The months had gone by so fast, it barely felt like there was enough time for her to prepare for the last of what was coming upon them. It had been eerily quiet, very little communication from her ‘friends’ on the other side, the void had been hushed since the last threat upon her and her child’s life. Elenaris was relieved, of course, but also on alert seeing as nothing was ever so easy with the dark shadows. Despite Cineas requesting that she take her life easy and remain in their home on Ravenhill for the remainder of the pregnancy, Elenaris was far too stubborn and independent to do such a thing.
She had overseen all of the finishing touches to both nurseries, the one in her family’s home and the one in Cineas’, she sat with Cindel for hours knitting and embroidering items, but she also spent quite some time still in her study and researching, and even practicing her art. Elenaris had always relied on her ability for magic, but seeing as she felt it might turn on her at any given moment, she turned to different forms of alchemy and the study of herbs. There hadn’t been any signs of issues with the baby or the pregnancy in general up until the most recent passing days. The time was coming to an end, of course things were going to progress rather fast after a certain point, however something just didn’t feel right.
The night had been hushed, the sound of the wind against the trees and the large manor offering an ominous ambiance as the darkness consumed the daytime into the late hours of the evening. Cineas was in his study, as he often was while Elenaris tended to be asleep by now. However, tonight she found herself rather restless, roaming the hallways for no particular reason. She came to the top of the large staircase that would lead down to the foyer, her hands resting upon the railing as she overlooked the darkened room below. The feelings came on slow at first, causing Elenaris to furrow her brow and bring her hands to now gently fall upon her swollen belly.
It was all in one quick breath that the quietness of the night was broken with a piercing cry that would echo throughout the manor. One hand returned to the railing in attempts to keep her weight up, failing to do so when a wave of pain hit her once again and she fell to her knees and then eventually down to her back. Something had been wrong, she knew it but she hadn’t prepared enough for this. Her cries for help continued up even after they all had arrived at her side. Cineas, Cindel, Pyrenious,Ebonheart, and even a few other stewards in the house staff.
Ebonheart and Cineas quickly moved to scoop the Lady of the house up, carrying her quickly to their chambers to lay her upon the bed. Her breathing was heavy and her consciousness was in and out. Cineas moved to take hold of her hand, a grip that was reciprocated in force at first but slowly softened up until she let go all together. Cindel rushed to gather all the supplies Pyrenious needed for the delivery as the time had come to welcome the little Lord Duskhollow into the world. The little mage looked to Cineas, placing a hand to his shoulder as she offered a very solemn and requesting gaze before gesturing toward the door.
He didn’t want to leave her, he didn’t want to leave his son, but with strict coaxing from Cindel and Ebonheart, he finally did so. Just as he stepped through the doorway, the large door was closed behind him leaving a resounding thud that brought a pain to his chest. The night was going to be long, and it had only just began as his palms pressed to the wooden door briefly before the never ending pacing began.
Come morning, they were to planning to have a new addition and in hopes that they weren’t losing another.
[ Collab between @cineas-duskhollow and I, the night before the wedding]
He had little experience with the dealings of the night prior to being wed. Aside from literature, the entire experience had been left to the wandering of his mind. He had eaten dinner with her in their shared quarters, a very different pace than their usual dinner in the large dining hall with numerous attendants. However, this slowing down seemed natural if not appropriate for what they were preparing for. The step did not seem all that large to him in theory. They had been living together, she was carrying his child and they had invested themselves into each other’s business. There was little that one did not have access to in regards to the other, but that did not remove some fleeting feeling of anxiety on his end. His stomach rumbled as he nursed the remainder of his glass of wine.
“We’ve only a few hours remaining,” he finally spoke as his emerald hued eyes glanced at her from across the table. “Before I must take my leave and you sleep in this bed alone for the last and final night before it is officially ours.”
Elenaris lifted her gaze to meet his, her lips tugging into a gentle smile as she looked him over with curiosity. “Indeed that is so. I wonder, are you nervous?” She asked, head tilting just slightly as she lifted her glass to sip from the cool water that she had taken to much more often recently. “It is not too late to change your mind, after all, should you wish to.”
He released a breathy chuckle in response to her actions as he shook his head. “I would not change my mind, love,” he replied in a tone just above that of a whisper. Cineas placed the metal chalice down onto the wooden table as his fingertips picked at the palm of his opposite hand and his line of sight followed to his picking. “I would reckon that I am rather nervous of such things,” he replied as he hesitated for a moment but finally allowed himself to gaze upon her once more. His lips drew into a slight smile at the corners as his head canted somewhat. “Are you?”
She lofted a brow as he broke the look they shared, humming softly as he spoke. “I suppose I am a bit nervous, though it is quite fleeting, I must admit.” Her cup, too, was place down to the table as she now held her attention completely upon him and their discussion. “ Might I ask what those things are that you feel somewhat nervous of by chance?” She leaned back into her chair slightly, her elbows resting on the arms and hand came to her stomach with intertwined fingers.
Cineas initially responded to er with a similar movement of drawing back into his chair and moving one of his hands to trail along the hair that lined his jawline. His gaze was fixated on where her fingers lay on her stomach, his lips still remaining slightly upturned at what lay within her stomach. “It is just general nerves, my dear,” he replied and ran his tongue over his lips to moisten the skin that had dried somewhat. “How is our little lion?”
Lids narrowed at his response but her demeanor was mostly in jest at his initial admittances of nerves. “If you say so, my love.” There was a soft chuckle at that until she found herself looking down to her stomach with an even brighter smile. “And here I have been calling him our little Raven…” She offered him a bit of a teasing glance before continuing. “But it would seem he is doing well. Pyrelious has been at my side every other day with exams, teas, or vitamins. We are both being well looked after.”
He released a soft chuckle as his hand moved from his jawline with a quick movement along the stubble. “What are those things that are half bird, half lion?” He questioned as he closed his eyes momentarily in thought. “A gryphon!” He seemed rather pleased with himself as he spat the answer to his own question out and he released a laugh in a quick follow up. “Our little gryphon. It does seem quite suited given our merging of homes. He will have the courage and strength of a lion and the cunning of a raven.”
Elenaris found herself laughing in a chime that had not fulfilled her in such a way in quite some times. “A gryphon, my dear? While, yes, the idea is suiting, but the concept is not as… appealing. The strength and courage of a lion and the cunning of a raven, he simply can be both.” She stated with a smile as she leaned forward to reach across the table toward him, her hand resting just in front of him. “I love you, Cineas.”
The Sin’dorei took a moment before leaning forward in his own chair to outstretch his hand to lay atop of hers. Her soft skin felt cool beneath his slightly worn hand and his fingers danced over her skin in the softest of ways. “I love you as well, Elenaris,” he replied and smiled at her. “I love you, my wife.”
[ Thank you to all who attended and for @whitstanwilhelm for being our officiate!]
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the undying devotion and eternal union of Cineas Duskhollow and Elenaris Eventide. Through life and death to be bound with an unyielding and unrelenting commitment to one another. Please, come closer and witness the binding ceremony. If you would, your hands please.”
Whitstan took a red string and began to cautiously wrap it around their hands. "The crimson signifies the blood, tears and sacrifice that comes with loving another with all your soul, and that undying devotion to, no matter what, trudge through thick and thin, the best and even the most hardest and most trying of moments."
He now took a black string and did the same, "The black signifies commitment through the darkest of times, courage in the face of overwhelming adversity and hope through the grim dangers that might await us.These both signify a bond through death and ties you together even in the afterlife, that the Void might recognize your eternal ties to each other. Do you Cineas Duskhollow pledge your very being, through life and death with no reservation to Elenaris?”
"I do."
“Do you, Elenaris Eventide, pledge your soul to be bound eternally in life and death, to Cineas, to never part even in the depths of the Void?” Whitstan asked as he turned to Elenaris for her answer.
“Yes, I do.”
“Very well. Give each other your pledges that all present may recognize your devotion to each other.”
Elenaris’ words were calm and held the same low and determined tone as she often spoke. Her gaze never left Cineas’ as she offered her vows to him. “My dearest Cineas, my love, my Raven...I have seen and felt the years come and pass me day by day, the feeling of wholeness eluding me. For the longest time I was unable to see what it was that kept me from completing that portion of my being. I looked for the answer in power, in wealth, and sometimes I even looked for it in the face of death many times. It was not until my path crossed with your own that I realized it was none of those things that would ever bring me to the peace I searched for. Our souls may not wholly belong to us at this point in our lives, but what does, I believe are intertwined into each other’s futures. Everything we have done before this moment has paved the path to bring us here to pledge ourselves to one another. Therefore, that is what I am to do. Pledge my allegiance, pledge my trust, pledge the fulfillment of the rest of my life...and lastly I pledge my love, to thee, my other half. I am and forever always will be yours.”
