Back to the desert Southwest.

The upside is that the likelyhood of events repeating is low. I am cautiously optimistic.

It appears to be time to research the three largest CA metros. Proximity to warm sand, food, culture (or whatever it is that substitutes for culture in L.A.), employment prospects.

Long way up

Gonna take a look at Denver.

A quick dig suggests that there are some upsides to the place and I hear it's a bit less gritty than in decades past.

Was at an event earlier this week and had all but one of the people who self-identified as transplants to this area confide that they utterly fail to understand the way the locals treat others. Maybe passing out stickers that talk about kindness isn't enough? Because one of the things I've noticed is that the people who identify as local seem quite content to behave aggressively. Escalated and bordering on crisis based thinking is the only modality they appear to posses.

End of the quick looks

We have a region picked out as a primary focus AND a backup. Yes, there's a vagueness to my posts at the moment.

All of the places involved have stronger quality of life metrics than our current location. It's comedic in a "...but I'm Pagliacci." sort of way.

As I dig through things it appears that there's a level of knowledge we've accrued over time. Both of us are able to articulate our own preferences and listen to the preferences being shared.

More than geographic location is the idea of a city's attributes. The landing spot needs levels of art (several kinds, our current place is known for literature but the music is pathetic), literacy, education, diversity, and an authentically expressed sense of community. I'd rather hang out with the people who give grief for 20 minutes while helping me changeva tire than those who spend those 20 minutes engaging in either charmingly polite refusal tyo help or repeatedly stating they will help as a way to placate without actually helping. Don't say "yes" unless you mean it. That list I found, and shared, has been further truncated. Some awareness of physical goegraphy is a part of the search. Now most of the contiguous 48 East of the Continental Divide can be moved out of contention.

I found a list of non-stop flight origins into TUS. I'm going through the list one city per day except for the cities in Texas because neither of us has any interest in living there.
