Extracting Music from Blazblue Games (PC)
I’ve been into Blazblue so much since mid-2018, and since there’s little discussion about it, I figured I’d explain how you can extract music from Calamity Trigger, Chronophantasma Extend and Central Fiction on PC. This is especially nice when some of the songs (particularly Silent Scream and most Central Fiction music) never got officially released. But please, buy the official soundtracks where you can with the Blazblue games.
So what you’ll need overall are four programs to extract the audio. These being:
Aluigi’s QuickBMS (https://aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm) This is to extract various files used in various games.
Note: You’ll also need to download the script files that allow QuickBMS to know what file it’s attempting to extract. In this case, we need arcsys.bms as we’re dealing with Blazblue games.
Quick Wave Bank (https://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/quick-wave-bank-an-easy-no-hassle-wave-bank-creator.61813/) This is just for Blazblue: Chronophantasma .pac files.
Aluigi’s unxwb (https://aluigi.altervista.org/papers/unxwb.zip) This is just for Blazblue: Central Fiction .pac files.
Audacity (https://www.audacityteam.org/download/) Somewhat optional, but I use it if I want to edit the audio at the end or export the file as an MP3.
The files you see in the Sound folder (in the game’s installation location) are all .pac files. However, how the audio has been compressed/archived varies for each game. That’s why you cannot extract Chronophantasma .pac files in the same way as Central Fiction .pac files.
Make sure you copy the .pac files you’re extracting just to be safe, although Steam can redownload them if needed.
Blazblue: Calamity Trigger
Simply drag the .pac file into Audacity and re-export it as a playable audio file (wav, MP3, etc.). That’s it. (This worked for the music but I haven’t tried for other sounds like voice clips and the like).
Blazblue: Chronophantasma Extend
1. Run QuickBMS to extract the .pac file. It’ll prompt you the following in this order:
Select the .bms file. So that QuickBMS knows what it’s extracting, you’ll need to select arcsys.bms
Select the .pac file you want to extract.
Select where to save the extracted files.
At this point, you’ll have new folders titled what the pac files were, and inside them individually you’ll have an .xsb file and .xwb file. The .xwb has the audio in it, so we’ll be extracting from that.
2. Open Quick Wave Bank and select ‘Extract’.
3. Select the .xwb you want to extract from, and where to save it.
4. Wait for the file to extract and view the .wav file when it’s completed!
Blazblue: Central Fiction
1. Run QuickBMS, and repeat the prompts.
2. Open unxwb, and select the xwb file you want to extract and where to save it. That’s it!
Note that when unxwb extracts any xwb file with audio, it also tells you what format the audio is. When you compare Chronophantasma and Central Fiction’s wav files using unxwb (viewing the output result), the former is WMA and the latter is ADP. It doesn’t explain why though you couldn’t use unxwb to extract a playable wav with Chronophantasma .pac files.
But hopefully if anyone is a music ripper/obsesser and wants the best quality possible instead of YouTube rips or is unsure of other places where the music is kept, that’s how you can get them.
I don’t know about Cross Tag since I don’t have the game, but there is a separate script to extract .pac files with QuickBMS, so give it a shot maybe?
Happy ripping :)