Cineas finally broke within his stoic demeanor to smile at her, if only slightly. With their hands bound together, he had drew in a breath and diverted his gaze to focus on their bound hands. "Elenaris, there has been little moments that we have been apart sinceour meeting months ago. I've not found another person who I feel more alive with than you as you stand here before me ready and willing to become my wife. I have little use for fortune telling and future seeing, but I do believe that the cosmos has created the path in which we walk together and that this path was only meant for our two beings, whether we were to meet in this life or the next or the next. Our souls were bound by fate to find each other and explore the hidden depths that no other had traversed before. You, Elenaris Eventide, are a piece of my essence from this day forward. I am committed to your being, your essence and your soul in this life and when we find ourselves drifting amongst the Void in waiting for our next journey."
Whitstan nodded as he placed a cold hand on theirs for a moment, "Well spoken, both of you. Love does not end in death." he commented, "Cineas, Elenaris, on behalf of all those present, and by the strength of your own devotion, I pronounce you bound and married." he spoke before removing his hand. "You may seal your vows with a kiss." he continued.
Cineas shifted his gaze to Whitstan as he spoke, waiting for the confirmation to move forward with the next steps of the marriage. He nodded at the man to his right after he finished speaking and slowly took another step towards Elenaris. His free hand moved togently cup her cheek as he leaned forward to brush his lips against her own.
Elenaris smiled down to where their three hands met for that brief moment, her smile brightening before she lifted her gaze once more to Cineas. She, too, stepped forward to bridge the short gap between them. Leaning in, she met his lips with her own as her eyes closed briefly to relish in the short live moment before pulling away.
That was it, they were finally bound together by marriage, their vows and devotion for one another on display for all to see and know.
[ RP snippet between @cineas-duskhollow and I - which brought in @eleneyaeventide and @eliyon-starfury. Lemme tell you, this was fun! Sorry for posting it late!]
Cineas had wasted little time in sending the letters out to Eleney’a and Eli’yon. The stiff parchment paper had been sealed with the crimson E melted into the wax but also held the black seal that one would soon learn to be that of Duskhollow. The couple seemed quite perplexed by the request for them to join Elenaris and Cineas at the estate and Eleney’a found this to be rather unsettling. Even still, she eventually convinced Eli’yon to comply and they were packed and on their way back to the Isle.
As the two were ushered into the grand estate, Cindel greeted them and promptly guided them into the smaller dining room where a lunch had been prepared and all they awaited was Cineas and Elenaris to make their appearance. Eleney’a sighed heavily as she glanced over to Eli’yon who already seemed tense, as expected. “Surely it is for simple formalities. I can’t imagine anything else…” She shrugged, cutting a slice of cheese to place upon her plate with grapes and crackers before indulging in the wine that had been brought.
Cineas seemed rather uncomfortable himself as he sat on the edge of the bed in their chambers while he waited for Elenaris to finish readying for their lunch. His attire as of late had drifted from the elaborate robes to more simple leathers and light, linen shirts as he found his studies disrupted for continued work on the wing of the estate he was dedicating to Arrynn. It was rather hasty, but it gave him purpose in his work for now. A gentle knock at the door had signified to him that their guests had arrived and he perked slightly. “Love?” He questioned, his brow perking as he gazed at Elenaris through her vanity mirror.
Eli'yon shifted somewhat as he helped himself to the finger foods that were scattered about the table. He followed suit with Elenay’a as she served herself some cheese and had cut a much larger portion for himself. Though he declined wine at the time being, refusing alcohol was a rarity for Eli'yon but he had simply asked for chilled water instead. “Formalities,” Eli'yon said with a bit of a growl as he seemed to pick at, rather than consume the food on his plate. “I would much prefer to be back on the mainland.”
Elenaris perked at the sound of the knock, putting the final details of reddnend tint to her lips before she stood to meet at Cineas’s side. “Mm, shall we?” She said with a bit of a deep breath before opening the door and moving through it. They walked side by side, Elenaris not reaching for his arm or hand unless he offered it first. “Let us hope this goes as well as expected.”
In the dining room, Eleney’a huffed at Eli’yon and shook her head. “You knew this day would come eventually, unless you expected me to turn into just another fling.” She eyed him a brow raised and despite her words she knew they were wrong.
Eli'yon narrowed his eyes at the younger woman’s retort and finally allowed himself to bite into the cheese. “I've already met your sister. We're both aware of that. What I'm not fond of is whatever man thinks that he can come in here and start telling us what to do like he's some Lord of the house. Your sister isn't even married!” His face seemed to redden as his tone divulged his irritation and his voice was already louder than it should have been.
“It seems it's going rather well already,” Cineas remarked as he could hear louder voices but not make out the entirety of words. He stiffled a quiet laugh as he had taken Elenaris’ hand through their walk of the halls but had released it prior to their arrival to the dining room. He submitted to her as the door was opened for them and he gestured to Elenaris to make her entrance into the dining hall.
Elenaris sighed heavily as she recognized the voice even through the muffled echoes of the halls. As they came to the door and it was opened, she stepped through and made her entrance, however she paused and gestured for Cineas to take his place at her side. “Eleney’a...Mister Starfury.” She greeted them both as Eleney’a had rose to welcome her sister properly. “How nice to see the two of you again, I thank you for answering our call.” Elenaris glanced to Cineas as she introduced him. “As I am sure you are curious, this is Lord Cineas Duskhollow, it was through combined conversation that we thought it best we all come together for this lovely lunch and have a bit of a talk.”
Cineas followed Elenaris as she gestured for him to come along her side. He offered a slight bow to his company, noticing Eleney’a’s manners as she rose to greet them but also taking note of how Eli'yon remained seated. Their eyes made contact, locking in what only could be noted as a visible power struggle for the moment. Cineas quickly occupied himself elsewhere as a smirk fell over his features. His hands had moved to quickly find the chair where Elenaris was to sit, before allowing himself to take his seat next to her.
“How quaint,” Eli'yon replied as he broke off a piece of the cracker. “Elenaris Eventide in her big estate playing house with some stuffy bag of air.” He continued with a dismissive gesture to Cineas.
Elenaris nodded to her sister to gesture for her to sit as she did the same after Cineas offered the chair to her. Her gaze shot to Eli’yon with eyes that pierced his visage like daggers and she inhaled deeply before responding. “Dear Eli’yon, simply because you were denied the place at my side does not mean you have any right or reason to insult the man that rightfully holds it now.” She stated calmly as she glanced over to Eleney’a somewhat apologetically. The younger Eventide simply lowered her gaze as she went about plucking the grapes from their stems only to lay them aside on the plate.
Cineas remained quiet at the present moment, he hadn't a need to interject and felt Elenaris could defend herself in the verbal back and fourth. He had busied himself with pouring a large glass of wine for him but only half full for her as he placed the pitcher back down in the mid of the table. “It’s not an insult,” Eli'yon replied rather briskly as he took note of the man at her side. “It’s the truth. His hands appear soft with the lack of work he's ever had to accomplish and I'm sure he spends a good influx of his days accomplishing absolutely nothing.” Eli'yon continued as his eyes found Cineas’ once more. All the older man could do in response was chuckle.
The elder turned her gaze once more to Eleney’a. “You could not have taught him some manner, at least? Between your gallivanting in bars and sexual encounters?” She had quite obviously become irritated but still remained calm save for the venom spat in the form of words. “Eli’yon, there is little need to go on about the accomplishments that Lord Duskhollow has made or his prior work. What matters now is the union that we are in which agrees that he is taking the position as Lord of the Eventide household and the only accomplishment that is worth discussing is the likelihood of Eleney’a soon having a nephew.” Her chin tiltled upward as she glanced to Cineas with a proud grin.
Eleney’a seemed shocked by Elenaris’s words though she could hardly imagine anything less of her. That was how she worked, intimidation by her words. “Perhaps the insults should stop between us all. We are all quite aware that the relationship between Eli’yon and I began a bit impure but as Lord Duskhollow stands by your side, I stand by his until he wishes me to leave.” She regarded Eli’yon before her eyes widened at the new. “A nephew?”She whispered across the table to Elenaris, looking between her and Cineas.
