Saw this said of Claire, that people who dislike her are saying why is she under the table at the wedding,but she’s not a part of the Berzatto family? If people do it’s not a common argument I see, or agree with if it is.
People were panning the under the table scene full stop. As being corny, too long, improbable (eg love Marcus/Chester but why are they at the wedding at all never mind under the table lol).
And that it was possibly an attempt (that failed) to redo - the show likes redoing things like character focus episodes or Berzatto episodes, or eclipse the s2 sydcarmy undertable moment.
Yes Claire is seen as part of the extended Berzatto family / a close family friend. The issue is her place in the Berzatto world just seems a little forced and a quick easy set up. To give Carmy a love interest that just slots into his life, who doesn’t even need to be introduced to his family- they all LOVVVE her from back in the day. It’s just too easy.
Like we get it, everyone knows her and loves her- from having various characters shout this constantly, without them particularly showing us why, over the course of several seasons.
Plus in the under table scene she’s again doing the attempted snarky ‘cool girl’ Claire thing of mocking that he’s scared of everything, in front of others at a wedding?- a part of her character a lot of people dislike.
I guess it’s supposed to come off as cool girl sarcastic, to counteract all the Fak etc ‘she’s sooo nice’ hyping, but it just comes off again oddly lacking in empathy about someone she supposedly cares about, who was just tearfully talking to her about his struggles.
Maybe people are saying this, but would disagree. It’s established yes that she’s close to the family. That’s not the issue, it’s more how forced it comes off (the constant ‘WE LOVE CLAIRE!!!!’ ‘She’s sooo nice!!!’ lol) to justify her place in Carmy’s life and as a readymade love interest. It’s just seems inauthentic.
This is though,what I’ve seen quite a few people think may be intentional with Claire. That on paper yes, she seems the perfect love interest- cool, yet engaging, already knows all his family and friends and his troubled life story, so he doesn’t need to explain it all to her. Yet it’s not right for him regardless.
Just because everyone’s saying you should with be someone doesn’t mean you should be. And she’s another tie to his past that he’s trying to move forward from.

You have to understand that orthodox economists are not scientists or scholars. They are the priestly caste of a market society which fills the exact same role as scholastics did in the thirteenth century Latin West. The purpose of the orthodox economists is not to understand the world as it is but instead to produce knowledge which justifies the extant social order. The baseline assumptions of orthodox economics are ahistoric and predicated on the atomistic liberal understanding of the individual as a rational actor. They have no meaningful bearing on reality and are not intended to. They simply need to provide and maintain a structure of justification for the exploitation and domination of the working classes and colonized peoples of the world. Just as scholastics intellectually justified violence in the name of conversion and crusade, so too do the orthodox economists justify violence in the name of capital accumulation.
Fantasy setting where the inherent power of magic is counterbalanced by powerful taboos that hold magic to be “unclean” work. Working with blood or corpses (animal or human) or the sick and dying falls under the same species of taboo because magic is “the blood of the world.” Practitioners of magic are both vital to society and denigrated and devalued for their association with the unclean. They are the objects of intense fear for their (magical) (social) (labour) power and thus also subject an intense shared hatred and disgust that keeps them on the margins of society and shut out of political and economic power. No, there’s no inherent social commentary in this world building, what are you talking about?
