I am still recovering from a very intense weekend. I went to a wedding on Saturday and after singing out loud for hours, I think my throat is taking revenge with a stabbing pain. But it was nice, and now I am back to normal - which means, among other things, having some me time and indulging on face masks, long walks under the sun, and meditating on cards :)
Today’s star is the Chronic Tarot. This deck has been created by Victoria from Chronic Design, and from the very start, you can appreciate how bright and colourful these cards are. The colours are not random though! The shapes, the patterns, the symbols, everything is carefully put together to create unique cards which encourage meditation and finding meanings of our own. However, the cards also include keywords to further guide us on our personal reflections.
As I have said, all of the cards are unique, but they work extremely well as a single work of art - mainly because of their geometric nature. In fact, Victoria recommends looking for repeating patterns or colours when drawing different cards. The major and minor arcana have a main design difference, since the former feature rhombuses in which a symbol is contained, while the latter do not really follow a set pattern. I just keep staring at them - even writing this, I have my eyes fixed on the pictures I’ve taken and thinking “whoa”. The backs are colourless and match the borders, which draws even more attention to the colours and shapes. I just feel attracted to the cards even if I just direct a quick glimpse to them.
The 78 tarot cards come in a sturdy, custom designed friction fit box which features the art from the Art card (very fitting). It has a piece of red ribbon attached to lift the cards - so taking them out is easy. The cardstock has a medium thickness, btw. It comes with two extra cards: a Chronic Design card, and another one with explanation of symbols, which is helpful and interesting enough on its own. But, in order to get the most of the deck, the book is the key. With 100 pages of information and incredible attention to detail, this guide shines on its own. There is a small introduction, and then we get to the cards - but it doesn’t just list them with some information, it also has introductions for each of the suits. It also explains that the numbers themselves have meaning, as well as including astrological associations. It’s a book to read over and over :)
Something I have noticed is that some of the cards are different from other decks, which is explained in the guidebook: these are based off a different traditional tarot deck (Thoth). It only makes this deck even more interesting, since it challenges me more! The deck + book option is on preorder, and I strongly recommend getting them both - and you can do so with a 10% off your purchase with the code GlamourZombie (it’s valid for the deck only option too, and even for the tarot necklaces!). I know the pictures are pretty but there’s nothing like seeing these cards in person. So, as I always say, if you like art, or meditating, or just want a nice meaningful gift for you or your loved ones, a tarot deck is a great idea - and the Chronic Tarot is a real charmer full of colours and patterns to keep your mind busy and running!
