Cloud Strife
The last person you would go to for advice on how to handle stress is Cloud Strife. For the most part, he’s an expert at hiding his emotions from others. You have to be a true friend of his to be able to pick up on his subtle changes in behavior and equate them to stress or anxiety.
However he is also a master of simply shoving his unpleasant thoughts and feelings into the back of his mind and only dealing with them when he’s left with no other choice.
Just because Cloud isn’t someone that’s good with these sorts of things doesn’t mean he won’t do his best to console you when you’ve had a particularly rough day or week.
Cloud prefers to be honest and reasonable when he’s trying to lighten up your mood. He hates vague and idealistic sayings like ‘things will get better’ or ‘the sun always shines after the storm’. He’ll tell you that yeah, things really do suck right now, and it’s okay to be frustrated and angry about it.
He’s one of the few people to tell you that you should just let yourself feel all those things and get all the stress out of your system. You’ll feel a little bit lighter with less baggage to carry on your shoulders.
However, when you’re really at your wits end and you’re so frustrated by all the worries festering in your mind, Cloud’s right beside you holding you tight in his arms. Every sob that leaves your mouth pierces his heart. He wishes he was better at comforting people, but he also knows that some of the best comfort is just being in a loved one’s presence, reminding them that they are never truly alone.
Reno
Reno can read you like the back of his hand, so he knows when something’s off with you. Don’t try to lie to him about it, either. He’s going to get you to tell him what’s wrong no matter what angle you use to dodge his questions.
You and Reno have clicked from day one since you match his fun-loving nature so well. When you’re down in the dumps and unlike your usual bubbly self, it’s hard for Reno to watch. Not just anything gets you down so easily.
His first plan of action is to ask if you want to go out on the town and grab some food, maybe even a drink. He’ll think of your favorite places and offer to take you there. If you’ve got a hobby you’re into, he’ll try to persuade you to spend some time investing yourself into it.
Reno will literally go above and beyond for you. Want to get your mind off the stress with a new wardrobe? He’s going to buy you the most jaw-dropping dress the shops in Wall Market have to offer. Want to look out over Midgar on a helicopter ride? He’s the perfect person to pilot it for you (and to take responsibility for using Shinra’s equipment without permission)!
If you’d rather just stay at home and get some rest, Reno’s fine with that, too. He’s focused on what you feel like doing. Whatever you want, he’s happy to provide it for you.
If all you need is a good cuddle session, Reno won’t complain. He’ll press you tight against his chest, placing sweet kisses to your temples. You put up with all of his unpredictable behavior and tendencies to get in trouble, so he wants to show his gratitude to you. You’re always worrying about everyone else more than yourself. Now it’s your turn to be pampered and loved just like you deserve to be.
