#ThrowbackThursday #WearYourMask #SpanishFlu in #SanFrancisco 1918 ・・・ "Say! Young Fellow Get a mask or go to jail." ... "Here we go right down to the Bastile [sic]." With the recent mandate to wear face coverings while in public, we are reminded of how the 1918 Flu Epidemic necessitated similar mandates in San Francisco. The first street scene is taken in front of what looks like the Rincon Publishing Co. (689 Stevenson). It shows a police officer wearing a flu mask and pointing to well-dressed man who is maskless. Signs in the windows advertise the flu masks and various war bonds. The second, taken in front of the Ferry Building (#citylandmark no. 90), shows a policeman wearing a flu mask leading two men by their arms. One is not wearing a mask but the other is. A Muni Type B car laying over at the Ferry Loop can be seen behind. Consequences of not wearing a mask?
