Returning to Cleeve Hill....
.....on Boxing day. I had to get out again! To be a stone’s throw from such great mountain-biking was too great a temptation. This time, however, I resolved to find another way up the hill avoiding the busy road up to the RIsing Sun. What followed was some seriously steep climbing on a bridleway which cut it’s way directly up the hill! Whilst it was still following an greasy farm track all was well. Hunched over my handlebars I winched myself up the slippery lane until I hit ‘the gulley.’ (I’ve vague memories of riding down this a long time ago) If the conditions had been dry I would have had a good stab at riding this next section. Instead it was slimy and loose and so a mile of hike-a-bike was now on the menu! I did manage to ride the final bits of this trail and soon hit the Cotswold Way at the top. Following the bridleway North I was blessed with some great descents on fine trails until...... ....the climbing started again! This time, though, it wasn’t so bad; nice open single track trail with good traction and great views; soon enough I was at the top by the radio masts. Now the real fun could start! Swooping downhill on the gallops and then along the edge of the hill all the way to the golf club. From here the trail continued to drop down to the sheep dip pond. Next I followed the steep climb up the valley to the radio masts. This time, though, the climb felt a whole lot easier and I only had to walk one tiny section. Getting off the hill was the next challenge. I had to find the mystery bridleway back down to Mill Lane. There was only one option open to me and so I took it not sure of where I would end up! The good news was that the single track descended generally in the right direction and after a ‘moment’ with a bramble bush I popped out on..... ....Mill Lane and the way home.
Nice bit of sun and views this afternoon on top of Cleeve Hill . #cheltenham #CleeveHill #risingsunhotel (at Rising Sun Hotel, Cheltenham) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpp376_l7g1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=s914k5tfgqol
