Temperance card symbolizes patience, calmness, search for a harmony and balance in relationships with the world and people, between spiritual, subconscious and material worlds. One of CLAMP characters, who embodies these concepts, in my opinion is the medium girl Kohane Tsuyuri from xxxHOLiC. From the beginning, I wanted to keep composition of the card from Rider Waite deck, but with inclusion of elements representative of the character arc of Kohane, in visual style reminiscent of both the card and colored sprites and covers of the manga. The result looks more like an unintentional parody of original card than anything else, and probably, doesn’t reflect on symbolics of its elements, instead referencing the story of a character depicted. But, I assume, this kind of light humor is quite fitting the spirit of our mangakas.
