I am totally the same way wrt being impatient and needing to see changes instantly, it's so annoying lol always reminding myself that it's not like nothing's changing, it is it's just slow and sure. coincidentally, today was my first day back at the gym since october after i completely fell off every wagon last summer so here's to us!!! we can do it!!!
(and i could not for the life of me find your second reply on my dash so i couldn't copy and paste it and w/e at screenshotting on a laptop so. anyway. pretend that's here and i'm replying to both.)
and yeah, like! i can definitely feel a difference in the sense that, y'know, to begin with 20 reps of something was a challenge and i had to break it into two sets of ten, and now it's like, oh wait, i did four sets of fifteen!!! which is pretty cool, really, it's just not visible and i'm still kinda checking the mirror like "yeah, okay, but when" lol. and it’s...totally unrealistic, it's only been like a week i need to chill, but. i know it's a slower process but it also sneaks up on you (i.e. one day your pants are suddenly falling down) but. siiigh.
i guess right now i'm mostly concerned that i'm not actually effectively doing anything, as silly as that might sound, because i've been doing similar exercises pretty consistently on a daily basis (adding or subtracting things as i feel, but y'know) and there's so much conflicting information online about efficacy -- like, this is the wrong way to do this! no wait, this is the wrong way! you should work out every day! no wait, every other day! no wait, do different things different days! no wait! and i'm like...hello...i just wanna grow some muscles and lose some fat...why. it's kinda like i want that thing they have for baby milestones -- like if everything is okay, you should be able to do x after y amount of time, and if that doesn't happen, you should adjust z and add q. right? i gotta figure that doing it at all is generally better than not doing it (because i literally went from zero to sixty, tbh), but. y’know.

rest days are very important for muscle growth and repair, but that doesn’t mean you need to rest every time you’re sore. if you train different muscles than the ones that are sore, it’s okay to work out when still sore as long as you have regular days off :)
a good thing to know, thank you! tbh i'm still in this phase right now where i'm like. uhm. i can do more, which is an observable result, but i'm not seeing anything, obviously, so i wanna just. fuckin' kill it every day so that it goes faster and i feel like if i have a whole day where i don't do anything then it's somehow wasteful, like. i realize that's.......not necessarily...the way it works...but. maybe i gotta start doing that thing everyone else does where it's leg day/arm day/whatever day because right now i'm just like...rrraAAHHHH!!! look at me doing all the things!!!
(or, it's less than two months before i leave for toronto for a week, and my basic idea is to have as much observable progress as is possible in that time frame. lmaooo. it probably won't be a lot but i'm tryin'. i gotta goal, yo.)
