Bach's Chaconne
I have been listening to a bunch of different performances of it for a variety of instruments, and they're all really good (special shout-out to Segovia's rendition, which I return to regularly), but thus far nothing has quite rivaled Hilary Hahn's absolute primal scream of an interpretation.
Merula's Ciaconna?
Merula, Tarquinio
Ciaconna [04'31]
Studio Musicians, Aaron Brown (violin & director)
Early/Modern Independent
Tarquinio Merula (1595-1665) - Ciaconna a 4 for 2 Violins, Cello and Basso continuo in C-Major, Op. 12 No. 20. Performed by Combattimento Consort Amsterdam.
Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is so underrated today. Hopefully this Chaconne in F Minor, played by the brilliant Helmut Walcha, will change people’s views.
