:0 how’d you make the Zygarde gummies?! They’re so cool!
Hey there! I’m glad you think so, that’s very sweet of you!
Here are the steps to my process:
A) Making the mold
i) Making a clay sculpt of a Zygarde cell
ii) Using the sculpt to create a series of molds with Silicone Plastique, a food grade silicone
The sculpt lost its little pupil after a while so not all of my molds have it. These molds are reusable, so I don’t have to make them again each time.
B) Making the gummies
i) I created my gummy mixture based on this recipe. When I needed a scoop, I reheated the mixture just a bit so it would melt back down, either on the stovetop or for a few seconds in the microwave. It’s important not to leave the mixture in the heat for very long as this will cause the gelatin to denature, which prevents the gummies from turning solid.
ii) I spooned the mixture into my molds and put them in the fridge for about 20 minutes to help them set faster and come out of the mold more easily. Repeat this step as necessary.
iii) For the cores, I created a separate gummy mixture made of unflavored gelatin, light corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk (to make it opaque), lemon juice, and either red or blue food coloring. I then used a small spoon and a toothpick to fill in the « nucleus » on their back with this mixture.
iv) After my gummies were dried to the consistency I wanted, which took about a day, I used a little food-safe brush to brush a mixture of corn starch and powdered sugar onto each gummy. This prevents them from sticking to things and to each other.
After that, I kept them in the fridge until I was ready to package them!
