I have been an advocate and user of linux systems for ten years. Linux has always been more stable and provided a better experience for me than its more popular corporate counterparts. Open source software allows for a fantastic development ecosystem, that allows you to treat software more as infrastructure than a product.
I recently downloaded Clementine music player to try as a replacement for Amarok, which has managed to just slow everything down, lately. Clementine is modeled after Amarok, and has even more features. It looks better, and it seems way leaner. It reads various file formats and lets you export in various formats. An Android app is available that acts as a remote control for the player, too. This is great.
Amarok had trouble staying quick while searching external USB and network devices. I haven't tried that with Clementine yet, but I'm very happy with it so far.
It's multiplatform, so it's available for Windows, too. This isn't just a good music player for linux; it's my favorite music player, overall. Linux software is great because it's created with no profit motives, so it only does what you want it to, and nothing more. That sounds good to me. If that sounds good to you, too, try the Windows or Mac download at the link.
