Circus
Adam had left his previous job because he had clashed with his boss over a certain subject. Having only a few hundred dollars saved up he needed a new job and he needed it fast. That’s when a new circus came through town. Doesn’t hurt to try right?
He dressed in casual wear and walked up to the office door of the grand ring master. Knocking twice and standing up straight he waited for an answer.
The door swung open and there was a man sitting at a desk. He was a strange looking man but he wasn’t even the strangest thing in the room by far. There were shrunken heads, jackalopes, and other crazy items all over the room. The man had shaggy blonde hair, blue eyes, and a solid black suit with a top hat. He was tapping a cane against the floor. The cane was solid black, a crow skull on the top, and had a red ribbon wrapped around the rod. “Come in.” He said with a smile.
Adam cleared his throat, smoothed down his shirt and stepped inside. “Erm… Mr. Crowley?” he asked tentatively.
Crowley patted Adam’s shoulder and snagged his collar, tugging it a little and suddenly a crow flew out, cawing and landing on a bird skull across the room.
Adam smiled at the bird and looked up at Crowley “So you are him” he chuckled. “I was erm… I wondered if you had any spaces… jobs I mean?”
Crowley walked over to the bird and rubbed it’s neck. “How much experience do you have?”
Adam became a little more nervous as he looked down at his hands “I worked at a stationary circus in town for 7 years. Just cleaning things and being a kinda handy man” he nodded and looked up at him. “But I’m no performer” he laughed a little breathlessly.
Crowley sat back down in his chair, narrowing his eyes in thought. “So why not get a regular job?”
Adam looked up, a little shocked at the question “I guess I like the circus scene” he shrugged.
“Mmhhm…and why should I hire you? You don’t exactly have anything I need…” He hummed.
“Well like I said I’m a good handy man. I can do most things like fix stuff, cook, help out with rehearsals and stuff… and to be honest I really do need a job and wouldn’t fit in anywhere else” he frowned and bit his lip.
“You’re hired.” He said with a shrug.
Adam smiled up at him and nodded “Thank you so much… should I” he rubbed the back of his neck. “I don’t want to assume anything of course but shall I be renting a trailed from you or…?” he raised an eyebrow in question.
“I buy campers and give them to my employees for no price. Part of the job.” He shrugged. “But you’ll be responsible for driving it. Get lost and you lose your job.”
Adam nodded in appreciation “Of course… thank you, again” he smiled and stood up. “When would you like me to start?”
Crowley looked down at his watch. “The show starts in an hour…you are to sit in the front row. If I gesture to you you have to immediately hurry to me. Then afterwards you’ll have to clean up.”
“Excuse my forwardness but what would you be needing help with from me during the show?” he asked thoughtfully, tilting his head.
“If something goes wrong we might need your help.” He said with a very serious tone. “We have lions in one act…with animals there are always things that can go wrong.”
Adam mentally kicked himself for being so stupid “of course… sorry, I wasn’t thinking” he bit his lip and chanced a glance up. “I’ll get my things and be back in an hour then?” he asked.
“Enjoy yourself.” Crowley stood up and walked back over to the crow.
Adam smiled and waved a thank you as he left. The bus journey itself took up 30 minutes of time but it was okay because Adam didn’t have many belonging’s. He was fast to pack his clothes and other little trinkets in too a large duffel bag. He arrived back on site as everyone was going in to the tent, paying for the tickets or making a last minute toilet dash. Adam found an enclosed place between the folds of the main tent to dump his bag for the time being and headed inside. He shuffled to the front, finding a seat and sat down waiting for the show to starts.
After about ten minutes of sitting there Crowley came out in a red suit with black pinstripes. He stopped in the middle and grinned at the crowd, tapping his cane against the ground. “Welcome ladies and gentlemen. You’re in for a wonderful treat tonight. We have a new act for you that we’re going to start off with for you. Welcome the beautiful! The wonderful! The amazing sorceress Kate!” He said, holding his arm up and slinking to the side. A girl with crazy red hair and a ratty black dress came out as Crowley dropped into the chair beside Adam. “I’m happy you made it.”
“It’s my job right?” he asked, eyes still fixed on Kate.
Crowley nodded. “We’re like a family here. We all eat together, we have daily meetings, we travel together. You’ll need to meet everyone. That’s Kate…she’s new, she’s a witch. Does some pretty fairly impressive magic…although nothing quite as impressive as the things I can do.” He grinned and looked back to Kate just as she made an orange turn into an orange tabby cat.
“Everyone?” he squeaked eyes focusing on Crowley. “You want me to meet everyone? even the performers?”
“You’re the only person who works for me that doesn’t preform.” Crowley said with a smirk. “Everyone takes care of their own act and helps wherever it’s needed.”
Adam looked a little shocked as he turned back to Kate “I assumed it was like the other place. Performers… and the guys who clean up” he shrugged. “Sorry for making the assumption” he mumbled.
“I’ve never had anyone offer to clean for me.” He shrugged. “So we always do it this way…I’m sure someone will come down here to help you though.” He grinned and jumped to his feet as Kate took a bow and the crowd went wild. Crowley raised an eyebrow and looked around. “Wasn’t she marvelous? Next we have a fan favourite…and a favourite of my own.” He grinned as Ari rolled her eyes off stage. “ARI!” He took a bow and ran to the side, falling back down into the chair as Ari started pulling people out of the crowd. “That’s Ariana…don’t go after her…she’s a firecracker.” He chuckled.
