Cleft Lip and Palate Deformity This little girl was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate deformity along with anophthalmos of the left eye. Cleft lip surgery was performed at the age of 3 months by Dr SM Balaji. The floor of the nose and the nasal sill were first reconstructed with a C flap. This was followed by reconstruction of the vermillion border. A three layer closure followed with optimal approximation of orbicularis oris, subcutaneous tissue and skin. This was done using a surgical loupe for magnification. Cleft Lip and Palate Deformity This little boy was born with a left-sided cleft lip and palate deformity. He undergone cleft lip repair at the age of 6-1/2 months in our hospital. A C-flap was first raised to reconstruct the floor of the nose and the nasal sill. The vermillion border was then reconstructed. A three layer closure of the cleft deformity was performed with perfect approximation of the orbicularis oris, subcutaneous tissue and skin. Cleft Lip and Alveolus Deformity This baby girl was born with a left-sided cleft lip and alveolus deformity. Parents brought her to our hospital for corrective surgery. She underwent cleft lip repair at 3-1/2 months of age. She underwent reconstruction of the floor of the left nasal cavity with recreation of the nasal sill utilizing a C-flap. A three-layer closure of the cleft lip was then performed with perfect approximation of the orbicularis oris, subcutaneous tissue and skin under magnification of a surgical loupe. Isolated Cleft Palate Closure with Wardill-Kilner Technique This child was born with an isolated cleft palate deformity. Cleft palate repair was performed at 9-1/2 months of age. The Wardill-Kilner palatal pushback technique was used to surgically repair this. Using Delaire’s principle, the abnormal attachment of the levator palati and tensor palati were detached and a hammock was form with the muscle fibers. This recreated normal palatal structure. There was also perfect recreation of the uvula. There was no evidence of the previous hypernasality following surgery.
