End of 2014: Reflections

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE EVERYONE! Anyways, today also happens to be the one year anniversary of this blog. Toots to those of you who have been with me since the beginning (you know who you are) and to new followers, thank goodness you didn't have to witness my writing back then!

One year ago, I had a very different idea of how this blog was going to turn out. Still, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out now :D Here are some things about chroniclesoffireflies's original blog:

Went under the name imsorryinvestigatorevans. Was an Ace Attorney blog for my first OC, Mana Evans, a timid and apologetic investigative reporter estranged from her family.

Now, Mana Evans is an undecided college major student surrounded by close friends and family. (She's still a bit of mess though XD Mana: Hey! T.T )

Darren's original name was Aaron. He was also supposed to be a rude and rather ignorant forensic scientist with good intentions.

Out of all of my muses, I'd have to say Colette Capuno-Norwood changed the least.

Darren was supposed to have an energetic and warm long-term girlfriend. Then Zeke came into the picture...

Investigative Reporter Mana was supposed to eventually meet a lonely performer abandoned by his family and fall in love with him. The irony was that while he got left behind by his family, she left hers behind.

Colette Norwood, the college graduate, was supposed to be the bridge between Mana and her family.

Definitely go back and get Donnel. There’s always a weak character like him in Fire Emblem games that have really good growths and end up being better than most of the regular cast. Reeking boxes on Chapter 1 are good for grinding him.

I cannot overstate my investment in Maribelle as a character (and Maribelle/Lon’qu as a pairing, but honestly Maribelle is so great she has a lot of cool pairings.)

Okay, it sounds like I'll start over and make sure to recruit Donnel this time! Plus, it'll give me a chance to redo a couple of the maps that I didn't do as well as I'd have liked/I missed a few things on. The worst part about FE games is how difficult it is to know which characters to use, because some of them are so delicate and you have to use them RIGHT AWAY, if you try to wait until later, you're going to be screwed in terms of getting them properly leveled, because they'll die so easily.  And if you make some characters over-leveled, they'll just kill everything and leave nothing for the other characters to get at!  Which is why, as much as I love my Chrom/Robin pair, I'm trying not to use them too much. I haven't paired up any other characters, I'm not 100% sure of how exactly it works, what it's doing for me, but I'm still just starting, too, so hopefully I'll get a better understanding of it soon.  ♥

The trickster class is a great one. I like Henry but prefer Tharja for the sorcerer class. I love Say’ri but she comes late. And I didn’t bother with any kid except lucina. My bb<333

Henry was one of my favorite units combat-wise, I leveled him up really high until he got a mount and his support convos are hilarious. Especially if you pair up him and Tharja. Such OTP material. But it’s a while before you meet them.

Also I still used Frederick a ton but mostly as the supporting half of a pair up with my Robin ‘cause I decided to marry him lol.

Sully, Sumia, Lon’qu, Donnel, and Vaike are some staples I usually use. They have good growth rates and promotions. Also, definitely abuse the Pair Up feature when training Donnel. Frederick works the best as backup.

It sounds like I'm doing fairly okay then!  Though, how much is Donnel really worth using?  Because, I admit, I knew that he would grow into a good character later but I didn't know if I actually wanted him/his character design didn't intrigue me, so I left him on the battlefield and didn't level him up and I would have to start the game over (not a terribly big deal, I've only played for a bit over two hours and a chunk of that was watching the cut scenes) so he's not recruitable for me anymore. Is Donnel worth going back and getting next time? I've been pairing Chrom and Robin up together a lot, doing their support combos because I know they're a good match up.  Any other pairings that are must haves in the game that I should be working on matching up together? And is Sumia going to be the best pegasus knight for me or will a better one come along later?  They're often a pain to level up, you have to be so careful with them for so long, but I've definitely learned my lesson well that they are SUPER WORTH IT.  If she's the one I should be focused on, is there a good pair up for her or will anyone do? Cute shipping stuff TOTALLY COUNTS as a reason to pair someone up, btw! Generally, I really like the mounted units, I like that they're generally able to go further and can take hits, which I need because I play where I move my group in a V-formation, so that my weaker characters are protected by them and won't get ambushed on the field.  So, like, my archers and mages can get a step or two behind my Chrom and not die then.  XD  But that means I usually need about four good characters that can take a hit and not die. Right now, Chrom and Sully are shaping up nicely for that, but who else? I can see that I'll need to get Henry eventually, but he doesn't show up until chapter 13 and I'm still a ways off from that and trying to decide who to best put my xp into and which pairings will be the most rewarding, both xp-wise and character interactions-wise!
