Made Feature: Church Barbershop
Shoot & Conversation w/ Ryan Gonzalez . San Francisco, CA & NYC/2019
I have personally been friends with the couple that kicked off this, now, San Francisco institution for a number for years now. Shortly after I moved to the Big Apple, I found a contingency of Brooklyn based San Francisco ex-pats and the rest was history.
Ryan (Shown Above) to me was one of those guys that didn’t always have a plan but knew what he wanted and where he wanted to go, and got there. He is one of those people that can see the open shot, gap in the play and make the rest happen. On a visit back home, I took the chance to check out the shop, located in Hayes valley. I wasn’t surprised how it came to be because it’s a great looking shop and delivers on creating community and has a unique aesthetic lifestyle. It’s one of those places that stands out without needing to sell you on who they are. You just know you want to be a part of what they do. I stood in admiration of both he and his wife, Beatrice. They committed to transform themselves and build community.
Here is an Discussion in Manifesting that dream during a visit to New York City. We sat down at M Shanghai, caught up and talked about Church, Soup dumplings and advice.

At the time of this interview, I wasn’t sure what format the process highlight work best but it seemed to compliment the shots and play nicely into a mixed media format.
