Ave Satanas, friends! We at the Circle of the Fallen have a new winter-time event this year! Read our Archivist's latest message on it!
DECEMBER 5TH: SATANIC KRAMPUSNACHT
Holiday Greetings to all!
This is a difficult time of year for many a Satanist. Perhaps you live in a Christian household and you’re going to be forced to partake in traditions you find stifling and uncomfortable. Perhaps you have no Satanic community around you to hold close during the winter months. Perhaps you’re feeling a distinct lack of holiday cheer because, unlike so many organized religions, we have no official winter holiday of our own.
We get it, and we want to provide for our community as best we can. For this reason, on December 5th, we will be hosting a fun, low-key Krampusnacht celebration for the entire community to partake it! The festivities will include:
A 24 hour group call, which will include a cozy stream of a fireplace in order to give us all the feeling of sitting in our Satanic living room together, hanging out and sharing in the good times. No matter your time zone or availability, you are welcome to grab a festive drink or treat and hop on to hang out with everyone.
An optional ritual honoring Krampus and the winter season. This ritual will have no set time, but the instructions will be released in advance so that you can decide if and when you want to partake in it. It will be simple to do, accessible for folks without ritual materials, and possible to do together on call or individually for those folks who prefer privacy.
Gift giving! Small digital gifts will be passed out by staff members, and you are also welcome to participate by creating little sketches, digital stickers, icons, wallpapers, or whatever other items you like. Pass them out to whoever wants one!
We now have a Krampus shrine in the official discord, and all are welcome to leave offerings to him there (his favorite is schnapps!)
Why adopt Krampusnacht as a Satanic holiday?
To be clear, Satanic Krampusnacht is not the same as traditional Krampusnacht, so if you are familiar with the holiday as it is usually celebrated, please don’t assume we’re trying to emulate that same experience here.
I admit, this one’s a personal choice of mine - I haven’t met any other Satanists who celebrate Krampusnacht. On a personal level I chose it as my winter holiday because Krampus felt like an easy demon to rework into a Satanic figure. Like Satan himself, he encourages indulgence and deals out punishment. However, since I’m aware that drinking liquor isn’t the most universal form of celebration, and I personally have a significant distaste for the punishment of children, I reworked both of these associations, and I consider Krampusnacht to be a night to enjoy oneself (in whatever form that takes) and to wish ill upon one’s enemies. Yes, to me, Krampusnacht is a holiday for cursing those who wronged you!
We felt that Krampusnacht was an appropriate day for a CotF holiday because of its timing (December 5th falls more or less in the middle of the Thanksgiving-to-New-Years rush) and because Krampus is a demonic twist on Christian holiday cheer, which felt appropriate. If you’re not a fan of Krampus as a figure, you’re still welcome to show up to the group call and hang out with us, you can skip the ritual and shrine offerings if you want!
