As I said in Part 1, we just finished up a game of Guess That Artist (GTA) in the @haunting-heroes-creative-games discord!
As I alluded to there, I caused problems on purpose. See, the guidelines @arzuera put out for this round had a limit of "two submissions per artist".
... but I was trying to get one of my good friends, @suzukiblu (Rin) into the game too. (Rin knows by now what it means when I text them:🪱🪱🪱🎣 ) Cause wow - A lot of people do know Rin's writing by now I think but also their art ls just really cool. And while they got their personal revenge on me for luring them in (😭), they also are a chaos mongrel after my own heart.
"Hey," said Rin, "What if we used our extra entries to collab?"
Me: "... Lemme DM Arzu and we'll find out."
Arzu said yes.
So this was a collab work! I wound up choosing the fic to this one, Rin did some fun lineart... and I did something very similar to my entry for our first GTA game - a cross stitch pattern.
My friend @akela-nakamura wrote me an amazing fic for my birthday this year, and I wanted to show her my appreciation for it. For the fic Hear the Voices Surround Us - have the pattern: Voices
Pattern details, further notes, and lineart under the cut
The view here is meant to be Jason coming up behind Danny during the action climax of the fic. The white squares in the work itself - and in the outline of Danny - are meant to be bare fabric, and not stitched.
Rin gave me a couple variations on their amazing lineart to work with! This is the one I went with:
It's still as stunning as the first time I saw it, tbh.
Pattern Notes
The size of this piece is 100x110 stitches.
There are 15 colors used in this pattern - and also?
WHEN WAS SOMEONE GONNA TELL ME THAT STITCHFIDDLE'S DMC CODES WERE OUT OF DATE?!
So the legend isn't exactly the right colors if you anyone wants to go shopping and stitch it.
An updated threadlist formatted as:
stitchfiddle color ####x (Updated Suggested Color)
where ####x is the number of stitches of said color in the pattern. some of the DMC numbers are the same with new names, some are changed completely.
DMC 310 - Black 1033x (DMC 310 Metallic Black)
DMC 954 - Nile Green 396x (DMC 954 Rice Field)
DMC 919 - Red Copper 368x (DMC 817 Japanese Red)
DMC 562 - Medium Jade 49x (DMC 562 Malachite)
DMC 703 - Chartreuse 108x (DMC 703 Metallic Spring Green)
Hello chaos lovers and fandom fiends! The amazing @arzuera has once again hosted a game for the @haunting-heroes-creative-games - a round of Guess That Artist! Affectionately abbreviated to 'GTA' (*fingerguns*), this artist version of Arzu's amazingly popular Who Wrote That? game was a blast.
The theme this round was to do fanart for a "Lesser Known Fic" - more or less handwavingly defined, and there was a submission cap of two entries per artist.
I pulled some pretty fun shenanigans, but more on that... later.
In the meantime I chose my fic - one that's been a really fun read for me ever since it started here on tumblr in response to a prompt by one of my friends. (insert obligatory "Damnit" here for another of Dog's lethal prompts)
Please note that I am .... NOT. Great at visual art. Okay? I'm not. I don't do it often, and when i do do it i avoid doing lineart - it's not something that's easy for me and while I can have fun with it it's harder for me to get there.
But dang, I thought. This fic deserved some love. So I did my best. 😊
Hey, @redflagshipwriter ? Come get your art for the fun that is Mama Bat.
Text: "Great teeth. If you fly, you have a mouthless costume." (found in Chapter 2 on AO3)
further notes under cut
I do feel like I could do better by this piece. This bit was actually kind of meant to more be an outline of what I wanted - to get a bit more of a feel for the materials I was using (including some new-to-me watercolor pencils that I didn't get to do the watercolor part with) and frame out the scene a bit and just play. I didn't even finish coloring in Danny's clothes - Oops!
Unfortunately, some Real Busy Life Shit started happening in between dreaming this up and the submission deadline, so I didn't get to come back to this work. I was honestly just glad to have something I was still comfortable submitting to the game along with the other chaos i pulled for it.
I'm still working on said Real Busy Life Shit - but I hope to come back to this work again. I was honestly all blushy by the comments in the game chat when this work dropped - for those who don't know the game, works are shared anonymously and your fellow players try to figure out who submitted which work - and it felt really nice to have the honest effort I put into this praised even when all I was seeing were the ways it didn't hold up to any one else's work and how I wanted to make it better.
I'm still really pleased with how well I pulled off the word "fly" inside the bat symbol, despite it being intended as a "first attempt" though. That was really neat of me.
Redflagship - I don't think this really does your fic justice, but I hope you like it anyway! I really enjoy your works!
