“you look really pretty,” cleo told her friend nervously. how they had gotten here, she didn’t know, but she also knew she had very little control of what bullshit she spouted half the time. she had been like that as a teen and it had never gone away.

cleo was glad to see someone familiar to her here, because in truth, she was feeling very nervous about being here. it just felt like a lot could go wrong, a lot of drinks spilled, for instance. “hey, rikki,” she said brightly, “always weird to see you dressed formally,” she teased with a grin.
