I think I’ve talked about Flatscreen before, but… Maribel’s powers just kept growing until she became a youkai one day without quite trying to, and thus became subject to the same belief-based existence that every other youkai is. Since nobody believed in her, she almost immediately disappeared and faded from Renko’s memories… but she’s still Maribel, so she had some minor gap hax she could use to deal with this.
So, the story itself starts off from the perspective of Renko, the president and only member of the Sealing Club, when Maribel starts showing up in TV shows and books to shout ‘RENKO, I KNOW YOU, YOU’RE MY BEST FRIEND, PLEASE TRY TO REMEMBER ME.’ (Thus the ‘Flatscreen,’ because Maribel spends about ¾ of the story talking to Renko through electronics.) I wrote literally almost the entire story–it’s about 13,000 words long, and I was approaching the final chapter when I dropped it. While doing some revisions, I realized that the story would be a bit more interesting if it had some opposition… and somewhere in the process of experimenting with that, the outline evolved into Eyes in the Dark. And that’s where Eyes in the Dark came from. Even though they’re almost completely different stories, apart from both involving the Sealing Club.
I’ve thought about finishing + publishing it a few times, but the ending I have planned for it is really depressing, so I can never quite bring myself to do so.
I have a test of virtue for you! It's easy to let hate for your enemies fester inside you, but harder to have respect for your enemies. What are things you admire about Toyosatomimi and her followers?

An interesting question there... Hm. Toyosatomimi and her four followers are all interesting fellows. I’ll use bullet points.
Toyosatomimi: A skillful leader and problem solver. I might not agree with her doctrines and her past, but she left me dumbfounded during our debate with Kanako. She has interesting ideas.
Mononobe: She was very despicable in the past. Annoying and dangerous. Now, she has managed to change thanks to the help of Kumoi. I still think she’s a cretin, but her combat abilities are astounding. Gorgeous danmaku.
Soga: I never got around to meet her. She never talked, from what I heard. She’s too silent. I can’t comment on her... But I guess she has a nice dress?
Kaku: Wicked. Terrible. Nothing redeeming about her. Next.
Miyako: Like Soga, not talkative. But I got to meet her a few times. She was a poet in her past life, and it shows: she’s very eloquent when she’s out of her typical walking dead phase. But, oh dear, she consumes a lot...
Gensokyo Festival: Celebrating Touhou!
If Desire Drive and Touhou Secret Santa are proof of anything, it’s that when the Tumblr Touhou fandom comes together, we can do really great things! So it is with great excitement that I announce the upcoming Gensokyo Festival, a Touhou content event running throughout the entirety of the month of February.