“We do not expect either of you to leave,” Cineas finally spoke up as he took a sip of the wine. “Elenaris and I have discussed the importance of her family and continuing to be the matriarch of that family. We are attempting to make amicable solutions to all issues.” He explained and released a heavy sigh as his attention now regarded the younger man. “Lady Eventide has explained to me your affections towards her and her denial of those affections in return. I am quite sorry that you were hurt upon her honesty, but I ask that you respect our union further. As the Lady stated, I will be Lord of this home and respect is deserved.” His hands promptly folded together as he rested them before his plate while Eli'yon seemed to fume. “You dare sit there and criticize our relationship as you're already with child? What did he do? Drug you?”
Eleney’a jumped at the raise in Eli’yon’s voice. She reached her hand across the table in hopes of gaining his attention. “Stop! Stop arguing and name calling.” She asked him softly before Elenaris spoke up. “I criticize your relationship because after claiming your devout love for me you quickly turned to prey upon my sister. Now, if my assumptions based on observations are incorrect, then I apologize, however, I believe that is partially why we are here today.” She rose a hand in the air to further the silence so she could continue to speak. “But moving forward, as Lord Duskhollow said, he is Lord of this home and should be respected as such just as I should be respected.”
Lips pursed as Cineas seemed rather disgusted at the entire manner. The younger man was going on like a child had typically and he found his gaze dropping in slight embarrassment for him. “I never claimed devout love for you, Elenaris, I claimed an abundance of caring for you. That I wanted to one day be that for you. Now it seems in a short period of time, you've forgotten anyone that protected you, was there for you, or consoled you and found yourself carrying some silly Lord’s spawn.” Eli'yon was seething, it could be felt as his chest rose and fell with his breathing but he couldn't help but jump as Cineas slammed his hand down on the table and rose to his feet. The sound of yelling and slamming had attracted Ebonheart as he kept his silent watch outside but he hadn't done more than enter the dining hall with his hand on the hilt of his sword.
“The Lady need not ask for your cooperation on the matter any longer.” Cineas spoke as his tone was stern but his voice remaining quiet. “You are embarrassing yourself and your lady at this table in my home. You are disrespecting my future wife and you are insulting my son and heir.” Cineas continued as his eyes narrowed in the direction of the blonde male. “If you continue to act as a spoiled child I will prevent you from ever seeing Elenay'a and lock you in the dungeon myself.”
Elenaris found herself resting her head into her hand, the tips of her finger holding her up. “I must agree with Lord Duskhollow on the matter. I was hoping the four of us could come together without quarrel but alas, seems you seek trouble in everything you do, Eli’yon.” Eleney’a took a large sip of wine from her glass and sighed heavily as she set it down. “I think we should simply get to what we came here to discuss and move on. While I respect you, Lord Duskhollow, you must understand the surprise that all this news comes to me as. It was hardly to be expected and as Elenaris will stand for you, I must say that I do not appreciate assumptions being made of me and Eli’yon. So perhaps now that the harsh words have been thrown, we can move beyond this?”
Eli'yon seemed to quiet for the moment and Cineas had retaken his seat as the only thing to be heard was the sound of his chair moving forward once more on the marble floor. “And now that we've all settled,” Cineas concluded as he indulged himself in a rather large gulp of the wine. “The main purpose of you both being here in our presence is to discuss your relationship entirely. As Elenaris and I find ourselves to be traditionalists.” He took a breath as he placed the glass down and once more returned his attention to Elenay'a. “You sister does not make false assumptions on the matter. It is clear and evident that you and the Mister Starfury have a relationship of nature. You are living with him. I am simply requesting that some committed factor occur or I request you return to the Eventide Estate.”
A heavy sigh was released through Eleney’a’s nostril. “My residence is no longer the Eventide Estate, Lord Duskhollow. It hasn’t been for some time since I left with my brother in his travels.” She then looked to Eli’yon, feeling a bit unable to speak for the two of them because even she was unsure of their status and goals. “There has not been talk of union or plans of marriage between the two of us, as it stands we enjoy our relationship the way it is. Simple, without expectations really.” By now Elenaris had lifted her head, the maid came by to refill the glasses of wine and for once Elenaris denied as her fingers rubbed her temple softly.
With his attention on Elenaris, his hand moved to lightly rest within his lap. “We will discuss more important formalities later,” he concluded regarding the younger pair’s relationship and he indulged himself with another glass of wine. “Your sister has been under immense stress lately and we wish to not jeopardize Arrynn in any way. If we can all act like adults, let us eat otherwise Ebonheart will show you to the stables to eat with the animals.”
Elenaris shook her head, smiling over to Cineas as he seemed concerned for her health. “I’m okay, this needs to be taken care of… it is only a headache, it will pass.” She replied before Eleney’a spoke up in a softer tone. “Arrynn?” The younger woman’s gaze lowered to Elenaris’s midsection, a gentle smile gracing her features. “After our brother.” Elenaris looked to her sister and nodded once, understanding that Neya’s connection with Arrynn was short lived but hers was one of the deeper relationships she had with anyone. “Yes, my pearl, after our brother.” She then looked over to Eli’yon as he had become rather quiet. “So, are we able to discuss this properly or will you be taking Lord Duskhollow’s latter offer?”
Cineas watched the exchange of the women in regards to the name they had settled on for their son. While it held sentimental meaning to Eleney’a and Elenaris, Cineas simply regarded it as that being his son, his heir. Though his attention flicked to the younger male as he awaited his response with a certain sense of curiosity. “I do this for Neya’s expense and not of either of your own. I don't care for your flaunted relationship or child.”
“We are not here to flaunt anything, Eli’yon, truly. Simply we need to gauge your intentions and go from there but it was necessary to make grounds with Lord Duskhollow to ensure we were all on the same page of understanding who he is and who he is to become. Now, what are the two of you planning?” Elenaris continued on, lifting a glass of water to her lips before she licked the somewhat chapped skin due to her stress.
Eli'yon glanced across the table at the younger woman as he huffed loudly. “We have not seriously discussed marriages or unions,” he spoke as his gaze refused to indulge either Elenaris or Cineas. He sat back in his chair as his arms folded across his chest tightly. “With the possibility of me suddenly being requested to Argus such things did not seem right.” Cineas pursed his lips as he took another sip of his wine and gestured for his glass to be refilled. “So, just so I am correct, you two are uncommitted, engaging in sexual behaviors where the younger Eventide could wind up pregnant but you see no justification of marriage because of impending war.” Cineas seemed irritated as he spoke but just huffed to himself.
Eleney’a looked across the table to Eli’yon as he spoke, her brows furrowing at the mention of his leaving to Argus and she, too, huffed. “I would say as adults, consenting adults, we have the ability to do such things if we wish to. There are ways around pregnancy and we take care with such things.” Elenaris looked between the two for a moment before she spoke up. “Have you considered the possibility? Many couples marry even with the likelihood of the male leaving to war. Let’s be honest, here, Eleney’a… you are becoming beyond of age to take your husband, do not even consider throwing my age at me as we all know my situation was different. If the two of you care for one another, you at least get along, is it not better than an arranged marriage that could land you in the arms of someone you couldn’t even stand? What other plans do you have, Mister Starfury? Surely your father wishes you to marry a rather higher ranking noble, hm? And with your elder brother taking Patriarchy of Starfury, what else does that leave you?” Her questions were not harsh but realistic, thought provoking perhaps.
“Are you insinuating that Eleney’a will be arranged to another noble should I choose not to marry her here and now?” Eli’yon finally piped up in an irritated fashion as he glanced between Elenaris and Cineas. He seemed angered but growing tired of his anger, his responses were not as sharp or as loud and his tone seemed to be at its normal octave. “That had not been considered, no.” Cineas replied before Elenaris could, his tone short and honest. He motioned for the servants to bring their plates of lunch to them as he grew tired of the finger food and took an anticipated sip of his wine. “However it is not outside the realm of possibilities here. Let us continue to be honest. Noble homes need continuation and what better way to cement our place in the registry books than with an extended, powerful noble family?” His brow rose in the direction of Eli’yon and his features seemed rather flat. Almost as if these were simple matters to Cineas. However, Eli’yon remained with his jaw clenched and his gaze unflinchingly on Eleney’a.
