spent about 4 days making a super-vocal hoodie!!!! this is a white one and a yellow one frankensteined together (made my brother model)
(extensive) notes, progress pics, refs and additional comments on the zs shows i watched while sewing this under the cut ^^
at the moment of writing this, 4 separate people have commented the 0人能走出声入人心 sticker under my post showing this off on xhs
this was a project motivated by sheer greed. i wanted this hoodie so fucking bad you have no idea. not to wear or anything i just wanted to have one
it was originally a cheap yellow hoodie and a cheap white one! the grey portions, i dyed myself (gonna complain about that later). the idea was that buying the two from the same seller would ensure that they were the same size
an idea that was wrong 😑 the yellow one ended up being a bit bigger than the white one (even though there was only one size available), which meant that i had to work from the white instead of adding white to the yellow. this also meant that i had to resize all the yellow pieces i used
at this point i was so committed to the project & so consumed by greed that i just didn't care. thought ughhh these things might as well happen and started cutting lol

5. i didn't have any templates or measurements. literally just stared at these two pics really hard 👇
6. but it was fun! during this project, i watched the last 5 eps of srrx (was on my srrx rewatch), 中国好声音3 (ep 7 and 15 (had watched ep 2 before), 我要上春晚 2015 (ep 1129), 我要上春晚 （直通春晚）2016 (ep 01111), 中国好声音4 (ep 15) and 挑战好声音. i've caught clips of a lot of these, but this was my first time watching full eps ^^
slight digression. i've now finished every single 中国好声音/中国新声音 ep that zs was on (a LOT) and of the too many finales/巅峰之夜s i have watched, this one was the best!!! zbc ily
but u have to understand. i finished my srrx rewatch and then watched the 中国好声音3 eps and li qi was there. and then he was on the 中国好声音4 too..... i didn't know he and zs had interacted that closely before (although idk if they actually talked much)
(speaking of which, zs had a mini solo in the 我们的梦 大合唱 @ 好声音3 ep 15 and i may be biased but he stole the entire show. my bbg. he's on @ ~4:35 here and lemme tell u those 6 words made watching all 2.5ish hours of that thing worth it)
and then i watched 挑战好声音 and zhaili shuotian was there..?.?..?..?? 0人能走出声入人心 ✋ he was a contestant, not a mentor! this was pre-beard so i almost didn't recognise him.. it's not on his baidu either so i felt like i was going insane. but no
that's zhaili shuotian.
and then someone later in the season sings 得不到的爱情 in shanghaihua... im connecting the dots.............
but i really loved 挑战好声音!!!! almost as much as i despise yoku. i thought the runtime was beautiful (40mins!!!!!), the editing was very 2017 (so many random gifs.. but still not as bad as 我爱二次元), the concept was creative, and i appreciated the work that the producers put into souping up the contestants' stages
and i loved all of zs' performances. very much a 突破 sort of show!! having watched zs on yyyjh1 as well it's super super cool to me how he's always been committed to challenging himself and new styles.. shoutout to 有点儿意思 (talked abt it here) and 果汁分你一半 (when i saw what he did w the latter i literally said 'ohh i love you ☺️☺️' out loud.. stupidest grin on my face..)
i've also now finished all of zs' 我要上春晚 + 直通春晚 eps. it's an obnoxious volume of chunwan. but this 直通春晚 201601111 turned out to contain my favourite chunwan skit to date lol coming in at the very last moment?? i thought its mix of physical comedy, delivery, and (surprisingly) touching message made it very easy to watch ^^ it's at abt ~49mins here.
7. digression over! anyway, the grey parts of the hoodie (as i have mentioned before) were dyed from extra bits of the white one. it was my first time using fabric dye and i did not expect it to be as incredibly frustrating as it turned out to be 😭 the first two times i tried to dye the strips, the colour didn't take at all.. in the end i eyeballed the measurements out of desperation and they took on the third try 😑 worth it!!! though!!! and i'm very happy with how similar the colour was to my refs (on account of the eyeballing lol)

8. however what was both the most annoying + most rewarding was the hood. the srrx hood is yellow with white lining, but the hoods i had were yellow + yellow lining and white + white lining 😑 so i spent most of the process zoning out with a seam ripper in hand (not a good idea typically) and breaking both hoods down into four semicircle pieces each. then, i cut 2 of the yellow semicircles down to the size of the white ones and sewed yellow-to-yellow on the curved edge + likewise for 2 of the white pieces, then sewed them together to make a lined hood
^ very satisfying. thank god the og hoodie doesn't have a drawstring also
9. the last step was the text on the front!! i ran it through a font identifier and found out that the font used was called Edo Pro Brush Font, ach so:
i decided on 40cm x 10cm for measurements and omfg getting this printed was such a fucking hassle 😭 it's quite a large design and a lot of custom iron-on sticker sellers on shopee maxed out at ~30cm + once i found people willing to do it they cancelled on me 😭😭 and then i found another seller and they cancelled on me too 😭😭😭 like the dyeing, third time was the charm ig.. fml..
but it's done!!!!! and i'm very happy with it. i have a couple other sewing projects to share, but (like this hoodie) they're in purgatory rn bc i'm waiting on some finishing details. now i can say i have a srrx hoodie ☺️ not that i a) am going to wear it b) actually like srrx. i don't like srrx.