Adam blushed slightly “Oh no… She’s erm… She isn’t my type. But she seems to be a lovely lady and performer” he smiled.
Crowley laughed. “She really is wonderful…” He grinned as the crowd went wild over Ari’s trick.
“How many people do you have performing tonight?” he asked, keeping his eyes on Ari.
“7…but Mina and Maggie are in an act together.” He said with a smirk.
“What do they do?”
Crowley held up a finger and jumped to his feet as Ari took her bow. He rushed up to her and wrapped an arm around her, kissing her cheek. Ari slapped him and rushed off stage, causing the Crowd to go wild. Crowley pointed back at her with his thumb. “Wonderful little thing, huh?” He chuckled. “Now! For a terrifying act!” He was cut off by a lions act. He bowed and went over to Adam. “Sam the lion tamer!” He yelled before turning his mic off and looking at Adam. “You’ll see.” He grinned. “Any more questions?”
Adam shook his head “No I don’t think so”
Crowley kept jumping back and forth to show off acts. Dean the strong man, Jack the snake charmer, and Mina and Maggie who had a wild contortionist act. By the end of the show they all came out and took their bows and the crowd slowly started clearing out.
Adam slowly walked over to them looking for Crowley.
Crowley slinked into the back with Kate’s arms around his waist. He leaned her against the pillar and kissed her neck.
Adam tried to swallow his nerves caused by experiences with previous performers and went over to Mina “E-excuse me? where’s Crowley?” he asked.
Mina turned around quickly, almost naked in a tiny little body suit with her long curly hair flowing over her. “Crowley…ummm…knowing him he’s trying to get lucky right about now…who are you?” She asked with a polite smile.
Adam bit his lip and glanced around “I’m Adam… h-he gave me a job but I’m not really sure what he wants me to do” he mumbled.
“That’s Crowley for ya…always running off with girls.” She sighed but was cut off when Jack came up with a grin. “Hey! You’re the new helper right?”
Jack was certainly more his type than Ari was. Adam looked up at him and couldn’t help but smile “Yeah that would be me” he chuckled.
Jack looked at Mina. “I got this.” He said. Mina waved to Adam and walked over to talk to Maggie. “So…did Crowley show you to your camper?”
“no he just told me all your names and what your acts are” he swallowed nervously and looked down at his feet.
Jack snaked an arm around Adam’s shoulders. “Well I’ll take you up there.”
Adam smiled at him and felt himself blush a little as they started walking. “Oh hang on..” he rushed over to the small opening where he’d left his bag, pulling it out and hooking it over his shoulder. “Okay I’m ready” he nodded and walked back over to Jack.
Jack walked through the dusty camp sight and pointed to a new black camper with Adam’s name on the door. “This is yours.”
“It’s already got my name on it” he beamed running up to it and inspecting the outside.
“It’s already got my name on it” he beamed running up to it and inspecting the outside.
Jack followed him in and leaned against the door. “Wow…this is nice.”
Adam stood back up and smiled at him again “It really is isn’t it” he said, opening the door and stepping inside. The inside was just as nice as the outside, containing a little kitchen area and a decent sized bed on the back end. “Hey, come in and look at this” he called to Jack.
Jack followed behind him. “That’s a damn nice bed.” He said with a wicked grin.
Adam blushed furiously this time having actually been referring to the rather decent sized and quality tv in the other corner. “Erm… yeah I guess it is” he mumbled, looking anywhere but at Jack.
Jack took a few steps forward, placing a hand on Adam’s ass.
Adam squeaked and ended up jolting forward in to Jack. He quickly raised hands to Jacks chest and stepped back again “I-I’m sorry” he stammered, feeling very flustered.
Jack grinned and cornered Adam. “Take your clothes off.” He hissed.
Adam swallowed as he his back hit the wall “I-I’ve only just met you” he breathed out.
“I don’t care.” He mumbled. “Off. Now.”
Adam whimpered and slowly obeyed the command reaching down to the buckle of his belt.
“Ever done this before?” He said, his breath heavy.
Adam whined as he got the belt undone and grabbed the buttons “Oh yes” he chuckled.
Jack grabbed the belt from Adam. “Good…wouldn’t want to hurt you.” He said in a cruel voice. “Take your shirt off first. I wanna tie you up first.”
Adam let out a shaky breath and pulled his shirt up and over his head.
Jack shoved him onto the bed and straddled his waist, quickly tying his hands over his head. Crowley had just walked in to see the show. He smirked and cleared his throat. “Well that’s sexy.”
Adam’s eyes went from lust blown to panic stricken in seconds “C-Crowley… I wasn’t… I just…” he trailed off looking up at Jack.
Crowley laughed. “Jack…now isn’t a good time. Adam here needs to help clean up the tent.” He grinned. Jack rolled his eyes and untied Adam, storming off angrily. Crowley chuckled and stared at Adam. “I don’t recommend sleeping with Jack…he’s a nasty little thing.” He shook his head.
Adam swallowed and nodded frantically as he pulled on his shirt and replaced his belt. “I’m sorry… I couldn’t find you, and he said he’d show me my camper and…” he trailed off as he rubbed the back of his neck “I’ll go clean” he mumbled, starting to walk out towards the tent.
