Copenhagen International Improv Festival - Part 2 (Wednesday Night)
For my next night at the CIIF I managed to get a free ticket to the main stage from the lovely Sarah Mcgillion (@samtmcg on insta), who is a producer/performer at the ICC Theatre and a good friend.
First up was ‘Meanwhile, Back at the Lab’; this was done in a tricky format where they set up a main location (in this case a fire station) and then spin off stories about each character, while periodically returning back to the main location. This is a format I’ve tried a few times in the past and it proved to be quite difficult, but these guys pulled it off pretty well.
Highlight: Completely nonsensical fire-fighting techniques
Second up was the team ‘Only Human’, comprised of ICC alumni. The format was your basic long form - scenes strung together through absurdity including a pregnant lady who thought her baby was a hamburger, and the putting together of a human being, using only eye-lashes. It was nuts!
Highlight: Everything I just mentioned
Next up was the ‘ICC ALLSTARS’ doing some short-form game shenanigans ala ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway’, much to the delight of the audience. (Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo...)
And finally, who could forget the awesome American powerhouse crew of ‘Those Who Can’ doing what they do best: great Improv with lightning-fast alacrity and brilliance.
Highlight: One man’s journey through the forest (audience) while getting whacked by tree branches repeatedly
And that’s a wrap on my second night of the festival - not forgetting the super fun jam afterwards back at the ICC Theatre that I once again had the pleasure of taking part in.
