Grave news for Chrysalis wiki users.
I’ve been shopping around for a new hosting provider since the current one is basically belly up already, but. There is simply nothing out there that a) I can afford and b) will support the current amount of traffic. Chrysalis gets some 20k-50k unique visitors a month, and averages around 300k page views per month from non-bot visitors. I am just a poor disability pensioner. I can’t pay for this from a regular hosting provider.
Which means that in a month at the latest and most likely in a couple weeks, Chrysalis will be going private - for registered users only. I need to disable anonymous visits to the old site before the transfer to the new hosting provider even, to give Google time to notice that it’s blocked and to no longer send ungodly amounts of people to my poor little site. This so that when I eventually do update the URL to point to the new site, its poor-disability-pensioner-funded (read: not very robust) hosting will not be overwhelmed.
Just a heads up. Note that you’ll have to re-register for the new site once it’s up, user accounts do not carry over. Depending on how the set-up of the new site goes you may or may not need an invite to do that. The best way to know is to have an account at the old site, I’ll be sending out a notification about the process to registered users once the new site is ready to go. (provided the old site is still functional enough to do that by the time the new one is ready)
tldr, better register now if you want to keep using the old site, it’ll be going private mode very soon, and there won’t be another publicly accessible Chrysalis unless someone else starts paying for it.
