This blog entry will be of more of a serious note than the other updates I have posted. This entry will deal with the terror attacks in Bruxelles on 24/3/2016. My first thought is sadness for all of the people who lost their lives or were injured in this senseless act of violence. No person should have to live through this, or be afraid of what might happen to them. Secondly, I feel anger. Anger towards no one in particular, but since I moved here in January, France and the EU has become my second home, and when someone attacks my home I get mad. I have known nothing but gentleness and kindness since I got here and to see people treat that like this just perplexes me. Lastly like everyone else, I feel afraid. I’m not afraid that this will happen to me per se, but rather afraid that I don’t know what will come next. In the words of a wise old green man, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering”. The world we live in is broken and brokenhearted, and I worry what all sides will do, what the repercussions will be. You can already feel it happening in the US elections and here in France with the extremist parties and their rhetoric. I don’t know if the world will ever heal from these past months, or if it will just continue on from there. All I know is that the only thing we can do is to keep on living; not in fear, nor anger, nor hate, but just living.
