I have felt the swooning highs of independence,

of dressing elegantly when others won’t see

and of dancing to music in front of a mirror,

but I have also felt the desperate lows of loneliness,

of rivers flowing from my eyes,

yet water still lodged in my chest.

We humans are connected,

not by love and happiness,

but by heartbreak and pain,

by these somber eras,

by the fullness and the emptiness,

and by the sorrow that flows so freely through each of our veins.
