okay so I just noticed this
this is the exact same outfit right
said to be the exact same dress
like it’s the same scene, but the first one was the end of season 1, the second one was the beginning of season 2
like look, you can even see her skin, there’s no white fabric underneath that dress around the sleeves
but then what’s with the sudden white on the sleeves and the ribbons
that just appeared out of nowhere in the same scene
liiike I understand the second picture was more the style of that time period
but why wasn’t the first picture also like the second one
how did her dress magically change
(i mean I know how it did actually, someone fucked up on their continuity in the costume department)
but in canon, how is it that white suddenly bursts from her sleeves and is tied neatly with ribbons as they’re outrunning assassins
maybe da vinci’s demons costume department lost the dress they used in the cliffhanger of season 1 and so they had to quickly remake a new one and they came out with this dress that makes it look like clarice magically changed clothes while trying to save herself and her kids from being murdered
also something I just noticed, she actually wears THREE. DIFFERENT DRESSES. NOT JUST TWO. this change happens in the same scene, in the same season even
This is all in the same scene, so why does her dress change from having plain sleeves , to having sleeves with the shoulder revealed and white poofs, then to sleeves that cover her whole arm again with even bigger poofs on the sleeves. why???? wtf costume department

Piero sits at Lorenzo’s desk, uncomfortable as Clarice dictates a letter with clear resolve.
CLARICE
Bona of Savoy. The Duchess of Milan.
(then; dictating)
My Most Illustrious Lady -- Our beloved Giuliano, has been slain and my city is under siege by forces who seek to undermine our alliance. I ask for your fidelity in Florence’s time of need. Send as many men as you can with all speed, as you are, always, the shield of my state and the guarantee of her health. Your servant, Lorenzo de’ Medici.
With this, Piero ceases writing, placing the pen down.
PIERO
My lady, this is forgery.
CLARICE
Is it? How can that be when I witnessed Lorenzo dictate these words to you in this very room?
PIERO
That is a lie, an illegal act, and a sin before God.
CLARICE
It’s fallen on me to ensure the survival of the Medici family. No matter the cost. Our allies will disintegrate and our bank shall be looted by the very men we employ to manage it unless we make it clear that my husband is alive.
PIERO
He’s dead, Signora.
CLARICE
Where is his corpse? Show it to me if he is dead.
(with finality)
Until I see Lorenzo’s body, you and I will keep writing letters until our fingertips run red with blood.
Piero nods and reluctantly continues writing.

And there was another line earlier, where she tells the Commander of the Militia that “None of us can rest” when telling him to search for her husband. As thought in my previous headcanons, even though everyone else thought that Lorenzo was dead, Clarice refused to believe it, and with a heavy heart, she was willing to do whatever was best for Florence, stepping into the role of leadership without hesitation, which included not giving up on her husband.

I think the change of Clarice’s outfits is not only Da Vinci’s Demons showing that Italy has gone from Summer to Winter, how she goes from wearing very thin dresses with little to no sleeves to thicker, long sleeved garments, but is also a statement of how different Clarice is in season 2. She’s more guarded now, with much thicker skin, and walls up due to so many betraying her. Apart from that, she goes from being more light-hearted and youthful, wearing soft blues, light golds, whites, to older, more refined, but harsher and more of an authority. Her color palate drastically changes to shades of red, brown, black, darker golds. Even her nightdress we saw twice in season 1 changes from bright white to dark black. In season 1, she always wears large pieces of vibrant jewelry that signify her youthful spirit; a necklace of large golden flowers with blue pearls, a golden fish pendant with a sapphire eye, a necklace with large white and gold crystals. In season 2, she wears significantly less jewelry, sometimes not wearing any, but when she does, it’s always something light and small, like a pendant on a chain or minuscule, simplistic earrings unlike some of the giant ones that were in many different shapes like flowers and fans she wore in season 1. She’s matured, grown, but she has also hardened and darkened, and her loss of bright color shows that.
