Originally I called these clay pages. They are bisque clay with raw clays applied like a monoprint. The current series began at @starworksceramics during my residency. I made wild clay slabs out of okeweeme and bisqued them and then applied raw clays with contrasting colors reflecting the local landscape. As I have continued to work on this series back in Virginia I have begun to think of them as the geography of hope. In my mud red mind I crush found materials, working in the sensory rich place of dirty hands. I dream of all the ways clay can be transformed. As a potter I am a seeker of material chasing ochre veins as I plant trees or drool over maroon shale on my way to the dump. My nervous system resets with the earth tones of a clay palette. So I keep collecting and testing clay and sand, crushing and sifting , mixing it with water, drying , painting , forming and firing to find new answers... always scratching the constant itch of the love of the earth. #wildmaterials #minimallyprocessedclay #northcarolinaclay #starworksclay #claypages #claypaintings #geographyofhope
