CLEARBROOK RP | ADVENT CALENDER | 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE
LIFE - CHANGING EVENT | A HEART TO HEART TALK
"And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time."
Christina's uncle pulled her aside after her parents' funeral. He glanced back at the other family members, friends, and employees who passed them as they headed for the cars. They started making their way to the reception, but Aron Laurent kept his niece by one of the trees in the family plot. He grabbed Christina by the shoulders and stared into her eyes.
ARON: Anything! You can do anything you want. Hell, Christina, you can be anything you want.
CHRISTINA: What do you mean?
ARON: You're free, Christina. You don't have to lead the family business if you don't want to. You-You can work for the CIA or become a computer hacker, which I do not support since I am a cop, but you could do it.
CHRISTINA: I don't know how. I don't know how to do anything that I want to do. I don't have orders.
ARON: Exactly! You make the orders now. You are technically the leader of the Laurent family right now. If you want to leave, you can pass on the power. If you want to stay, that's fine too.
CHRISTINA: I can't make this decision.
ARON: I have seen you in all sorts of situations and you can make those decisions in a split second. I've worked with cops who can't make those sorts of decisions as quickly as you can.
CHRISTINA: Yeah, in fights and situations with extreme pressure. But, this, this is the rest of my life we're talking about.
ARON: Just do it. Trust me.
CHRISTINA: Fine. [she closes her eyes.]
ARON: Alright. Now just take a deep breath. Remember, your intuition has never let you down. Trust your instincts. Reach deep down inside of yourself and think about the decision you want to make. Trust your instincts and trust your heart. And trust me when I say that you can do absolutely anything and I know you will do what you want, not what you have to do.
CHRISTINA: ....I know what I'm going to do....
Ever since her parents died, Christina had been badgered with questions about the family business. Everyone asked her what she was going to do now that she had the power. They asked her how she felt about her parents dying in such a tragic fire. They put so much pressure on Christina, but after her uncle talked to her, everything changed.
Christina started to realize that she could do anything she wanted. She didn't have to do what people told her she had to do. Her uncle had only just begun changing her life.
