, who wants one?”, she asks.
“And I’m an idiot too... I shouldn’t be spending too much time with you guys!”, Chris and the guys laugh shortly, “I’m sorry, I should have asked... “, he doesn’t finish his sentence because she stops him.
“Don’t worry about it. I’m more than able to get a drink myself!”, she winks at him, “Do you want something?”.
“A virgin martini, please!”, he smiles.
“Two virgin martinis coming up!”, she leaves the group, walking to the bar.
Rick looks at Chris, “Thank God you are not here with Becca!”
“He is right, and you know what. I like Laura. I have a good feeling about you two!”, Joe says, smiling.
Cam looks at Chris, smirking, “Boy and she is gorgeous!”. He draws her curves with his hands.
Chris raises a brow at him, “More respect, please. This is my date you are talking about!”
“Is it serious?”, Bass asks.
“She thinks it’s too early for me to start something but I hope it will become more serious in the near future”, Chris watches as she comes back with their drinks.
She smirks, “Oh, this silence... what were you guys talking about?”. They all start talking at the same time, changing the subject and Laura laughs.
They spent the night having fun together. Getting to know Chris’ mates and dancing until Chris noticed how tired Laura was and decided to drive her home. He stops the car in front of her house and walks her to the door.
“I had a lot of fun tonight!”, he says before she stops in front of her door.
She smiles, “Me too! Your teammates are fun, I like the guys”
“And they liked you too”, he says looking around, quite nervously. “It was nice seeing you again... I was wondering, can I... may I kiss you?”
Laura giggles, shaking her head slightly, thinking about how cute he is when he is nervous. She rises to her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck, slowly closing the distance between them. Chris stared into her green eyes, taking in the scent of her fragrance, feeling his heart almost beat out of his chest. She stops closer to his lips, - so close that she could feel his warm breath on her skin. She smiles, feeling his hands going from her waist to the lower of her back, his fingertips digging into her, bringing her closer to him. Chris watches her facial expressions before closing the gap between them, feeling for the first time her sweet lips on his - gently at first but turning more urgent and passionate with time. As they pull apart out of breath, Laura says:
“Wow... ”, she looks into his blue eyes smiling.
“This was... amazing...”, he chuckles.
Laura blushes, looking away, “I... I think I better go...”, she turns around to open her door. She feels Chris’ hand around her waist again.
He lowers himself to her ear and whispers, “I need to see you again very soon”.
She opens the door, turning around smiling coyly, “I’d like that... Good night, Chris!”
“Good night, Laura”, he watches her as she closes the door.

The next day, Laura wakes up early with the sounds of incoming texts. She reaches for her phone on the nightstand and sees Chris’ name on it. She opens the text and reads:
“Have you seen the papers yet?”
“Don’t freak out!”
“We are everywhere...”
He also sent a picture from the LA times, where Chris holds Laura in his arms and they are looking into each others eyes, laughing. The headline says “Star Quarterback Newly In Love With Mysterious Brunette”
“What the...?”, Laura says staring at the photo of them together.
