Aren't things that are brightly colored in nature known to be dangerous?

Arioch is an alchemic engineer, playing with potions, poisons, and tonics. It would know more than most what's safe in the wild.

Chrysallus's outfit is usually a mix of vibrant green, pink, and yellow. Not only that, but light blue skin tone, white eyes and leaves, the only trace of a natural element is his gloves, which is dyed some shade of purple?

Of course Arioch thinks he's dangerous. Of course it thinks he's secretly unhinged. And with every incident that happens, it's catalogued somewhere, and it looks like the conspiracy theory guy meme every time someone asks it what it's talking about.

Too many things seem out of character in recent years. Suddenly, people realize that Arioch was onto something.

There are debates now (heavily divided) about who the commander really is under his public persona.

Chrysallus has chosen to not get involved, and Auri is quick to separate him from that drama. The last thing he needs is to be hounded by journalists about his 'true identity'}

So, I have a few things that are canon to Chrys and Auri particular timeline, and I took a couple of liberties in terms of sylvari behavior and reaction just for my oc's canon.

Following the trail of "some sylvari feel everything too strongly and get overwhelmed in the Grove", Chrys is one of those types, with the unfortunate side effect of a physical cue when he gets too stressed out. Namely, flowers sprouting in his hair. If the stress gets too out of control, or he tries to force it all down for too long, it makes him physically ill, sometimes coughing up petals and flowers in an attempt to force him into a state requiring medical attention or a few days bedrest in order to recuperate.

Chrys despises the fact that this happens, but it's forced him to learn better stress management as a result, especially since this came to light during HoT where he collapsed in the middle of camp some time into the campaign. Auri, being both his lieutenant and personal mender at that point, chewed him out for letting his stress get that bad.

In terms of reactions, especially in combat, I imagine seasoned sylvari warriors have a subconscious reaction to use whatever means necessary to make sure they can defend themselves. In this, parts of their skin may prick up, so to speak, and coat their bodies in a temporary layer of thorns. Kinda like how a cat fluffs up their fur to seem more intimidating, but these thorns could do very real damage to unsuspecting attackers.

While Auri is more a support type mesmer, they have learned how to reflexively activate these thorns, usually when trying to protect Chrysallus when he's otherwise incapable of defending himself. These thorns require a conscious effort to activate, so if they are untrained or unconscious, then a sylvari wouldn't be able to use their thorns as effectively.

"It's come to my attention that apparently having a sentient plant that likely came from Mordremoth in my bag to deal with my surplus of bloodstone dust is somehow unsettling to others.

In my defense: I cultivated it myself, it shouldn't be malicious, and it takes care of my bloodstone dust surplus when I don't have the materials to make bricks out of them. I fail to see the problem here."

Some random trivia bits for today!

• Arioch is not the name it was born with. This is a name it chose upon becoming a courtier, a sign of leaving it's old life in the Grove behind. This is especially true when others came back and condemned it as a coward, which aggravated it. It did what was needed to save lives, and it's act of sacrifice is seen as an act of cowardice? Fuck them then. Burn the Grove down for abandoning it, for scapegoating it when it was unnecessary. Also, it has more than one name, an alias used for not being recognized later on in the Mist War if it ends up back there again.

• Aurienal was a mesmer mentor in the Grove, and is actually pretty good with bows as well! When Chrys came along, they swapped roles from mentor to mender officially, but is still willing to teach and train other mesmers, or teach others how to do some mending if they are by themselves without a mender.

• Chrys's skin is hypersensitive. No one is sure why, but because of this, he has actively avoided prolonged touch (with Auri as the exception so far) and can never seem to be comfortable in his own skin. This is currently being handled with either several layers of clothing, or with a blanket of some kind as a cloak (including weighted blankets). He's sure something is wrong with him, even though Auri believes it may just be a sensory issue of some kind.

"What was Chrysallus like as a sapling?"

Chrys: I- What- Why is this something that people want to know?? I wasn't that much different from other saplings.

My life is only different because of my Wyld Hunt. Beyond that, there is nothing that separates me from the others.

Auri: As a sapling? He was and still is fascinated with the unknown. He took particular interest in the knowledge of other sylvari factions. Which, unfortunately, got the attention of some of the more devout Dreamers. No matter, he's no traitor or spy, and I dare someone to claim he is in front of me.

Arioch: Fuck if I know. I didn't talk to him at all until Mordremoth kidnapped me and he broke me out of that cage. I did kill him once, but somehow, that bastard's still alive. I'll figure out how he did it, just you wait-

Chrysallus has a bleeding heart for animals, cats and dragon-like creatures in particular. So here he is, rescuing cats left and right, and one day, the "soup cats" (the ones trapped in ice blocks that are collected via "super hot" soups) are just staring at a cauldron filled with a soup. Chrys is bewildered and Auri warns him not to drink it because it looked like poison.

Out of morbid curiosity, later that week, he dares to try the cat soup.

Auri later berated him for ignoring the warning, and Chrys was suffering from food poisoning for a few days for doing so. He never made this mistake again.

{Anyone else make the decision that characters with infusions in their gear can turn them on/off as they please? Like, Chrys has the eye infusions, but while he can't turn them off in-game, he has them flare up as a means of intimidation, and they are flaming in the midst of combat. Auri's fascinated by this, and Canach loves to push his buttons just to watch those eyes of his flare with different colors ~🌸}

"What's something that Commander Chrysallus won't ever willingly reveal?

Normally, I wouldn't be humoring this type of inquiry. I know many of his secrets, and his reveal to me is a sign of trust. But, there is one that I can let slip with minimal repercussions.

Since picking up tailoring, he's become quite adept at making stuffed plush dolls. He made one for Aurene when she was a hatchling! This, however, spawned other dragon plushies in its wake: he has one of each dragon he's ever seen. Zhaitan, Mordremoth, Kralkatorrik, he even has one of Vlast in the works.

He has quite a collection. Not sure what he does with the spares, though..."
