Devil You Know | Maeve&Gene

Although the Solstice party was loud and disruptive, Maeve had found herself a nice spot in the sand and popped in her earphones, letting X Ambassadors drown out the noise. With the sun on her and the music playing, she easily drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
Of course, all Maeve had been able to think about all day had been the fight she had booked for tomorrow night, so that is where her mind went the moment she was asleep. Even though she knew the fight was in Chicago, her past came back knocking in the form of the first gym she went to when she first starting learning self defense. The music followed her into her dream, muffling what would have been the fight’s announcement and the crowd full of familiar faces.
The person across the ring from her had half the features of the person she knew she was preparing to fight and half of her own, which gave her an unsettling feeling in her stomach as she waited for it all to start. And yet it never did. Maeve tried to move her feet and her body stayed completely still, frozen in anticipation.
‘The devil you know, the devil you know, the devil you don't Cause better to know the devil you know, the devil you don't, Cause wherever you go, wherever you go, With the devil you know you never alone...’
“A little too appropriate, don’t you think,” her dream self said aloud, as there was nothing else she seemed able to do but mock her own choice of soundtrack.