Elenaris had parted her lips to reply but was cut off by Cineas, inhaling deeply as she looked over to him. “Let us be realistic here. Should the two of you not wish to marry, yes it will be considered she marry another, but as Cin- Lord Duskhollow mentioned, it does not entirely mean that you must fall to a knee at this moment. All we ask if that you take Eleney’a’s station into to consideration when it comes to her future.” She paused, looking over to her sister. “We are already caving in on some of our traditions in simply allowing the option of a marriage to a lesser nobleman in general let alone one that does not embrace his nobility to any extent.” Her gaze slowly turned to Eli’yon and while her words may have seemed harsh, her tone was calm.
Cineas seemed rather relieved when the servants had returned with what was prepared for them for lunch. It seemed more akin to a dinner as he glanced over the finely cooked roast with brown gravy, potatoes and vegetables. “Lady Eventide is correct. We all need to be realistic within our situation. The Eventide family has had considerable changes within recent years due to many factors. You, as it is my understanding, are the sole remainder of this family and need to carry on that weight.” Cineas’ words were rather blunt though he continued on with his honesty as he glanced between the two younger ones. “Do your traditions also include becoming with child before marriage or do you find yourself caving on that tradition as well?” Eli’yon finally asked in an accusatory manner.
Eleney’a looked across the table to where Eli’yon sat, her features sweeping over him in a manner of understanding of how Elenaris may have made him feel. Just as she was about to speak, her sister piped in. “That tradition is none of your business as a child conceived out of wedlock simply a few months before the possible marriage is much less of an offense than the lack of marriage in general.” Eleney’a looked to Cineas and Elenaris with a clenched jaw before finally opening her words to them. “We will discuss the possibility of our union, together, just the two of us. I feel you can offer us at least that. Once our decision is made on our options, we can move forward.”
“An offense no less,” Eli’yon replied as his gaze fixated on the older woman. “So you sit here and condemn me and us for our actions yet you have a bastard in your belly?” Eli’yon managed to chuckle lightly at the hypocrisy but quickly dropped the manner when Cineas had glared at him fiercely. Something seemed to change in the blonde male, and if one could see under the tunic of Cineas, they would see that the purple runes were illuminated dimly. He was not looking for memories or wishing to destroy them, he was simply forcing the man into a place where his tongue would not get him killed. Cineas did this merely out of respect for Elenaris. Beads of sweat could begin to be visible on Eli’yon’s brow as the process became painful and uncomfortable. Cineas made a slight noise with his mouth opening and closing as his hand retrieved the fork and he let Eli’yon be. “I think we can oblige your request, young Eventide.” He spoke in a rather amused fashion as he picked at the food.
The two women overlooked the exchanged between the men, Eleney’a soon looking to Elenaris with pleading eyes to get Cineas to stop. Nothing had to be done as the elder man seemed to be through with his ploy over the younger. Elenaris nodded to them all as she too picked up her fork and went about picking at the food. “Eli’yon, we are not condemning you, we are simply asking that you hear us out and guiding you into a favorable situation.” The Lady had lowered her gaze to her plate as she allowed the rest to continue talking. “ Eli’yon… I think we can oblige them and take time for us to discuss it. I see no harm in that.” Eleney’a said as she reached across the table toward him, resting her hand nearby.
Eli’yon had taken note of the extended hand and while he hadn’t moved his to find her own, his hands were still balled into fists with the whites of his knuckles exposed, he nodded at her to inform her silently that he was alright and that he agreed with her suggestion. What exactly had Cineas done to his mind anyways? He felt rather queasy and pushed his plate away, simply requesting water. Cineas paused in his movements to allow himself a sip of the wine from his chalice and glance between the pair. “I do believe it to be rather good that you two are agreeable to our requests here. Punishing either of you was never an intention. This was to be a...happy meeting.” Cineas spoke as he moved a hand around in gestures as he spoke.
Elenaris slowly sipped from the glass of water she had in hand, placing her fork down upon the plate as she looked to Cineas. “Yes, I agree. Somewhats the things we wish for simply are not meant to be but we have to accept them. In your case, you are being given the option to make what isn’t meant to be become a reality.” Eleney’a had barely touched the food, her glass emptied of her wine and she quickly requested for more. “Despite the rise in tensions, I believe Eli’yon and I do understand the position you both are coming from. Though, I will not agree to anything but discussions and from there who knows. “
Cineas seemed to be the only one that was entirely eating and had finished most of his plate save for a potato or two. He placed his utensils on the plate and pushed it forward as he gestured for his plate to be taken away and his glass to be refilled. “Discussions are all anyone can have though I believe Mister Starfury does understand the gravity of such discussions. We are simply looking out for you, Miss Eventide and do not wish your...reputation to be called into question at all.” Cineas’ words were quiet and feigned a somewhat genuine manner. While he was honest in what he said, he was concerned about what could have possibly already been hinted at with her reputation.
The youngest nodded to Cineas once. “Somehow I doubt that is the entire truth however the sentiment is appreciated.” She stated before pushing from her seat with glass still in hand. “I believe I am going to retire for a bit of a rest. It was a rather large lunch..a lot of food and too many words.” She said coolly before looking to Eli’yon. She wouldn’t tell him to come but instead her features held the offer nonetheless. “Of course…” Elenaris replied, nodding to her and then to Eli’yon. “You may go,too.”
Eli’yon quickly rose from the table, almost as soon as Eleney’a had. He had wanted to be out of that dining hall the moment he had arrived and with her seeking solace outside of the room, he would follow her. Eli’yon would follow her just about anywhere at this point in time. He quickly met her at the end of the large table before he ushered them out of the dining hall with a large huff. The pain within his head was beyond throbbing at this point. “He will prove to be difficult,” Cineas finally stated as he continued to pick at the platters of finger foods. He was still hungry.
“As I had imagined…” Elenaris sighed as she rose a brow at him. “What has you worked up such an appetite?” She asked as she reached over for his chalice to take a sip of his wine which seemed to calm her demeanor instantly. Sliding the glass back over to him as she waited to hear his slight scorn, she placed a hand before him on the table. “My sister will work her magic, surely. I have little doubts in her if this is what she wants. Even if marriage is not in her books, she will do it to keep him...I wish I could place where this headache keeps coming from. That conversation did little to quell it.”
“I just find myself to be hungry,” Cineas replied with a shrug of his broad shoulders. Though her words were not scolding, he found himself pulling away from the platter and sitting back into the large seat more comfortably. He watched as she drank the wine though surprisingly he did not reply verbally and merely gestured the servant over to refill both of their glasses with the crimson liquid. “Do not say I never gave you anything,” he jested as he leaned forward to reach for his glass. “That conversation did more than cause headaches, I can assure you but the boy will do little in interfering with us any longer. I can assure you of that entirely.” His brow rose as he allowed himself to take a pull of liquid from the glass. “Perhaps my son is already showing his power over his mother?”
She smiled, the wine glass coming to her lips as she took a small sip only to set it aside as a hand came to rest up on her stomach. “Perhaps so…” She mused as she looked downward to where her hand laid. Her brows furrowed together, however as she looked back to him. “What did you do? ...Or plan to do?”
He chuckled quietly as he found himself comfortably settled into his seat with his wine in hand. The soothing feeling of the cool, crimson liquid entering his mouth had washed a wave of relief over him and his features resembled pure ecstasy as he settled upon swallowing. “I simply toyed with his mind somewhat,” Cineas replied with a rather evident smirk. “He is still quite fond of you. Loves you perhaps.”
Elenaris stiffened slightly as his words came and her gaze averted. “You say this out of assumption or from something you felt whilst dealing with your talents on him?” She picked up her fork once more as she seemed to fidget and poke around the food that was left on her plate before dropping it aside and pushing the plate away even further. “Despite that, I care little of his feelings or thoughts of me so long as he holds a respect towards me and my family, which includes you and our son. He has already faltered on those, save Eleney’a...though if he truly respected her, he would not hold her back from a life without union.”
“It was what I felt while in his head.” He replied as he sucked slightly on the inside of his cheek. He sat for a moment prior to allowing himself to continue to sip the liquid. “Or rather, such truths were revealed to me while I forced him to submit.” His weight shifted somewhat as he watched her actions and motions. Her averted gaze and picking at the food had caused him to grow curious but he hid that reaction quite well from her. “You still have care for him.” He spoke rather dryly as he finished his wine.
