The first time she’d gone into Gallifrey’s past was with Theta, because of course it was. The two of them slipped into an unlocked TT Capsule one night, probably not as sober as they could have been. Off they were, in search of proof of the ancient Old Ones myths. They expected to find nothing, but were unsettled to find warnings. Or Theta was, anyway. Frightened, even. Koschei finds herself drawn. He doesn’t know, but she’s been back now; a number of times. 

She’s in the forest, on her way towards a particularly ominous cave when she realizes she’s not alone. It’s just one look to confirm his identity. He’s like a million years old, but it’s still so clearly him.

“I just knew you’d be bad at this.”

Well, someone screwed up somewhere. The Master knew that much as soon as his timeline started destabilizing. Some-when out there, one of his past incarnations went and managed to get themselves dropped, so to speak. Perhaps an unlikely hunch, considering who exactly he is, but something nags at him and he knows he isn’t off the mark.

Fixing it before ending up blinked out of time is his only concern now. Piecing together how exactly that’s to be achieved is still a work in progress. Finding out when it went wrong is a logical enough first step.

When his ship ultimately leads him to a planet where he finds the Doctor, well. He’s not exactly surprised, but he is exactly less than thrilled. Far younger than he is, this one, but what’s there to be done about it?

“When did you see me last?” Straight to the point, so he can be done with her already.
