Deep Space Nine’s round windows make space feel enormous.
Square windows, like in some shuttlecrafts, seem like a picture frame around a nice painting of some stars. They make it feel like the stars have been collected into a neat little box.
The round windows... something about them impresses the sheer enormity of space on you. The emptiness and vastness of space, not the darkness; the heat and terror of the stars, not the brightness. The round windows don’t let you feel like an observer; you are a life-form in a little metal-and-glass dish.
