Out of this world?
A theme that definitely became apparent and that i explored in the the unusual landscape of the china clay pits was space or other planets. Looking at artists such as Thomas Ruff and NASA's photo's archive's, i felt i could relate my work and that there was some familiar themes occurring especially in surface and the uncertainty of scale.
The Landscapes feel so unworldly, so different that i thought the idea of exploring a new planet or documenting surface and resources of 'the planet' could be another potential theme for my project.
I looked into 'Project One' - a mission of mars where selected people will be sent to space to live and you can watch them on TV (this will form the funding) as they attempt to inhabit the planet, carrying out missions and so on. Personally i am unsure about the reality of this project, rather I am uncertain if it is possible but the concept inspired me to look at the landscape I was exploring differently.. tried to think of it as if it was a new home and i could never return to earth.. what would i notice or be looking for?

In some way this relates to my previous post because this was the shoot following after the research. It was possibly one of my favorite shoots because of the access i was able to get, i could start looking at a different type of detail, it was much bolder and alien. This is just a rough scan and i do need to work on the colours and dust marks. As much as i am excited about the photographs from this shoot i am also concerned about how they will fit with the other photographs which make up this body of work, the others have been much more distant and isolated, they feel cooler and quiet, therefore this type of photograph could be a issue.