PS. as things stand i've watched all of zs' shows from 中国好声音3 (2014) to 天天兄弟营业中 (2020) (and then a lot afterwards but my streak was broken by kr lol)!!! except for 放歌新中国 (missing ep 20151004 on the cctv upload (one of the 3 zs eps of that stupid show 😑😑)), 中华百家姓 (mangotv has a copy but i can't find an upload of the full season that's free (not paying mangou money 👍)), and 约吧好声音 (also haven't found a free copy). if anyone knows where to find any of those, i would be immensely grateful!!!!

the template that i used makes you the jumper and the bib on the left. everything else (the hat on the left, the hood and bow on the right), i freestyled!!!
sewed the piece on the left first ^^ it only took a couple hours. i was very bad at remembering to take process pics; you can't really see it in the photo, but i've already cut the sock on the bottom half-open
^ was very relieved that the socks were big enough!! even so, i only had just enough lining for the cuffs/collar in the end
3. 了不起的长城 was my zs show of choice for this project fire emoji fire emoji. obligatory show commentary below //skip the •s if u don't want to witness my bitching
• maybe my expectations were a bit high (?????) i went into changcheng thinking that it was good (??????) and i wouldn't call it particularly bad but idk man i just did not see the good part. i think the editing was weird!!! which threw the pacing, which obliterated the stakes of each activity. at some point i thought to myself whoooo fucking caresssss and you know. not me i did not care abt those stakes at all
• also where were the women in the main cast. i missed women
• the last full season of a zs show i had watched was srrx (my scheduled srrx rewatch/bash skull violently into wall time) which didn't have any women bc it was srrx. but changcheng?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
• i loved changcheng for one reason which does not rlly belong on this blog so for all intents and purposes it does not matter so if we r not talking abt love we can talk about hate. have any of u watched the changcheng 加长版 extra eps bc let me fucking tell you
• what the fuck
• how was half of this footage cleared for posting. bc thats what it is it's footage there's no editing no background music it is 10+mins of raw footage from a stationary camera normally a decent distance from the action filming at like 300p and that's all. the type of episode i felt like i wasn't supposed to be seeing bc wtf is this. security camera footage. brtv what r u doing
• sadly, i think i absorbed very little of the trivia. however zs was so so so so so cute on that show aljfka smth abt the casual athletic wear/winter clothes and his makeup (particularly his lipstick).. ohhhg people r sleeping on his changcheng styling. and ok the show was watchable. okay. it was watchable
• and a big thank you changcheng for the 1h 30min episodes. i really appreciated that. currently i have started 令人心动的Offer s2 and i miss you 1h 30min episodes
• i do like Offer2 better tho.... sucks 2 suck changcheng
4. ^ sleeves!! i don't have process pics for the bib and hat, but for those what u see is what u get. i wish i could've made the hat a bit bigger, or lined it like how i did the sleeves, but that was literally all the fabric i had left
5. my primary inspiration and reference for the second piece was this:
if you'll excuse the labubu. the thing about this white fabric was that it sheds like hell. i must've used half a roll of scotch tape trying to clean up the stray fuzzies as i worked 😑
6. for the ears, i measured the bunny-ear-headband that i bought on tb for my 小姑娘 (you can see it in p1 + p3)!! sewing the pink 'into' the white was tricky on account of the curved section, but the end effect is extremely satisfying to me
7. the central motivation for this project came about when i went on holiday directly after getting back from shenzhen in the december of 2025 and it was cold as balls. omfg. and i felt genuinely sincerely bad that i didn't have winter clothes for him??? i remember thinking ohhmygod i'm so sorry are you cold!! i'll get you proper clothes i promise!! like it caught me off-guard how genuine the feeling was. intellectually i know my 小姑娘 #cannotfeelthecold but emotionally i was devastateddddd.. so onesies were in order once i got back ^^

