Compared to the way the Medicis lived, Clarice’s lifestyle could be considered militaristic. Rigorous schedules and very little time to rest and relax. Beatrice felt like she had been a hedonist all her life with the relaxed way things were done in Florence. But they each knew nothing else but their respective lifestyles, so surely neither of them could be blamed for it? “I can see why your new life might take some getting used to,” Beatrice said, smiling a little. “But you don’t need to sacrifice everything about your old life to adapt to your new one.”
One day, Clarice would be the matriarch of the Medici family. If she wanted the rest of her family to adopt a semi-religious lifestyle, she could. She could teach her children what she had learned as a girl, whether it be skills needed to be a good spouse or a strategic fighter. “Whatever changes you choose to make, sister, I shall support you.” That was what family did, after all. They understood and accepted each other, and if they thought that someone was going astray, they did their best to pull them back into the fold.
“For now, let’s find the perfect mask for you.” She wrapped her fingers around Clarice’s wrist to gently pull her along, though she did let go once they exited the room. Lorenzo’s study was several flights down, but she walked slowly to help Clarice remember what route they took to reach it. This wouldn’t be the last time she would need to find her way to her husband’s study, and Beatrice might not always be there to show her where things were. After knocking lightly on the door, she opened it when she heard her brother bade them to enter.
The room had a high-ceiling, and three of the four walls were covered with bookshelves. Lorenzo’s desk was on the very end of the room, and he could be seen sitting behind it, papers still in his hands. The moment his wife and his sister arrived, however, he dropped them and rose, concern and confusion evident. “Is everything alright?”
It was a nice change of pace to feel such support by one of her new family members. It was the sort of support Clarice longed for upon her arrival, but instead received uncertainty at best, and coldness at worst.
“I thank you for that. It’s a relief to hear your kind words.” she beamed.
As they walked, she also considered Beatrice’s advice. There were definite things she didn’t want to sacrifice; her faith was so embedded into her. Granted, she would try to keep an open mind as she wanted to adjust well to her new family. As for the other things, Clarice felt shamefully excited about. Such freedoms she had never experienced --she was looking forward to it, even if a part of her felt like she was possibly engaging in sinful behavior.
She took note of her surroundings, trying to commit the path to memory as she wanted to know how to find her way here if needed. Clarice felt comfortable asking Beatrice to show her, but if her sister-in-law wasn’t there she didn’t quite feel comfortable bothering anyone else yet.
At Lorenzo’s concern tone when they walked in, a small smile appeared on Clarice’s lips.
“Yes, everything is fine.” she assured. “Beatrice has offered to help me find a mask for Carnivale. It will be my first, so I’m not sure of what makes for good attire yet.”
maestrodarte:
“it would likely be in your best interest to remain as far away from the labyrinth as possible, my lady.” indeed, leonardo harbored no love for the sons of mithras, but fear was something he had not felt for any other organisation (the church aside of course) until the labyrinth entered the picture. carlo had burned his home around him, nearly bled him out on his workshop floor, and declared his loyalty to the labyrinth. “carlo is indeed involved but– -” he is not sure how much she wants to know. the artist purses his lips for a moment before leaning forward to rest a hand on her arm, taking a moment to study her.
she said she is fine. but leonardo often says much the same but isn’t. still, he doesn’t press. instead he nods his understanding. “i am not sure how well known you want your presence to be here, but i am more than willing to keep your secret. however. we need to dispose of this particular body. the labyrinth will likely be looking for him, if he is a part of their… brotherhood.” leonardo has no doubt that he is. the odd feeling like there are eyes everywhere settles firmly on the back of his neck and makes the hair there stand on edge.
he knows he shouldn’t get distracted. he is here, in rome, to receive funding, to complete his new designs, to win this war. he’ll lie to himself and say it’s to save italy. but he knows there’s a sick part of him that just wants to prove to himself and to the rest of the world that none can top him. not even himself. he can reinvent and top even himself. he blinks hard for a moment and pulls back, unsure now what to do with his hands, so his fingers flutter beside him silently as he assesses the damage to the body. in an ideal world, leonardo would have an opportunity to cut the man open and study his insides. but he doesn’t have the time. and he is certain that clarice would like to have her room back. “i know a place. we can dump him. but we will have to wait for nightfall. i can make an excuse to remove myself from the vatican and return here to assist you. for now i’ll dispose of him in a cupboard so you don’t have to look at him… or we can get you a new room…”
“He hurt both of us, Leonardo.” Clarice reminded him. “He took from us. Ruined us in some ways. I say this not to compare my situation to yours, but to say that I lust for his blood as you do. If I have to go through the Labyrinth to bring him to his end, so be it. I want to watch him writhe in agony for what he’s done to us, to others.”
Such words she never thought she would utter. She had never felt so betrayed, so angry in her life. Not even with Lorenzo, at least with him she knew that he could be unfaithful, manipulative, and a liar, but she knew these things and she also knew that despite everything, he still loved her. She had been completely blindsided by Carlo, deceived in a way she had never experienced.
“I’ll go to a new room. Also... perhaps we should work together. You’re helping me with this. In return I can help you with whatever business you have with the Vatican and then we can bring Carlo down together.”

