Shifty Dragon Initiation
"Why I hesitated in sending you on this task is beyond my knowledge, Mykonos. You would've returned with a sack of apparel at most. While that in itself is quite the heinous purchase, at least it isn't a destructive, hungry mound of scale and flesh."
Near a barren edge of this particular Nature clan's territory sat two dragons, the moonlight's glow reflecting copiously off both their hides. The golden pearlcatcher scoffed at his clanmate's wordy nonsense, giving a dramatic toss of his head. "Indeed. The clan nanny has no business trying to gather the day's trading post's activity." Squinting, Mykonos watched as said "nanny" began to backwing above them, the incredulous strokes beating gusts of wind downward that nearly bowled them over. Once she landed, the ridgeback folded her wings and smirked, celadon silks delicately adorning her membranes even despite the flight. Before she could speak, Abyss dipped her head and placed a dark, pudgy creature down - his belly quite audibly plopping on the dirt before them.
"Was that necessary?" the mirror hissed, standing so he could shake off a layer of dust. "Your pompous behavior has gotten quite out of hand lately. You used to be such a la--"
"Completely necessary" Abyss snapped, curtly cutting Wyk off and casting a firm glance at Mykonos while she was at it. "The purpose of this rendezvous was to gather information to better understand possible future profits, yes? Then let's discuss what I've collected this evening."
Bearings gathered, the clan treasurer sighed deeply. "As you wish. First and foremost - no matter how you intend on wording it - purchasing something was not our intention on this eve, and it is certainly not a burden that our clan has the ability to handle as of now. ...Easily, anyway." Sensing something in that rambling had to do with him, the hatchling turned his attention to Wyk, holding the mirror's gaze with a cool stare. Mykonos, despite not being part of the little guardian's scrutiny, cringed and scooted back, clutching his pearl a bit tighter. Wyk blinked one of his eyes and carried on. "The clan's numbers will reach maximum capacity if this one is brought in. It will start another purge - you know how our Lady has been as of late. Our vaults hold not enough gold to satisfy her."
Although Wyk had went over this a handful of times with other head dragons of the clan, the thought of a new purge rattled his bones. As a mirror, he accepted the laws of nature and survival. But considering his mate had begun hearing the faint whispers of the Gladekeeper attempting to summon her... it became a difficult topic to discuss. Abyss knew this, but still curled a long, protective scythe-of-a-claw around the new-found guardian.
"Your situation is hardly... ideal, brother. I have heard and know the worries you speak of, however, this child may bring change and good beginnings to this clan yet." The obsidian ridgeback kept her visage steady under the judgmental scowl of her clanmates. As long as they were quiet - however temporary that may be - she had their attention. "We've learned before now that vendors of perishable items have gained an increase in sales. This dragon's sire is a fair gardener and has the potential to bring new ideas to our own projects. Also notable is our struggle with the treasury and finances. His dam is known across the continents as an extraordinary accountant - and she could give our gladiators a run for their money as well." A slight flick of her tail followed; a cue Wyk missed. The pearlcatcher, however, understood and flicked his own in response. Abyss spoke of possible threats, perhaps, if events for this hatchling did not go well. A tap of his pearl drew the mirror's attention, and with that, Wyk curled his lip.
"...Very well. I warn that a dragon's lineage means nothing regarding offspring as far as these matters go, but for now, I digress. You are putting this clan on a very delicate scale, and how I hope it begins to tip in our favor." With that, the gem-laden mirror turned, dashing into the wilderness to return to the heart of the clan. Huffing, Mykonos reared and prepared for takeoff, Abyss readying to join him in the sky above.
"Does it have a name, at least?" The gold-caribbean drake did not like the way Abyss' maw curled as she stole another glance down at the hatchling before scooping him into her talons, and he especially grew wary of the odd glint that overtook her usually soft Light eyes.
"Avozrik."
