Indonesian Muslims attend Eid al-Fitr prayers along the banks of the river Cisadane in Bogor, West Java, on May 2, 2022. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population of any country in the world with an estimated 205 million adherents—or roughly 88 percent of its population.

As part of our mission to rid the world's oceans of plastic, we've come across a lot of waste, but what do we do with it? Everything we can!

Depending on the environment and location we are removing waste from, the pathways are different, but we work with our local partners to develop responsible waste management solutions that take into account local realities and contexts. And, in some cases, we are able to create meaningful products that can support our mission, which not only raises awareness of plastic pollution, but also funds the cleanup and challenges perceptions of what 'waste' is.

Ci Liwung (often written as Ciliwung; also as Tjiliwoeng in Dutch, Sundanese: ᮎᮤᮜᮤᮝᮥᮀ) is a 119 km long river in the northwestern region of Java where it flows through two provinces, West Java and the special region of Jakarta. The natural estuary of the Ciliwung river, known as the Kali Besar ("Big River"), was an important strategic point for trade in the precolonial and colonial periods and was instrumental in the founding of the port city of Jakarta, but has been lost from reorganization of the watercourse of the rivers around the area into canals.