Her eyes returned to him with a soft exhales. “Care is a very endearing term and a bit too much for how I regard him.” She began as her hands came to rest within her lap. “I find it difficult, sometimes, to throw away those that may have at one time quite literally risked their lives for me. I don’t trust people often, and to trust with my well being is even less frequent, but I trusted him in both senses. Though now, I am mostly concerned with Eleney’a… if she cares for him enough to forsake her family, she’s truly fallen for him.. Perhaps not all the while knowing his feelings for me remain...and if she does know -” Her features saddened as she swallowed hard. “It is even sadder…”
He drug his tongue over the front of his teeth as he appeared to be in thought for the moment. He wasn’t sure entirely how to begin to word what was formulating itself in his mind and he simply leaned forward once more to place the empty glass onto the table. He pushed himself from the chair to begin his familiar pacing, his hues glancing around the elaborate hall. “And if he were to die?” Cineas asked as he turned to look at Elenaris. “If he goes to Argus, he will die. I am sure you are aware of that bit of information. And what of your sister then?”
“Of course I am.” She held her gaze forward even as he paced around the room. “If he goes to Argus and falls to the Legion then he will not be an issue. She will be heartbroken but she will live on. She’s done it once before. What are you getting at?” She asked, finally pulling her gaze away from the oblivion before her to find him.
He clasped his hands behind his back as he continued his pacing, though he stopped as he got towards the end of the hall. His eyes bore into the fireplace as he watched the flames rising and falling and the crackling of the wood as it burned. “How much do you love your sister?” He finally asked her as he turned to stare at her from across the room.
Slowly she pushed from the table and hesitantly began walking toward him. “Cineas,” She began, stopping just a few steps from him. “What are you getting at?” She asked in a concerned tone.
Cineas shrugged his shoulders as he turned around to face her, the feeling of the warm fire against his hands rather soothing. “What I am getting at is rather simple. The boy goes off to war, will obviously die in attempting to prove himself to something or someone. You maintain communication with Eleney’a enough to know when he leaves for Argus and the day after he does depart, we arrange a marriage to another Lord. One who takes the values of marriage on a serious note.”
“Cineas… it won’t be that simple. What if he doesn’t die? Plenty have returned alive from Argus.” She stepped closer with a sigh. “Perhaps we begin the discussion in search of another marriage but until his death is confirmed, I see no reason to make that decision. What if they come to us tomorrow having spoken to one another and agreed to a marriage in the near future?”
Cineas shrugged at her question somewhat, his features were flat and reflected little emotion. He had no dog in this fight. While he would care for Eleney’a as his own, he didn't have a reason to bend to her wants or desires. “It is that simple,” he replied in a simple manner. “Men with his attitude are the first to fall. I've sent many to their deaths and have observed many deaths myself. However,” he paused somewhat to raise a brow at her. “I am most perplexed about your...calmness regarding this whole thing. Both with your care for him and your sister.”
“Calmness? Why would I be otherwise? I have already spent my time raising my voice and concerns in regards to them. You told me I was to alleviate stress where can be and this one of those situations where it can be avoided.” She now stepped directly to his side but turned to face the roaring fireplace. “I see little reason to question me.” She stated sternly.
“I am merely observing what I see and feel,” he commented as his head turned to the side so that he was able to watch her. The way in which her face was illuminated with the fireplace had enhanced her beauty and he softened somewhat as he turned so that a hand could rest against her stomach. “I will fetch a physician to examine you regarding the headaches.”
She held her gaze upon the dancing flames as he spoke, a large rise in her chest gave way to the sigh that followed. “I’m sorry.” She said lowly and shook her head before looking at him. “I do not mean to disagree with you. Let us take this one step at a time and see where it leads us. Have plans to follow up on but only after one step at a time.” Looking down to her stomach where he rest his hand. “I think I just need to lie down...but you can send for Pyrenious if you wish to.”
Cineas softened his gaze that lay upon her stomach as his hand moved back and fourth in a comforting manner. There was no child yet, at least confirmed to them, but acting as such made him feel all the more relieved. “Ebonheart,” Cineas called loudly as he waited for the large knight to enter the room. “Please accompany Lady Eventide to our quarters and fetch Cindel as well as Pyrenious.” Cineas spoke as he gently leaned forward to press his lips to her temple. “I will check in on you shortly.”
His call had startled her slightly as she seemed to have nearly fallen asleep in a sense as she eased into the warmth of the fire. “Very well, my love.” She leaned into him slightly as he kissed her, lingering a moment as it seemed she didn’t entirely want to leave his side but did so anyways to disappear into the hallways and eventually to bed.
She had seen and tasted cake after cake, scrutinized multiple place and table settings, felt and admired multiple fabrics, and still she felt the work was no where near complete. Planning events and soirees was a talent that ran through her blood in many thanks to her mother but also with her father’s need to show off their wealth and class, it came naturally. However, this was no measly party, but the concept of making a show was still the same.
Cineas, of course, had very little of a hand in it all. His requests were made that the two joining house colors were represented in some fashion throughout the theme of the ceremony and reception. He had an eye design, which was a surprising feature of the Lord considering the dark and dreary decor that adorned his noble home and even more with his matching personality. While Elenaris was the first and final say on decisions, he did offer his input on options that were offered to him.
The couple had similar tastes in most things which made for easy agreements to certain aspects. It was truly a handsome and prosperous match, little expense was to be saved on the grand event and neither of them would have it any other way. Time was ticking down and the final touches were soon to be placed. A union to be made for the ages.

[ RP snippet between @cineas-duskhollow and myself. These dark and moody nerdlings are doing the thing!]
Elenaris had never really been one for meditating, though some might consider what she had seemed to take to doing to be just that. During her time at Ravenhill, she slowly began to find herself developing a new daily and nightly routine, new activities or enjoyments in her new home. One of which had been the rose gardens. She found a certain comfort in her state to not only walk among the delicate bushes but to find a nice and quiet corner of the gardens and just sit among one of the few benches or chairs that had been set out for her. Today, she had packed up a small bag with her embroidery needles, yarn, and a small handkerchief that she had been designing a crest that embodied both Duskhollow and Eventide. A gentle hum came through pressed lips as she went about easily working on the project as she enjoyed the slight fall chill in the air.
His gaze had settled on the overcast sky as the sun attempted to peak through the clouds in a futile attempt at bringing some sort of brightness to Ravenhill. His hands were tucked familiarly behind his back and his breathing slowed as he focused on the content of his thoughts. He had been through much lately, they had been through much. It was enough to make anyone want to seek solace enough to attempt to clear their thoughts. He had been to himself for a large portion of that day however and his mind and body yearned for her company in the ways that it usually had. He released a large sigh as he turned away from the grand window and headed towards where he had tended to find her most. He whistled loudly when he arrived at the gardens and his hand moved through the pathway. “My love?” He called as his eyes glanced around so that he could attempt to find her.
The high pitch of the whistle startled her just enough to cause a gentle prick of her finger through the fabric of her needlework. “Fel…” she cursed softly before going about tidying her things and as the finger rested delicately between her lips as she nursed the tiny puncture. “Yes, Cineas?” Elenaris replied as she calmly made her way from her little corner to meet him at the garden’s entrance. She still held her fingertip between her lips as she showed her presence, most of the things were packed away in a bag that draped over her shoulder and her embroidered circle held in her opposite hand.
His movements had paused when he arrived to a center point of the garden that broke off into various other extremities and housed different types of flowers. Mainly different color variations of roses. The newest section was home to his newly acquired and slowly growing collection of starlight roses. The visage of her appearing had caused a light smile to grace his features as he turned to face her head on. His eyes quickly caught the image of her fingertip between her lips and he moved closer to her. “Are you hurt?” He questioned as his hands moved forward to request that she offer him her hand.
Though she gave a soft huff, she offered her hand to him. There was the tiniest point of red upon her skin, hardly even noticeable. “Your call caught me a bit off guard, I was working on something.” She lifted the nearly finished handkerchief that held the sigil and an elegant A stitched into the fabric. “It is really just a small prick.” She waved off the incident and moved on to seeing what he had come to her for. “Did you need me?”