“Extravagant. Then…you have not seen the dresses we have for formal events.” Clarice’s unfamiliarity with luxury might have made anyone stop and think whether she was a good match for a Medici, especially the oldest son. But Beatrice knew that it was a person’s heart, spirit, and morals that should determine their worth, not whether they were used to finery or not. “No matter. Consider that to be another surprise my mother has in store for you.
She laughed softly at Clarice’s suggestion, having matched several dresses with certain accessories, as if helping her sister-in-law with her future outfits. “And I was going to ask if you would join me. I know of a place in the city where we can get them, but we would have to inform my brother first.” She glanced over at one of the ladies waiting on them and asked her to inquire whether Lorenzo was free to see them for a few moments or not.
While she waited, she sat down, this time beside Clarice. “You have seen my home. Now, would you tell me of yours?”
That was another thing Clarice found strange. She had done everything on her own growing up, apart from when she was a child. Here, servants followed and did everything for her without even asking. She would wake up and a lady would be there to help her get dressed and do her hair. At first, she dismissed her, but then later on that day, Madonna Lucrezia approached her to explain why there were servants to help her. It wasn’t about capability, it was about respect.
‘One receives as much respect as one demands’ she had told Clarice. It would take time to adjust to the feel of having servants wait on her, but the Medici matriarch claimed it was necessary.
“My home was very different than this one. It was a plain household. A small manor, a wide field outside, five horses in our stable. We only had a few servants; two who did cleaning, cooking, general household tasks. One who managed the stables and took care of the horses. There was also one guard, who now that I think of it really was more of one of my father’s soldiers than a servant. My father is well known for his military prowess. He was often away training his armies, though sometimes I was allowed to watch.”
It was definitely useful, she thought anyway. It taught her a great deal of military tactics that most women weren’t taught.
“My home was very structured as well, hence why I find myself at a loss of what to do with my free time here. Every morning my mother and I would begin with an hour of psalms and prayer after breakfast, if it was Sunday we would attend mass, after that I would have lessons, a mix of academic studies, bible studies, as well as learning skills to impress suitors. Most of the day was spent on this, and after would be another hour of prayer, followed by dinner and then we would go to bed.”
iilvecchio:
HIS FACE LIGHTS UP WHEN HE SEE’S HIS MOTHER ; he is an engaging child , always constantly wanting to learn and know more things but his mind wanders too - there is so much to learn , so much of this world he doesn’t know. HE WANTS TO KNOW MORE - yearns for more. “They are coming along well.” HE PROMISES HER & his tutors will tell her the same too. Giovanni when he’s paying attention excels at many things because of his curiosity of the world. “I am tired now though Mama….may we do something else? can we visit Sandro?” HIS TONE IS HOPEFUL ; his mind now on art and the man who was like an Uncle to him , the man who had recently taught him how to mix paint.
It had taken a lot of time trying to have an open mind, but after a while of living in Florence, art grew on her. She learned to appreciate it’s beauty, even if she didn’t understand completely. It was clear that while Giovanni took after his mother in most aspects, he took after his father with his fierce love of the arts.
He was such a good child, she struggled to say no to him at times. For the most part, she was a strict parent, but not in an aggressive or mean spirited way; she simply wanted her children to have what she considered good morals and good work ethic.
“Convince me.” Clarice decided. “Show me what you’ve accomplished today and I’ll decide.”
She knew this would be a treat for him, and as soft-hearted as she was when it came to Giovanni, she still wanted to make sure it was earned.
noah fence but rpc should really get back to actually supporting each other ooc. people used to always like/reblog mutuals’ edits, respond to headcanon posts and ooc posts. engagement has gotten worse and worse and then people complain about feeling distant when they aren’t putting in effort to reach out to others. it takes a second to like someone’s headcanon (or respond to it with a comment if you’re worried about clogging likes). it feels so shitty to be trying to make lore posts and share ideas and get crickets back. it isn’t even like talking to an empty room. it’s like talking to a room filled with your friends but none of them even acknowledge that you’re talking to them. we all could put in a little more effort to make each other feel seen and supported ooc. there’s a certain stagnant feeling in the rpc and it really stems from how bad we’ve gotten at communicating and interacting out of character.
@musenssang this gives me juan vibes

is it just me or has tumblr killed some tags? I’ve noticed with the personification rp tag, it has no posts for some reason, even though it was full before this update and in the search if you search “personification rp”, you see tons of post that are tagged with it. “indie historical rp” is also missing posts, because I know there are people who posted promos with this tag and they’re not there. has anyone else noticed any tags missing posts or now entirely empty all together? (edit) apparently with personification rp it shows posts if you specifically type it in as personification-rp, but it says it hasn’t been updated in 57 days which I kNoW is wrong because my promo for athornedrose was there before and now it’s gone
(edit edit) yes I just posted a new version of my promo for athornedrose and it did not show up in the personification rp tag for some fucking reason??? idk man

“Wonderful. I believe my brother would be melancholy if you did.” Whether love was in the future for Lorenzo and Clarice, it was too soon to tell. But she wished that they would be amiable friends at the very least; an unhappy marriage was probably the worst thing anyone could bear witness to and experience.
Beatrice stood up and headed over to the generous pile of dresses and jewelries and shoes that her mother had brought. Lucrezia Tornabuoni was a patron of the arts, and she knew the importance of feeling and looking good. No member of her family would look sloppy as long as she was around. Eventually, her children, her husband, and her in-laws adopted it into a habit, so the entire Medici clan looked their very best whether in public or in private. It was another thing that Clarice would have to get used to.
“It is indeed,” Beatrice confirmed, and she picked out a light blue shawl and draped it over one the yellow dress on the bed. “We must find you a mask, if you have yet to get one.”
It seemed all of the Medici family had a penchant for dressing very well. Not Lorenzo and their mother. Guiliano, even herself, were given very expensive, decadent clothing to wear.
“Your gown is very nice.” she commented. “All the clothes here are. My family and I always were dressed in very... well compared to yours, I would say boring clothing. The dress I’m wearing now is probably the most extravagant thing I’ve ever worn.” And it was supposedly a simple “everyday” dress by Florentine standards. She saw a few dresses in her new wardrobe that had jewel adornments.
“Well, perhaps that’s something we could do today.” Clarice suggested. “I have no idea what would be considered a good mask, so I’ll need your advice.”
