The #1 request I get asked about daily is “which clean deodorants actually WORK?!?!” Why should you care what’s in yours? . 👉🏻 First of all, it’s important to recognize the difference between deodorants and anti-perspirants. Deodorant is made to curb (or cover) odor while anti-perspirant is made to literally stop you from sweating. . 👉🏻 Most anti-perspirants use aluminum to reduce wetness by blocking the sweat glands. Aside from concerns over whether aluminum is harmful (there are many studies connecting aluminum absorption to higher frequencies of breast cancer and Alzheimer’s) there’s the obvious issue of blocking a natural (and important) body function. Generally not a good idea. . 👉🏻 But whether it’s deodorant or anti-perspiriant, most conventional products contain “fragrance” or “parfum”. The formulas that make up this single ingredient can include proprietary combinations thousands of harmful chemicals that don’t need to be disclosed to consumers. EVER. . 👉🏻 Phthalates are a particular class of chemicals that have been linked to an assortment of health issues including hormone disruption, birth defects, and asthma. And yet, we can’t find out if these chemicals are in our products even if we ask. WTAF?!?! 🤬 . 👉🏻 Fortunately, there are conscious companies out there making safer substitutes so we don’t have to stink to be clean. . 👉🏻 My current favorite deodorant from @humblebrands has been working consistently for the past few weeks since I met them at @indiebeautyexpo which is WAY longer than any other deodorant has worked for me so far on this journey! It comes in several different scents and an unscented option.