One of his hands held hers within his palm as the other hovered over it after examining it for a moment. A purple hued cloud began to form at his fingertips and swirled around her injured fingertip until the magic had seemed to be sucked into her wound and disappeared. The finger would be weakened for a day or two, as was the course of their dark magic, but was as good as a healer could do. Her pulling away from him had caused him to startle momentarily and he stepped back as his hands moved to clasp behind his back. “I did, yes, however if you are occupied it can wait until later. Business has slowed and I seem to have a plethora of time on my hands lately.”
She shook her head and simply went about tucking the small project into the bag with the rest of her things after having inspected her finger briefly. “No, I am hardly preoccupied, simply dabbling in a side hobby.” As she lifted her gaze from the bag to him, she offered a smile. “I am at your disposal, my dear.” Her hands held out to her sides as she continued to hold her smile to him.
His smile returned somewhat as she tucked her items into her bag and he gestured for her to sit along one of the stone benches that lined the garden. “Well I would not like to dispose of you, love,” he commented with a hint of a chuckle as he sat down along the bench and rested his forearms along his thighs. “Do you still have that crystal I bestowed upon you that night in Silvermoon when you provided me with this?” He asked as his line of sight shifted to the Eventide ring that rested upon his left, ring finger.
She gave a soft chuckle as she hook her head at his ‘joke’. “Well, I would hope not.” She retorted as they both took to sitting down comfortably to the bench nearby. Her head tilted slightly at his question but as he asked, a hand lifted to remove the crystal from his hidden place behind the fabric of her gown. “I do.” Her gaze fell then to the ring she had gifted him. The most precious gift she had ever given another, in fact. “Why do you ask?”
“I do believe that it is time that I ask for the gem back,” he commented as his eyes took note of her own, gauging her reaction of the statement. He was unsure how she would take such things entirely but the gift of the gem was only temporary. It was a placeholder for other things that were to come, better things. His hand pulled away from his thigh so that he was able to reach into his pocket and remove a small, crafted box. “This is long overdue, but situations have impacted my ability to focus on its creation,” he spoke softly as his fingers pushed the top of the box open to reveal the finely crafted ring with the crystal center stone. His fingers removed the ring from the box and he placed the box beside him on the bench. “Elenaris Eventide, would you solidify this union and marry me?”
Her brows furrowed together as he further mentioned the gem, his request to have it returned to him. “Wha-” She had begun to reply with a question of her own, however, her attention had been pulled away further from his ring now to the one he hand plucked from the small box that had been tucked in his pocket. Her lower lip fell slightly from her upper in slight surprise but they soon pressed together once more to form a bright smile. Elenaris’ gaze washed over the elegant ring, taking in it’s beauty and craftsmanship and her hand fell from the gem that hung around her neck to rest a palm against her chest. “I would be happily honored, my love.” She replied with a light tone. The element of surprise had been there, though it was an expected thing that would be around a corner sooner or later for them having planned their union. Nonetheless, she was elated, relieved to have a happier chapter of their lives begin to take hold and she reached over to place her hand upon his.
There was hesitation for a moment as he paused and waited for her reaction. He had expected her reaction to be something positive, despite their rockiness lately, and he was not disappointed with what she had offered him in terms of agreement. Her hand placed upon his own had caused his palm to turn over and his fingers to loosely wrap around the edges of her hand. His fingertips that held the ring carefully slid the object onto her ring finger and he had admired it for a long moment. “I trust that we will begin preparations for the ceremony shortly then?” He asked in a slightly upbeat manner as he brought the back of her hand to his lips so that he was able to brush his lips against it.
A deep breath came as she lifted to look at him, her hands cupping each cheek gently as her gaze moved over his features. As the green orbs finally fell to his own, hooking his attention onto her, she smiled faintly. “My dear Cineas…” She whispered, her lips lingering apart as it seemed she had more to say. And she did. “...you should know… I love you…” Quite still in her slightly drunken state but ever aware, it seemed to be a statement clearly thought out but offered briskly due to her hesitant usage of the phrase. Her lids narrowed as she sought out any slight change in his mannerisms.
It had taken him a moment to register exactly what was said. Love was an entirely hard thing for Cineas to comprehend. It wasn’t that he didn’t feel love, he did. He loved his mother in the capacity that he could. He loved his books and his hobbies. Other people had been a difficult understanding in the way of love. Her hands on his cheeks would be able to feel the blood that had rushed underneath his flesh in the heat of the moment and his emerald hues slipped closed. “My Raven Queen,” he said once more as his eyes opened and his hand moved to rest under her chin. “I love you with all that I am.”
[ Another RP Snippet/collab with @cineas-duskhollow....this is a good one. PT. 1]
He had found himself staring intently at the silver pocket watch that remained in the palm of his hand. The continuous ticks were something that brought calm to his being as a hard swallow was the only thing that he could hear aside from the ticking. When Cineas had left her in the early hours of the morning, a hastily scrawled note was left the nightstand next to her bed asking her to meet him that day at his estate. He had seen hers and been extended the opportunity to temporarily lodge with her, he could do the same.
The Sin’dorei had appeared to take extra care in his presentation, something that was not far from the truth in general but had gone even further at this time. He was freshly shaved, the familiar stubble nowhere to be seen and his hair had been trimmed and styled with wax to keep it firmly in place. He wore one of his finer suits, though nothing over the top. It's coloring was black, even his dress shirt and tie were ebon in color.
The carriage he had sent for her and Cindel should had been arriving any moment. While time was somewhat of a figment to him, he had attempted to perfectly time her arrival. He nodded briskly to himself as he snapped the watch shut and tucked it into the pocket of his jacket. He steps were hurried but paced at the same time as he moved to stand atop the balcony of the grand staircase that greeted you as you entered Ravenhill, his hands finding the banister, as his eyes formed determined beads as they stared down the grand doorway.
The sounds of the carriage coming to a halt alerted her to their arrival. She looked to Cindel with a smile, nodding as the young mage exited first only to turn and await her Lady to step out of the small doorway. Elegant as ever, but with much less adornments upon her form, she came to standing upon her heeled shoes as the fabric of her gown flowed down to finally meet the ground below her. She lifted her gaze, taking in the details of the outside of the manor and surrounding areas. The chill in the air did little but add to the dark and somewhat eerie atmosphere of the estate, an altogether difference to her brightly decorated home. Finally her eyes came to rest upon the door that would inevitably led inside and made determined way for it. Upon approaching, the entrance would open welcomingly as she and her dear accompaniment were ushered inside.
The clicking of her heels came across the floor and echoed as she stepped inside, again her ever observant eye taking in the detail. As she gazed about, finding herself quite pleased with the estate as a whole, she drifted to look upward as she followed the large staircase to finally meet Cineas as he stood at the top awaiting for her. She said nothing in lieu of a greeting, instead lowered her head in her own fashion of a curtsey, which was something she very rarely did for anyone.
There seemed to be a pause in the entirety of the estate as Cineas could hear the sound of the door waft open. Servants had peaked their heads around corners and doorways to see entirely who their Lord had sent for. It was a rare occurrence when anyone was treated with such respect when arriving at Ravenhill. She was introduced loudly by the doorman who stood behind her and his lips twinged into somewhat of a smirk as she bowed before him.
He carried himself down the stairs in an arrogant manner, his pace seemed to be quickened as he took two steps at one time before coming to stand before her. His hand reached for her own as he brought it to his lips prior to pulling away only enough to press his lips briskly to her temple. “Lady Eventide,” he greeted as he bowed before her in a respectful manner. “You are looking fashionable as ever.”
She watched him intently during his descent, her hands folded together before her until he had plucked one from the other. A faint smile was offered to him as his lips met her skin and even further as he spoke. “Thank you, Lord Duskhollow, you are ever the charmer. But…” The same hand he had lifted in admiration now reached to trace his newly shaven features. She said nothing else save for a small playful sound of disapproval. “I thank you for your invitation.”
He chuckled quietly at her sound of disapproval while touching his face as his head shook ever so slightly. “It will grow back,” he teased somewhat and then began to lead Elenaris away from the entryway to lead her into the dining hall. It was an elaborate room with a grand mural painted into the ceiling. The mural depicted that of a battle scene, possibly a family member of his, who stood in the field emitting a holy aura. There was a pause in his movements as he halted at the chair that sat next to the head so that he could pull it out for her. “Cindel is welcome to join us if you so choose it.”
