So long.

  Some very unfortunate news came to me just now. Today, I heard that Reggie Moore from Circus Harmony passed away last week, October 25 2013, in a car crash.

  I met Reggie at the American Youth Circus Organization Festival this year in Seattle, WA. Before I went, I only ever known circus performers from Portland. I was so excited to be surround by people my own age loving the circus with as much enthusiasm as me. I was really shy to introduce myself to anyone because the only people I knew were in the Circus Project with me.

  Zoe introduced me to Reggie, who was quite tall, 6'6", and was very energetic. We hit off really well. Whenever I saw him at the festival, we would talk and hang out. He even introduced me to his friends, which helped me get to know people. He was a base in partner acrobatics, as am I, and we traded stories about our basing experience. I remember at the conference, one of the speaker spoke praise for people who were bases. Reggie and I cheered the loudest.

  I remember standing back stage for the festival show where I was performing my solo, talking to Reggie and trying to get myself to relax. He filled me with so many words of encouragement, that I honestly don't think my performance would have been as good as it was that night without his comfort.

  After the conference, we connected on Facebook and he started a group called New Company, where he brought people together to come up with a new circus troop. He had so much ambition and drive and I loved it. He pushed me to keep trying and to keep improving.

  I didn't know him as well as others, but I will never forget him. My heart goes out to his family and Circus Harmony. I miss him very much.

Circus Harmony would flip for a new vehicle. No, really -- watch those kids. Circus Harmony (on Twitter as @circusharmony) helps kids build character and gain confidence through circus skills. The group also is competing for a new car today in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good campaign.

Toyota 100 Cars for Good is giving away 100 vehicles over 100 days to organizations in need. Five organizations compete each day; votes submitted via Facebook determine the winner. Circus Harmony could use a new vehicle to haul equipment and transport performers.

Circus Harmony needs your vote now. It is competing against Bed Stuy's Project Re-Generation in Brooklyn, N.Y., Boys and Girls Club of Rosebud in Mission, S.D., CHS-Hutton House of Modesto, Calif., and Haven Homeless Shelter for Families and Women in Spartanburg, S.C. Log in to Facebook and go to Toyota 100 Cars for Good; voting is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. CDT, and the winner will be announced tomorrow.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank, Mission: St. Louis and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Metro St. Louis already have competed for cars in this contest.
