Original Circus Museum Reopens
The Ringling is excited to announce that the galleries of The Original Circus Museum are now open to the public after an extensive renovation. Visitors will be able to view reinterpreted displays of historic circus wagons, costumes, and the Ringling's private railcar - The Wisconsin - in the historic galleries. "Chick" Austin, The Ringling's first director, opened the circus museum in 1948; it was the first museum in the country to document the rich history of the American Circus. Join Jennifer Lemmer-Posey, Tibbals Curator of Circus and Pullman Car Historian David Duncan for a special tour of John & Mable Ringling's first private railroad car, The Wisconsin. Our small group will learn about the Ringling life on the rails and about some of the amazing parade wagons used by the circus in the Ringling era. See the Circus through the eyes of the Ringling's experts and enjoy a luncheon program delivered by David Duncan providing even more insight into the extraordinary experience of traveling by private railroad car in the early 20th century. Sarasota is synonymous with the history of the Circus - so join us for a deep dive into our heritage.
