How Do You Share?
Every wonder how you can use your time and energy better while using technology?
This is exactly what Clay Shirky is wanting to get across to the public. Imagine a virtual world where most people’s time and energy on the computer is spent trying to help other’s instead of just posting something to benefit one’s self.
Personally, I relate better to Civic Sharing, which is a group of people putting forth effort to change the world and society. Due to civic sharing it has allowed me to take a trip half way across the country to Ethiopia. Many Ethiopians don’t have access to the Internet let alone laptops or computers. They are in need of aid and resources that we can bring them to help their everyday lives.
I had the opportunity to go with an organization called Athletes In Action who advocate for athletes over in Ethiopia and numerous other countries and get them paired up with athletes in the United States and give them the opportunity to get coached, and have clinics and bring supplies for the people over there. Athletes In Action is paired with over twenty countries and is their voice in hopes of getting athletes to come to their country to teach the American way of sports and bring aid to those countries.
If it weren’t for Athletes in Action’s website and strong social media presence on Twitter and Instagram I would not have heard about this opportunity. Due to civic sharing and the group that went it forever changed my life and I am so grateful.