There was a slight pout that came and was fleeting regarding his lack of facial hair, but even so, she continued onward with him to the dining room. With care, she came to sitting in the chair that was offered, her palms smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress from the motion. “She will do just fine with everyone else.” She fell silent for a brief moment as she looked around the room with interest. “It really is lovely.” Her hand lifted, gesturing around as she looked to him with a smile.
Cineas had followed her gaze around the grand ballroom as he had refrained from taking the seat next to her. “Yes, I suppose it is,” he replied to her as he fixated on the figure with the holy aura. It made him scowl somewhat as his head quickly snapped to the doorway as another's presence was announced within the doorway. The woman at the end of the table began to make her way towards the empty seat that was at the opposite side of Cineas’ seat. He hurried to meet her and take hold of her arm as he led her to the seat. “Lady Eventide,” he began, “I present to you the Lady Duskhollow,” he gestured to the elder looking woman who hasn't looked all that older than the two of them save for a few wrinkles and grayed hair. The woman had waved dismissively at Elenaris, instructing her to remain seated rather than rise to greet her. “I was wondering who my son was pulling me out of estate for.” She explained with a somewhat amused tone.
Her attention was quickly and surprisingly pulled to the woman upon her announcement, she had moved to stand however refrained after being waved off. “Lady Duskhollow, quite the pleasure.” She said in greeting, her gaze flicking to Cineas with a certain gaze. She had been caught off guard and it did not sit right for her, likely something she would discuss with him later. “This is such a surprise, I apologize for having not expected your presence otherwise I would have brought something for the occasion.”
The Sin’dorei male had settled into the chair that was designated for him after the introductions had settled and a servant had come around to serve them with a glass of wine each. Cineas quickly downed his own and requested another to follow, along with the drinks to continue as glasses became low. “Gifts are not necessary,” he excused and waved slightly at Elenaris. His mother had given him a slight look before smiling slightly at Elenaris. “I would be so brave to say that your presence is a gift, Lady Eventide, as Lord Duskhollow does not allow many visitors to this estate.”
Elenaris furrowed her brow, pursing her lips at him as he retorted. She shook her head, accepting the wine and lifting to sip from it gingerly before smiling over to the elder. “You are rather sweet, Lady Duskhollow, thank you. I suppose I should consider myself quite lucky, then.” Her gaze drifted back to Cineas, her brows raising questioningly as she looked him over.
He felt somewhat cornered by the two of them, certainly not at Elenaris’ own doing but his mother playing the mastermind as she always had. His gaze had fallen on Elenaris as he continued to nurse his glass of wine. The buzz he was searching for had not began to form yet. “I enjoy my privacy and tend to retreat to my estate to bask in such things. Is that such a sin?” He questioned both women, looking between them with narrowed eyes.
“No, I don’t believe so, though seclusion can lead to some very unappealing things of the mind, dear.” Elenaris stated as she lifted a hand to tap to her temple before taking another generous sip of her wine. A soft hum came as she then turned her attention to the other female.
Cineas had watched her actions with a certain sense of amusement as his lips fought to tug into a smile and a muted chuckle was present as he refused to part his lips to allow it to sound. He had shifted slightly within his chair so that his gaze could naturally fall on the blonde at his side. “Lady Eventide,” the elder’s voice had caught Cineas slightly off guard and he craned his neck somewhat to look over at his mother. “What is your business with my son? As I am no fool, he has spent a great many years devoting himself to activities that have not allowed him the luxury of a woman’s company.”
Her gaze flicked between the woman and her son, lips tugging into a grin before she found herself chuckling. She reached for her drink once more before allowing them the pleasure of a reply. “Forgive my brash reply, Lady Duskhollow, however I think the question would be better directed at your son for it was he who sought after me.” Meanwhile as she spoke, her attention moved between the two but eventually came to rest on the Lady once more. “I do not seek further wealth or prosperity from a man, I hold all of that on my own. However, if something comes to me with intrigue, it is hardly in my nature to turn it away. Surely we will learn in time his true intentions, hm?” While her attention held on the elder woman, her gaze glanced quickly over to Cineas in curiousity.
Emerald eyes were fixated on Elenaris as she spoke, drinking in every word that left her lips as his eyes narrowed. His hand had moved to grasp the glass of wine once again and he finished the remainder of crimson liquid in the glass before beckoning the servants to refill their glasses and begin with the serving of the first course of dinner. His posture was quickly corrected as he now moved to sit normally and his attention drifted idly to his mother as his hand moved to rest atop the table closer to where Elenaris sat. “Mother,” he began calmly. “Elenaris is here because there has been ideas of a premarital agreement discussed and I wanted for her to see my estate. An estate which in turn would become hers. You are simply here as a courtesy.” His voice was cool towards the end and he released a heavy sigh, followed by a somewhat pained, tight lipped smile as he watched his mother begin to drink from the wine glass greedily.
Syinda had finished the remainder of the wine as he placed the empty glass down and requested her glass be refilled. “Cineas, you forget that I was once the Lady of this house. The one who convinced your father to allow you back after your…” She trailed off, attempting to determine a clever way to word her thoughts. “Ailment.” An equally amused smile appeared on her face in the sense of seeming like she had given her son a checkmate before she had turned her attention to Elenaris once more. “Cineas can be a miserable man, Lady Eventide, if you had the sense that I believe you to, you would find another to enter an agreement with.”
Elenaris continued the dance of her gaze between mother and son as each of them spoke. A curious brow tweaked upward at the woman’s words but she asked nothing of them. “Well…” She began as she addressed the elder kindly with just enough abrasiveness to pin her point. “I have experienced some of his personalities, I suppose you could say. However, I believe I will take my chances, hm? He seems to be running things just fine from what I can tell, I can only imagine things will better if I chose to stay around.” With that, she lifted her glass to them both in toast while her other hand reached over to place atop the one Cineas had offered near to her as it had happened that their first course had arrived during their conversation.
Synida had taken note of their hands placed atop one another with less than visible distaste. Perhaps jealousy was what one could call it, but then again, that attribute had to be passed down to her son from somewhere. She raised her glass in unison with Cineas and they toasted as both she and Cineas finished the entirety of the glass of wine upon completion of the toast. Their first course was a soup that seemed to be rather refreshing despite the fact that it was served warm. His hand had grabbed the cloth napkin that was ebon colored and he placed it within his lap as he glanced over at Elenaris. “I was unaware of what you liked entirely, so I had the staff prepare a great many things in the event they were not to your liking.” He informed her as his hand flipped over so that his fingers could squeeze her hand affectionately. “Lady Eventide, where is it that your family attributes most of its wealth from?” Synida interjected, clearly ruining whatever moment the two might have been having.
She gave him a brief smile, nodding in thanks as her free hand had took up her spoon and went about delicately tasting the soup that had placed before her. “I am not too picky, though my thanks.” As she dipped the spoon back into the warm broth, she looked back to Synida with a raised brow. “Well, our family dates back beyond the formation of Silvermoon and the kingdom of Quel’Thalas, so our name and fortunes have been built over many years. Between the vineyards we own, my father’s previous trade business, and my mother’s eyes for design in which she offered at a high price, the cache has continuously grown. Not to mention, as well, many within my family have been members of the Silvermoon Magistrate, myself included. A lucrative job in an of itself, many opportunities and knowledge a typical citizen would not have access to.” She lowered slightly to sip from her spoon again only to place it down so that she might refresh her palette with the wine, of course, her other hand still intertwined with Cineas’.
As the others around him had began to eat the soup that had been placed before them, he too had allowed himself to indulge on the soup. It had been one of his favorites and it seemed to please him that Elenaris did not seem to dislike what had been prepared. “Her wine is very good, mother,” Cineas added and motioned towards the glasses on the table. “This is her stock, I had a shipment delivered this morning before my return.” He had given Elenaris a bit a pleased look at his comment and then returned to indulging into the soup. “And as a woman with many opportunities and wealth as you say, you’re prepared to shut yourself up in this gloomy estate? To give up all of that freedom that you have worked for?” Syndia questioned curiously, one of her greyed brows rising. “The halls of this estate used to shine with gold but it seems the new Lord has a rather dismal approach.”
“I thought the taste was awfully familiar, why am I not surprised that is what you had prepared?” She asked him rhetorically before returning her attention to Synida to respond to her. “I rather like the darkness. My own manor might hold shades of gold but the crimsons give it it’s own dark atmosphere.” A soft sigh came as she continued further. “Though I hardly plan to be shut up without freedom, as you would say. I believe Cineas knows better than to attempt anything of the like.”
