TALHow do you sew an art installation big enough to drape a building? This is your chance to find out! This summer, artist Amanda Browder will enliven the façade of Arlington Arts Center (AAC) City of Threads, a colorful fabric installation designed for AAC’s historic building and created in collaboration with members of the community. Since creating her first building-scale sewn construction in 2010, Browder has created more than a dozen large-scale, public works. She invites local volunteers to participate in creating her massive pieces, and hosts public sewing days to stitch them together using donated fabric. Browder's process celebrates community and collaboration, welcoming individuals into the process of making while breaking down the barriers between the public and contemporary art. Join Browder for a morning chat about her process and what led her to creating these monumental installations. After the talk, participants are invited to join Browder in the Hirshhorn’s Third Level Lerner Room to witness and participate in the sewing process. All sewing skill levels are welcome! Dolcezza Coffee and Gelato will open at 8:45 am. Want to be a part of the project? Please help Amanda create this unique work by bringing donations of fabric to one of AAC’s donation sites by May 29, or to this talk. The artist is looking for fabric donations with bright, fluorescent, saturated colors and patterns, in non-stretchy, opaque materials like cotton, rayon and velvet. She requests that all pieces of fabric for donation be one square foot at minimum. About Amanda Browder Amanda Browder (American, b.
