The 1849-53 section by James Blackburn is on the right (you can’t see the lovely tower); on the left is Walter Butler’s 1903 extension (a compromise instead of rebuilding the whole house). The church has tried to subdivide the garden many times but unsuccessfully as it’s significant in its own right; apparently inside the house is very modest. At last life! in the wonderful Valletta House #ClarendonSt #EastMelbourne. Built in 1856 (with some alterations 1859 & 1862), designed by Osgood Pritchard in rare (surviving) Regency Palladian style. It was Sir Redmond Barry’s home when he tried Ned Kelly (Barry died at home soon after). Clarendon Towers is by far the best tall building overlooking the #FitzroyGardens. It’s 1973 High Modernist frame is beautifully proportioned, unlike its more recent copycat neighbours along #ClarendonSt #EastMelbourne (at Fitzroy Gardens)
