I had to laugh when I read this. Is it just me or is this eerily familiar to this beloved piece of "claim chowder"-

“PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.” - Palm CEO Ed Colligan in 2006 after the announcement of the first iPhone.

If, and it's a big if, Apple is truly working on their own car, then I suspect they have researched or are researching EVERY little detail of how that industry works. That's how Apple operates– Research a market, look for how to make it better, figure out how to make it insanely profitable, and then print money like General Garcia in The In-Laws.