if the srrx hoodie that i made in jan was motivated by greed, this one was motivated 👍 also by greed 👍 90% of these projects are motivated by greed
and tbh i had nothing else i wanted to make!! had the idea of a mini ver of this outfit at the very start of the year when i was overseas and i figured if i had anything else i wanted to make by june i wld go w that.. turns out that i didn't...
so a smaller project this time it was ^^ this only took 2 days of sewing. in total, i made 4 pieces! a pink turtleneck, black pants, a black vest and the jacket //tbh 2 days was all i had, anyway 😓
^ much more diverse in terms of fabric than my other projects, as you can see!! fabric tangent incoming:
at the very least i wanted the same materiality in the mini jacket as the irl one, so the sleeves were faux leather (far left) + the breast panels/detailing were the black/pink fuzzy fabric 2nd and 3rd to the right. tbh the ribbon was the hardest thing to source! in the end i literally saved an image of a plain roll of pink ribbon, drew black stripes on it, ran it through tb image search and crossed my fingers. good thing something came up!!!! my alternative was buying plain pink ribbon and embroidering stripes on it which wldve taken. forever probably. and also wldve looked messy as hell
the black/pink fuzzy fabrics were leftovers from my biaobiao bag last year!! but they weren't really pants/sweater material so i decided to get a pair of socks for the turtleneck and a handkerchief for the pants. good thing my 小姑娘 is small so there was no need to worry abt buying large pieces of fabric.. altho now when i see cute socks i face the dilemma of should i be keeping these for myself.. or making keke clothes 🤔🤔
speaking of socks, they were actually thicker than i expected!! which was fine in the end but that did add to a minor issue which i will talk abt later. the vest was part of an actual turtleneck whose sleeves i cut off earlier this year bc #sleevelessturtlenecksaremypassion. slash heich jay it really was just a cheap turtleneck i liked better w/o sleeves 👍👍 actually, i thought this would be the hardest fabric to work with?? little did i know
4. fabric tangent over!! ok first i made templates. and i rlly do mean 'made templates' bc everything other than the pants i either modified from ones i already had or made from scratch myself!! for instance one of my 小姑娘's outfits already has a green vest, so i traced that onto paper + cut it out + did markings and modifications after putting keke in it hahaha //the jacket was the modified top half of this jumper design ^^ except that the front and back were one piece of fabric rather than separate panels
5. remember how i said that i thought the vest fabric would be the hardest to work with. that was wrong. the actual hardest fabric to work was the turtleneck/socks 😑 and my measurements ended up being off the first time around so i had to redo it entirely. as you may be able to see in p1/p2 i folded my turtleneck template a LOT smaller hahah but it fits rlly well now!! and i'm super super happy w how the collar folds over like an actual turtleneck
6. afterwards, i made the (?) vest i think. irl, this is a cardigan! but i decided to forgo the sleeves because of the issue i mentioned before which i will leave for the very end of this post where it is most pertinent 🙂↕️🙂↕️ i thought this thing was going to be harder than it ended up being because i thought it would be hard to hem the fabric and this thing is 95% hemming, but it ended being no problem at all!! i just made a copy of my template, folded the fabric around it + hemmed it + tore the paper out when i was done.
7. the pants were also super simple however i had absolutely no idea what i was doing. templates and tut were from @/杨咩咩 on xhs ^^ it relies the very last fold to form a coherent pants shape but bc i cld not visualise this i ended up hemming at least 2 areas that ended up being folded into the pants HAHAHA
obligatory show commentary time!! during this project i finished 歌手2020. as u may know this was my first time watching it all the way thru bc normally the turkey makes me ragequit

8. ok back to sewing talk haha this is a rather long post i'm afraid 😅 finally, the jacket!! this jacket was my 白月光

i got my own last november (x) for shenzhen/the following holiday ^^ it's a very nice jacket (as expected of a 同款) and that means i Cannot wear it in the tropics (way too hot) but it is my favourite piece of clothing
9. the jacket itself was decently easy to make!! however. it is crazy detailed and i was committed to recreating as many of those details as possible, so that took a lot of time (it was completely hand-stitched!)
10. for instance, the cat paws were 2 sizes of pompoms that i cut in half and glued to clear sticky notes (bought them to annotate one of my lit texts last year but i've mainly been using them to make stuff like this haha), which i then coloured with highlighter and attached to the sleeves
11. finally, that issue i mentioned above! the thing abt having so many layers in one outfit is that the fabric becomes harder and harder to drape and control. that's why i made a vest instead of a cardigan which would've added yet another layer around his arms!! but the sweater is still quite thick + the leather sleeves of the jacket are ofc rather stiff, so in the end i sewed a piece of wire into some black fabric and then attached that to the collar so the entire jacket is easier to manipulate/drape/position ^^ hashtag #cheating

handstitched this for basically 4 days nonstop in some dissociative state while watching over 20 hours of 声生不息·家年华* 👍 in terms of a tutorial there was no tutorial (i just gathered as many pics of wips/the finished thing as i could and hallucinated really hard)
the laoshi i got my templates from was super nice! although i had finished the project by the time they answered the question i sent them.
there's a handle and velcro at the back. the evening i finished him was spent walking around the apartment, holding him up and repeating 是(ssī)个孩子……是个孩子…… in some sort of exhausted trance (?)

2. biaobiao beret!
met a super cool 米姐 @ the sydney 应援 who was wearing something like this (but made of felt) and decided that i Had to have one
(who knows when it'll see the outside world, though.. maybe at the next 应援 i go to) (the loml for modelled for me in p1)
3. biaobiao earrings!
these were custom phone shaker charms onto which i hot-glued earring backings, which means i actually made ~5 pairs of each design instead of just the ones in these photos.
super glad that i had extra, though, because a friend of mine who went to nanjing/taiyuan gave me one of her nanjing merch envelopes + her 物料 for the two stops and if i didn't have anything to give her in return i would have died?
