Germany to legalize Cannabis for personal use
Berlin (The Times Groupe) – The German government announced on Wednesday that it would allow adults to possess up to 25 grams of cannabis (also known as Marijuana among other names) for personal consumption.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach announced at a news conference in Berlin that the new legislation at a press conference in Berlin.
“The previous cannabis policy failed,” Lauterbach said, adding that prohibition did not restrict use and actually gave criminal groups an advantage.
“Our new policy is about the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults within clear limits,” he said.
Those aged 18 and older will be allowed to possess up to 25 grams of cannabis under the government’s blueprint.
Self-cultivation of up to three plants for personal consumption will also be permitted.
Cannabis will be allowed to be grown and distributed by non-profit associations with a maximum of 500 members.

A center-left liberal coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to submit legislative changes to parliament for approval in the coming weeks.
