One Punch Man
The new sensation that’s sweeping the nation. I believe One Punch Man started as a webcomic before it was made into a manga and then an anime.
Saitama is a hero in his spare time. He is also, by a startlingly massive degree, the most powerful person on the planet in a world where superheroes are the name of the game.
But he has no powers. What’s the secret to his success? 100 pushups a day, 100 situps a day and a 10 kilometer run every day. And three square meals a day. And no air conditioner during the summer and no heater during the winter. Thanks to this training regimen that he maintained for three straight years, he’s able to pull off feats that would make Superman proud.
As the title may suggest, he’s so incredibly powerful that he has never met an enemy, be it a mutant cyborg lion thing or a giant the size of a skyscraper, that he could not defeat with one punch.
I’ve been watching the dubbed anime. The show is kinda eh. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, of course. I like it a lot, it’s great and all but one kinda gets the impression that the OPM world is more interesting than Caped Baldy himself.
I’m particularly enamored with the character of Mumen Rider. An ordinary guy with nothing but a bike to his name, he nonetheless goes out of his way to help people whenever possible, which makes him the top ranked hero in Class C (the lowest class).
So dedicated is he to helping people and saving lives that he’ll go mano e mano with a guy that just took a big smelly shit on an up-and-coming S-ranked (the highest rank) hero Genos. No vain fool who believes himself all-powerful is Mumen Rider. He challenges the bad guy because it’s the right thing to do, not because he thinks he can actually win. I like characters like him because they are so plainly incapable of existing in the real world.
I do love that intro song though!