A rather entertained chuckle had sounded from his lips while he had forced himself to swallow the soup quickly beforehand. His hand reached for the glass of wine to quickly take a sip to aid with clearing his throat as he brought his hand to his lips to cover a slight cough. “I was quite fancying the idea of stripping you of title and land and locking you in a wing of this maze of an estate,” he explained in a tone that Elenaris would catch as teasing. His hand had pulled away from her own and he gestured around the hall with grandeur. “The Eventide Estate is much closer to our dealings of business though I do believe we would frequent Ravenhill, would we not? The reprieve it grants from the city is most welcome.”
“And the Estate on the isle is not far enough from the city for you?” She asked, mimicking his teasing tone though she shrugged all the same. “I suppose you could try to do that, can’t say it would be the wisest thing….” She tapped her fingers along the table after his hand was pulled away. “I would say business could be held out of both, if necessary...though I could agree that time would equally be spent between both estates. Plus, we would need to visit your dear mother occasionally, no?” She asked with the fleeting image of a smirk over her lips before she turned to Synida with a smile.
Cineas had finished the little soup that was left in the bowl and dabbed the napkin to his lips before returning it to rest on the table. He leaned up slightly in his seat so that he could lean over the table ever so slightly and brush his lips against Elenaris’ temple. Synida noticed the act of affection and promptly dropped her spoon with a manner of dislike. She had wanted to like the Lady Eventide, perhaps she even did over the little time she had known her but she knew that anything or anyone that had come into contact with her son was doomed in one way or another. It was truly tragic. “I do not need your pity, Lady Eventide,” her cool tone seemed to flare. “My husband died years ago and I have found peace in the solitude. However, I will not allow some woman to be gallivanted through my husband’s halls as if he were to never exist and this house continue to deteriorate under my son’s care. This is and will always be a Duskhollow estate, it will not mesh with whatever family my husband decides to marry into.”
Elenaris fluttered her gaze over to him, mildly surprised by his affectionate ways this evening. Perhaps he was doing it with purpose in hopes of the exact reaction he received from his mother but no matter, Elenaris cared little for her rise in temper. “Is that not how it usually goes, dear Lady? The leader, male or female, dies only to be followed by their predecessor. What comes after is of little import to those that came before. Just as when my father died, I took over, it is within Cineas’ blood right to do as he pleases with his name -” She then gestured about the large hall. “And this estate. Perhaps with time, it will be my right, too, just as it will be his to have a hand within my own.” She gently pushed the bowl forward, signifying she was finished despite what was remaining. “Change is a difficult pill to swallow, though as time comes and goes, we all must accept it.”
Cineas seemed just as taken back as Synida with the words that Elenaris had spoken. He sat back in his seat and motioned for the servants to come and clear their bowls and bring in the main course of their dinner. “Lady Eventide will do what she will with these halls when they become her own,” Cineas said firmly, almost as if he was alluding to what was going to become of their future. His tone carried a certain sense of dominance that he seemed to always carry but seemed more implied now that he was exercising his own set of power. Synida sighed somewhat as a hand moved to her breast to collect herself. “Lady Eventide, such fire will do nothing but bring you harm,” she replied as her hand fell away and her elbows rested on the table to lean forward moreso. “You do not seem much different in age from my son and yet here you are seeking a marriage? Perhaps if you had learned to hold that tongue, you would have had your intertwined house years ago.”
“My tongue has gotten me where I am today, and for what it’s worth, your son seems to enjoy it on more than one occasion.” A fingertip swirled around the top of the wine glass as she hummed softly. “My house has thrived on it’s own, I was not in need of a man, marriage, or otherwise to carry me anywhere further. If I chose so, we could continue on without my marriage to another, however I’m sure you understand personal gain and… personal needs. I am a rather classy lady, which I wager you are as well and were in your past youth, I make decisions based on many options and things laid before me. Your son being one of those things now and coming at a most opportune time as I have taken the time to retire from battle and the tiresome ordeal of it all.” She finally lifted the glass to her lips, the wine edging her to continue. “Lady Duskhollow, I truly mean you no harm or distaste, however your house does now belong to your son to do as his wishes and trust me, he will hardly find a better match than myself. It is for the best of him and your line.”
The continued onslaught of the exchange had Cineas finding himself rather perplexed. The women continued going back and fourth with exchanges of verbal power and he had found himself mostly quiet save for quiet quips here and there. “Lady Eventide,” Synida began in an all too familiar tone to Cineas. It bordered on too kind and was clearly mocking. “I need not know of your oral endeavors to rope my son into whatever agreement the two of you established, however, things have changed since my youth but I am fairly certain you will do nothing for my line so long as you continue to do things with your mouth.” She chided coyly and sat back in her seat, eagerly accepting the servant who had brought their courses of dinner. It seemed to be a finely cooked roast and vegetables that were common to their people. Cineas waved the servant away, declining the meal that was placed before him as he asked for the large pitcher of wine to be brought to him, clearly speechless and whatever this meal had turned into.
She found herself chuckling softly as she, too, was perplexed at the current situation. “Then perhaps it is not your line I’m concerned with, but Cineas’ in the end. Besides, it won’t matter for you much longer, hm?” As the servant was also waved away by her, she turned to look to Cineas apologetically. “I believe that while your intentions were grand, that it might be my time to take leave back home. Maybe in a few years I can return to a more… quiet and relaxing estate.” Elenaris hinted at something, glancing back to Synida with a nod.
When Synida had opened her mouth to speak once more, Cineas had slammed his fist down onto the table, causing all of the flatware to jolt in a loud clang. “Enough!” He shouted, directed at the both of them but his gaze had fallen on his mother. “Am I not able to enjoy a meal in my own home or is this a right I’ve resigned myself to unknowingly?” He asked, his question rhetorical as he pushed himself from the chair and swiped the pitcher and his empty glass into his grasp. “Lady Eventide, as the sun has set already it is much too dangerous for you to travel back to your estate. I will have someone prepare quarters for you and Cindel for the night and you may take your leave in the morning if you wish.” His gaze had quickly darted to the blonde at his side, his glare only softening slightly. “As for you, mother, Ebonheart will escort you back to your wing of the estate when you feel yourself full from the meal and we will discuss tonight’s happenings when I find myself controlled enough in the coming days.” He released a heavy sigh as he pushed himself away from the table and briskly removed himself from the dining hall.
Elenaris stiffened slightly at the abrupt sound, lowering her gaze briefly before looking up to him. As she watched him take his leave, she pushed herself from her chair and finished the wine that was left in her glass. “It was sincerely a pleasure meeting you, Lady Duskhollow.” She offered, lifting her chin to the woman as a gesture that differed from the bow she had given Cineas some time before. She spun around, gracefully but briskly following after the now rather frustrated Lord in hope of catching up to him.
The sound of quickly moving heels were the only thing that seemed to deter him from his hastened pace up the grand staircase. He knew full well that his mother couldn’t move at that pace which had given way to knowing that it was Elenaris who had stormed off after him. “You wish to not continue your discussion with the Lady Duskhollow?” He asked as his back rested against the banner of the balcony. He had idly poured himself a glass of the chilled wine as he sipped it slowly. The setting of the sun had made the estate look even more gloomy than it was during the day and the halls ahead of them appeared to be eeire with the dim lighting that did not provide much in way of helping with seeing where to go.
“No…” She replied quietly, sighing in frustration of her own. “I feel I have ruined your evening.” Her lips pressed together as she stopped just before him. “I have never been good at holding my thoughts when battered with- that. Perhaps I could make it up to you someway?” She asked sincerely, finally looking up to him .
He eyed her slowly, watching as she came to stand before him. Her features were much less detailed with the lack of lighting but at this point, he had her features memorized when he closed his eyes. “You mean with your mouth as you so eloquently told my mother?” He questioned as he couldn’t help but release a huffy laugh.
The attempts to stifle her laughter completely failed as he allowed his own. She stepped up closer to him, a finger trailing down his arm as she continued to gaze up to him. “If that is what it will take for you to forgive me.” While she had been laughing before, she was sincere to a fault at this point and despite her having felt utterly in the right in the previous conversation, she was attempting to let her walls down. “Though, perhaps it best I simply retire to bed for the evening and see my way home as the sun rises. Again, my dear, I apologize for having caused you stress.” With this, she turned to step away, her initial plans were to find Cindel so they may ready for bed.
